Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The revolution will be supervised.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

You cannot shame the shameless.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Just had a minor development. Decided I wanted a diet cranberry limeade (their food sucks, but the Sonic drinks are win), and I was able to put my belt in my pants while wearing them.

I’d say that is a major victory for the shoulder rehab.

Minor victories like that are major; been there, done that…

…I shattered my left arm at age 15; compounded both bones (friend comes up and says “I think you broke it”; no shit, I saw the marrow in both bones that were now in view).

Anyway, after a few months in a cast, my arm took FOREVER to straighten; first time it did, it was like … yessssssssssssss.

And I totally envy you the Sonic. They won’t come to Canada. My hubby looked into the franchise. We still get the drink commercials, though, on the US stations. I love slushie-type drinks, and theirs look so good, especially during a scorching summer day.

I’m still not sure whether the Dems actually have the votes to pass the health care bill, but I’m reassured after watching the President’s speech to the House Dems. The tone of the speech was that of someone who is certain he’s going to win. You just don’t give a speech like that if you have any doubts about the outcome tomorrow. There was absolutely no equivocation.

They would then vote on the rule, sans deem and pass. He then says there will then be “two hours of debate on the bill.”

Larson did not elude to passing the Senate bill later. But he did say they would do this “in the light of day.”

In conclusion, Larson added that the Senate bill “will become law tomorrow evening with the president’s signature.”

How dare you trash the food at Scronic (what we called it back home in Missouri). The chicken strip dinner is one of life’s great delicacies. Dip the Texas toast in the gravy and then wrap it around a chicken strip and you’ve got yourself a taste-sensation, Mr. I used to eat 2 of those meals in a sitting when I was in High School and hauling hay for local farmers in the summer. 5000 calories a day and I still only weighed 135 lbs. OH noes!! Independent RNC secret poll finds undecided voters overwhelmingly pooh pooh ObamaCare.

On the eve of the tomorrow’s historic health care vote, a privately-commissioned poll by the Republican National Committee shows that the President’s health care reform bill is overwhelmingly unpopular among undecided voters.

In a memo obtained by FrumForum, Chairman Michael Steele tells the other members of the RNC that their poll shows the danger that Democrats face in passing the President’s health care package.

The poll shows that 69% of undecided voters would be less likely to vote for a candidate who voted for the health care reform bill tomorrow. Meanwhile, a strong majority of undecided voters (60%) opposed the legislation, with 45% strongly opposing it

I think we can expect those disapproval numbers to rise into the 130 to 2333 percent pooh pooh Obamacare numbers before the election. I read it in a dem memo,

    Shit, this is fun.

Dunno which website I checked brackets on but when you moused over you were told what % chose each team to win…with both GT & KS had over 90% choose to win…there are very very few, if any, unbusted brackets out there anymore…

As for eating…After having my doctor say I needed to lose 10 points off both my BP & cholesterol I did the very uncool thing of subscribing to the Michael Pollan diet: Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants. That plus a little exercise has lost me 35lbs in 3 months. I am spending more time but less $ to eat and also just bought a new belt. And yeah, I loves me the fast food, after all it is designed for us to love it, but it just isn’t worth it anymore.

BTW, Defazio is now onboard this locomotive, along with most other holdouts. I still say Barty two face will cave and jump aboard at the last second, since Obama will issue a useless EO reaffirming existing law, or the Hyde Amendment. Let the weasel save face for now. Big Dog will bounce him on his knee and wave the clenis finger in his face and that will be punishment enough, I suppose. wanker..

What amazes me is how many chumps think POTUS stayed in town for HCR. Who in the hell wants to be glad handing locals on the other side of the world the last two weeks in March?

I wonder what Obama’s initial reaction was when his staff told him he that his long awaited Asian trip would start March 20.

He prolly went out for a smoke. So, I bet he is enjoying this weekend more than most would think.

    John’s shoulder is good news.

Yes, I heard about the Oakland player who had to come out of the game because the Pitt player elbowed him in the head, and I have nothing good to say about it. The prospect of Butler-Gonzaga in Sweet 16 wonderful. The prospect of Pitt having to play either of these teams elicits howls of pain because one of them will have to go home.

I am psyched for Mizzou-West Virginia tomorrow.

@demo woman: True, but I think I read your comment correctly the first time.
In any event, if HCR does what we all hope tomorrow it will be Obama’s victory, and his legacy. Anything WJC does or doesn’t say/do will be the footnotiest of footnotes and he knows that.
Obama uses resources and rhetoric as needed, at least so far.
The President should never be above calling out whomever can help, and I honestly think Obama is carrying out that tradition.

At least as far as I am concerned, I want an adult who can ask for help in a tough spot when it matters.

The idea of John Oxendine or Nathan Deal as the next governor of GA is seriously scary. I’d love to see Barnes win in November if only as a little vindication for what the Pubs did to him in 2002.

I forgot to say, did either of you see the GA tag-teaming on the House floor earlier tonight on C-SPAN? Phil Gingrey and Lynn Westmoreland were about the only people in the chamber and I think they had a full hour to play with, and just kept yielding to each other, getting more outraged by the minute over the terrible burden this is going to be on our national deficit while at the same time not really making health care any better or more accessible for childen, because there are clinics with nurse practitioners who can phone and make sure the child has taken his medicine. Or something. I couldn’t really follow the points they were trying to make and actually had it on mute most of the time ‘cos I was on the phone. But it was kind of amusing to see the two of them tossing back and forth to each other in front of several hundred empty desks.
