Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

“Squeaker” McCarthy

We still have time to mess this up!

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

This really is a full service blog.

In my day, never was longer.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

Infrastructure week. at last.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Will that shoulder be healed enough to audition for next years Bloggers On Ice roadshow?

ETA: BTW I measured the heights of both of my daughters last night. My 7.5 year old daughter is 19 inches shorter than me. I’m 6’2″. Hoo boy.

Called my rep. again. David Dreier (R, CA-26), formerly Rules Committee chair, responsible for all the deem and pass bills that were shoved down our throats over the last decade. He had the temerity to go whining (whining! I tell you! like a bloody fool concern troll!) about the Rules used to pass the bill in the house.

Spoke earlier this week with his field rep; called his DC office to again offer my wholehearted support for a bill that I know he’ll vote against.

Best weekend of the year for hoops junkies; some good ball played yesterday all around. I may OD on it by tonight, talking in my sleep about “sweet little kisses off the glass”, but I’ll be ready for tomorrow somehow.

Best thing? After 4 days of hoops, HCR will pass on Sunday and the Right can commence Operation Shitfit.

I’m betting on Orly finally releasing Obama’s Kenyan birth certificate. I think she may be a closet liberal, because that is the only reason I can think of why she hasn’t made it public yet.

Stopped by Congressman Capuano’s Cambridge office today, to say that as a voter, Senate primary campaign contributor, and former fan of the Congressman I was really upset that he wan’t a strong supporter of the health care bill. The person behind the desk – who was fielding about one call per minute – was happy to hear from a bill supporter, but didn’t promise his support. On the other hand, when I said how upset I was that he was against the bill, she said that he wasn’t against the bill “but had some concerns about the process”. So maybe he won’t go full metal asshole on this one.

Just when you though wingnuts couldn’t get any more cynical and depraved.

Most of what senate Republicans say they’re going to try to do is fight like crazy to keep the least popular parts of the original Senate package in the bill. That’s right. They’re going to go to the mat for the ‘Cornhusker Kickback.’ They’re going to do everything they can to prevent the “Cornhusker Kickback” from being overturned. Same with the “Louisiana Purchase”, the tax on “Cadillac” Health Care plans and a bunch of other stuff.

As we know, what happens in reality doesn’t matter in politics. What matters is how reality is portrayed in 30 second attack ads. But I think, on both sides of the political spectrum, the implications of this effort haven’t been adequately thought through.

    The loyal opposition/snark

I am sure now with Citizens United the wingnut wurlizer will run round the clock on concentrated high performance pixie dust, with Malkin head steam afterburners.

    Sentient Puddle

    March 19, 2010 at 3:25 pm

@General Egali Tarian Stuck: What this means is we let them bring the amendments up for vote (and failure), and then in November, run commercials saying “Richard Burr voted for the Cornhusker Kickback and Louisiana Purchase.”

[insert standard disclaimer of how Democrats can’t strategize their way out of a paper bag here]

Just read the reputedly-Democratic-authored ‘doc fix memo‘ and I have to say, if someone on the Democrats’ side did write this memo, it’s the cunningest trap the Republicans have fallen for in a very long time. And if it’s a Republican fake-out, well, Michael Steele is the ‘moran’ that just keeps giving.

Look upon my works, and fear me.

Over 4.4 million people submitted brackets to ESPN’s contest. Less than 60 went 16-for-16 yesterday.

I went 11-for-16 yesterday, and I am 5-for-7 so far today.
