Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

The willow is too close to the house.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

We still have time to mess this up!

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

This blog will pay for itself.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Bark louder, little dog.

Alright losers. I reactivated warcrack for a month and transferred a 70 alt to horde side to Eitrigg.

Put your names in the comments so I know who to get in touch with.

While not Tunch, I’m particularly happy with this picture I took on Sunday at an adoption event. I had to lie down on the floor of a pet store, but as far as pet stores go, it was fairly clean.

For those who want to get a glimpse into the wild world of WoW, Netflix Instant is now streaming a documentary about WoW players called Second Skin. It was cringeworthy for me, as I’ve lost friends to MMORPGs.

Huh. Google seems to think that’s English.

But if you tell it the source is French, you get this output:

I reactivated warcrack for a month and transferred to a 70 alt horde side to Vek’nilash.

So I guess “Vek’nilash” is English for the French word “Eitrigg.”

I too have seen people go mad over video games – like scary mad, and it’s MMORPGs that do it. I don’t avoid them because I don’t like them; I avoid them because I’m afraid I would.

I am watching Countdown with the piece about the woman in Ohio who has leukemia, after watching Rachel Maddow with JD Hayworth who had his stomach bypass surgery done under that awful public option that Congress has. I’m begging somebody, anybody, please tell me how I can stop getting served that standard Blogads “Gruesome Video Footage” ad that I believe is about slaughterhouse practices. I’m naught but a lowly lurker and I swear I usually click on as many BJ ads as I possibly can, but this one…I can’t. I just can’t do it. I am afraid I will accidentally mouseover and open it somehow and be subjected to horrors that will haunt my dreams. I’ll click on anything else. I’ll buy swag. I’ll paypal you the value of the click. Just please, please tell me how to make it go away.

Well all the rites are finished and I’m heading back to Obama’land tonight. It was a good time if you can say such things when going to a funeral. We had a post mortem of what all happened and I was surprised that my grandfather suffered 3 heart attacks and was revived each time except for the last. That’s one tough bastard. Being revived from a second heart attack as I understand for his age was really slim. He tried his best.

Speaking of religion from the last thread, I thought the process of rejecting the spirit so it wouldn’t hang around but leave to be kind of sad and tough. But we venerated him so he would come back and see that we were all happy. There was a smoky (burnt offerings.. we’d be breaking a lot of fire codes if this was at home) final ceremony and a lunch for everyone at the end. Food is an important part of Hinduism for some reason.

Lastly, in the old days these rituals tend to be anti-women in the sense that they didn’t allow women to attend certain functions etc. Plus the widow was supposed to wear white, shave her head, etc. The religion has revised all that and my grandmother still wears the artifacts of her marriage. Even if it wasn’t, there was no fucking way we would allow her to be any different than she was. In general though, hinduism is greatly affected by the society at large, if society changes the ritual changes. Right now, the death ritual is 12 days representing each month as it it takes 12 months for the spirit to finally leave. That kind of stuff is going to get more compressed as things go one. It’s a great thing to see a religion leave the trappings of the past behind and try to stay relevant because the priests have decided that they need to do that. (there is no head of the religion per se)

I have one final post to make later, and that is in regards to a dog that had adopted us several years ago. We gave him a wash yesterday after like 6 months. He stays outside, so he was riddled with ticks and fleas. It was really sad. There is a lady who used to come everyday to feed all the neighborhood dogs and cats, also was heading a project to get them all sterilized so they wouldn’t breed more unwanted animals. At some point, I’d like to write something about ‘brownie’ our dog. I’ll post a picture. He is so adorable.

@Martin: oh I gotcha. Yeah, that’s true. Starting with Morning Ho in the a.m. Maddow has been impressing me quite a bit lately. I always learn something – every show. She does her research. She’s collegial and polite. It looked like interviewing JD Hayworth tonight was getting under her skin a bit. And she does get a little silly some times, but she is young. As far as I’m concerned she’s the best thing liberals have going as far as TV goes.

But he has spread some misinfo about HCR and or just bone dumb analysis on the machinations in the senate in particular. Which has befuddled because he once worked for the senate as general counsel for a committee. He is full of himself, but that is OK so long as he’s right, which he most times is.

Never played WoW. By the time it came out, I had a family already and didn’t need that kind of ongoing addiction. SP games are bad enough, but at least I can get in and out at will: i.e. when family demands. Played a bit of Asheron’s Call back in the day. It was pretty good.

Civ II is the only game that caused me to stay up two nights in a row without sleep. Not even college visited that horror upon me.

I’m currently replaying a game of Alpha Centauri (on the lap top when I can’t use the good machine). Great setting, great gameplay. The game is 12 years old, but it holds up.

Also playing through the first Mass Effect. What a great game, and what a great sci fi story.

    @ DPirate
Eve Online is for pure Capitalist cutthroats. It’s what happens when there’s an unregulated market backed by military might. Sort of the direction the neocons want to take us, in fact. It’s a completely market-driven game.

And WoW is for the right? Really? I dunno, it’s too geek-fantasy for the right. The Wingers are all playing Modern Warfare 2, I’m sure.

I’m a legacy Friends & Family status player in my hardcore raid guild from back when we were a small casual guild in Classic that merged its way up. I was feeling very out of place since the majority of the guild was always in raids when I was able to play.

So I tried playing in Taint for a while, but ended up having to filter out guild chat into another tab. I went back to my guild after having a ‘grass is greener’ experience.

Anyway, I had no idea there was a BJ guild. Cool.

@JMC in the ATL: Aye, Taint is a mixed blessing at best. If I was interested in Alliance, I think La Familia de Stonewall would be a better fit. As it is, I’m not all that attached to any guild at the moment. My old Alliance guild from Classic was wonderful folk, but … Alliance, meh. When I’m on my Taint toons, I tend to hang out in a chat tab that doesn’t have gchat, but does have the Taint girls’ channel. I’d prolly have found another Hordeside Proudmoore guild, but I’m a bit bored with WoW overall atm.

I feel your pain, John. After about a 2 1/2 year solid addiction, I tried to quit in January. First, they sent me a 10-day free account; that was my downfall. I had been raiding Alliance side, but had rolled Horde with a couple of RL friends. Well, I now have and 80 mage and a 64 warrior on Bladefist. The new LFD tool makes it all worthwhile again. For the Horde!! For all who were mystified by the original post, John was saying that he had moved a character from one server to another. Glad to be of service, and enjoy your game time, sir.
