Great work by Steve over at No More Mister Nice Blog on the wingnuts currently throwing bricks through windows and generally attempting to create a climate of fear and intimidation. It really is as simple as Rachel says in the video over there- what they could not achieve in the ballot box they are attempting to achieve through violence and intimidation.
The next plan for these clowns is to march on Washington on 19 April (the anniversary of Waco and the Oklahoma City bombing) with their guns to… well, you know why they are doing it, because you have a working brain. No doubt, however, it is time for another thought piece at Reason on the myth of right wing violence (prefaced, as always with “Other than Oklahoma city, the abortion murders, the Atlanta Olympics… what have the Romans done for us?”). Because remember- it is just a coincidence that gun nuts, militia movements, and angry mobs are on the rise. It has nothing to do with the fact that
Clinton Obama is President and Republicans are whipping people into a froth on a daily basis.
It is just an extra special bet of deliciousness that the person behind all this is on Social Security disability.
*** Update ***
The Wasilla Wingnut tells her supporters to “reload,” then provides a map with rifle scopes over the names of legislators who voted for #HCR.
But don’t worry- glibertarians say this is normal.
April 19th is also Hitler’s birthday, which makes their behavior all the more poignant.
I’d laugh more if this weren’t so depressing and scary.
Liberals in the DC area should counterprotest by silently carrying large signs bearing no words, only pictures of the death and destruction of the OKC bombing.
Apparently, this is “patriotism” to these folks:
Pigs & Spiders
What could possibly go wrong?!?
Let’s hope they can refrain from shooting anyone but each other once the inevitable happens during their peaceful but heavily armed march.
The Moar You Know
Will they be wearing brown shirts, or will that make what they’re doing a little too obvious?
The local Denver tea-baggers met last night… at a local public library.
the word is “terrorism“. really.
Anyone seen this:
George W. Bush Wipes Hand On Bill Clinton’s Shirt After Shaking Hands With Haitians (VIDEO)
The vandalism, like much of their other antics, is really more a sign of cowardice than anything else.
@Pigs & Spiders:
Toss a handful of firecrackers into the crowd and let’s see.
He really is a sociopath, isn’t he? He’s not even aware of how off he is.
Will they be complaining about overcrowding on the subways like the teabaggers? Such tough guys.
The Grand Panjandrum
Cowards, the lot of them. Most of them are fat middle-aged men who couldn’t run across the street without clutching at their chest halfway across. Its no wonder most of the gun nuts have this fetish. Its the only guns they have.
@beltane: I’m sure Glenn Beck will inform us of the significance shortly. :-p
@dr. bloor: I almost wish someone would. Have three hundred elderly Medicare patients and Alabama white power enthusiasts simultaneously shoot themselves in the feet might finally break whatever hypnotic spell the NRA has us under.
Thugs. The thuggery on the right is truly astounding to watch. Go to a few right wing blogs such as Riehl World View and it is a true eye opener. I commented on there some very civil counterpoint to some of their arguments and my comments were removed after a short period of time. They don’t even want discussion at all… it’s armed insurrection that they seemingly are looking for. I am truly astounded at where we are in this country right now.
I seem to have awoken this morning with amazing superpowers. I find myself able to read the minds of every DC cop right now. They’re all thinking the same thing: “I’m not getting paid enough for this shit.”
Posted this in the Open Thread below, but occasionally I peruse the anti-Palin blogs and Palingates has a post up about Queen Sarah’s response to the health care bill passing.
From her Twitter account: “Don’t retreat, Instead – RELOAD!” And a map below that with Democrats who voted for the health care bill being targeted in the next election. They are identified on the map by rifle scopes.
Yeah, they’re really anti-violence.
I have serious doubts that any of these people can aim. They’ll probably wind up shooting themselves in the foot, and then they’ll have to go to the ER and complain about the outrageous prices of health care…
Not that I hope that happens, but wouldn’t it be ironic that they are somehow helped by the health care reforms recently passed if they do in fact get injured?
Wiping his ass with the constitution was the sociopathic part. Wiping his hand on Big Dog’s shirt is just dementia. The man has no frontal lobes to speak of at this point.
April 19th is also the date the Columbine shootings took place. I wonder if these ignorant, mouth-breathing fucks realize that.
I anxiously await Johan Goldberg to tell me how the Liberals’ reaction to the breaking of the glass reeks of Hitler and Mussolini Fascism.
These people honestly believe that the majority of the country is behind them, and they expect to be joined by millions of sympathizers any day now.
They attribute the fact that nobody knows about these secret sympathies to the liberal media that covers it up.
@The Grand Panjandrum: And it’s not the 50-year-old gun nut whispering conspiracy theories they heard from a random bulk email that worry me.
It’s the kid he’s been raising on polluted non-sense. I have too many friends raised on this complete and utter swill, convinced government take-overs of everything are imminent. Not a ton, but definitely too many. Plenty of the kids coming back from Iraq, being spoon feed the crazy, are young enough and capable enough to take pot-shots from a Dallas Book Depository. That’s all I’m saying.
@LuciaMia: Will they be complaining about overcrowding on the subways like the teabaggers?
I wouldn’t be surprised, even when rush hour is over and you actually can get a seat going into DC. Kooks like this tend to need a lot of personal space to be comfortable: just look at the rallies when they’re not specifically ordered to bunch up.
How about if the Obama administration cranks up the old threat level to “Elmo”–declares that muuuuuslim terrorists are planning to attack the capital, and seizes all weapons and armed persons as they enter for any reason with a “can’t be sure you aren’t a muslim?” shrug of the shoulders? That would really be fun.
Actually Hitler’s birthday is April 20. But ya know, horseshoes and hand grenades.
They should make this into a movie:
Mr. Smith & Wesson goes to Washington.
The Grand Panjandrum
Even Politico is writing about the hornet’s nest that’s been stirred up.
It is a federal crime to threaten a member of Congress.
Don’t give them any ideas! Next thing you know it’ll be playing on one tiny screen at every multiplex in the nation. Starring Kirk Cameron!
Sorry, capital, of course should be “capitol.”
I for one hope they have a big crowd all wearing their sidearms. I can see it now… a totally white angry crowd with their signs of Obama in the crosshairs while carrying guns and making their threats of armed revolution. I love it. I think that might truly wake up America as to what f**king lunatics the GOP has been courting with all their over the top rhetoric. What is that old saying, “you reap what you sow”?
what if they missed and actually winged their nuts?!
irony implosion. hole the size of Belgium.
GREAT catch by Yglesias via twitter: Reason magazine endorses Obama’s health care reform package’s basic approach in 2003. Which only begs the question, why does Reason magazine want the downfall of Western society?
Breaking windows of those they disagree with and hate. The teabagger version of Kristallnacht?
mem from somerville
Well, I was trained in clinic defense. I suppose we can use that for congresscritter defense. Transferrable skills, and all….
@Pigs & Spiders:
No one could expect…
@aimai: They aren’t actually going into DC. According to Rachel, they’re rallying at the closest place they can legally carry, Fort Hunt Park in Virginia. Just a few miles down the road. Sigh.
It shows once again what cowards they are — can you imagine a left-wing protest against what we perceived as a major affront being carefully arranged so no one would risk getting arrested? Heck, if no one puts a night in jail on the line, it’s not a major protest!
Perhaps the most ironic point is that Fort Hunt was the site of a secret intelligence facility during WWII, where German prisoners were interrogated. Quite successfully. Without torture or mistreatment.
…our two main weapons are fear, surprise, and battery powered wheelchairs paid for by social security disability checks!
At this point, even they have to be able to grasp the irony, right? I mean, they absolutely have to be doing this on purpose.
I’m wondering who’s going to be the first media pundit or legislator to wear a swastika armband in public…
At that No More Mister Nice Blog post they have one posted sign for the rally, showing “Founding principles for restoring the Confederacy.” Number 10 is “Every individual citizen has the absolute right to any arms they so choose.” DIRTY SOUTH, REPRESENT!
Whoops. April 20th was the Columbine date. Haven’t had my coffee yet when I posted that. My apologies.
Um… this is sarcastic right? Because I honestly can’t see what symbolic importance they’d attach to 4-19 other than Waco and OKC- I mean if they wanted to make it anti-tax or whatever there’s another date 4 days earler thats a lot less insane.
Only a matter of time before something no one could have predicted happens.
Actually, if our side did that, it’d be reported as an indication that we WERE about to cause violence. We’d be raked over the coals for that.
J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford
A “Remember OKC” march would be an excellent counter protest. We need to highlight what these people are doing.
I fully expect at least one of these clowns to blow something up on April 19, or get caught trying, as a “protest” of HCR and sociaIism and a black president.
still won’t be ‘terrorism’ tho
The whole rightwing violence/froth-whipping going on is going to reap rewards for the next republican president, when he finally takes full advantage of all the powers that all the other presidents have given him. Then he’ll stomp all of them down into gulag after they’ve done their cleansing farce.
Isn’t that the way it usually goes?
@The Great Panjandrum
That home address the teabagger thought belonged to Congressman Perriello (VA-5) was actually the congressman’s brother. When informed of the mistake, he called it “collateral damage”.
And Mike Pence, Michele Bachmann, and Steve King leading the rally from the Capitol steps, screaming, “Storm the building! Brandish your arms! Show the politicians you mean business! …No, no, wait! We didn’t mean us!”
That’s been the white power fantasy all along. Something will happen that eliminates the federal government they hate for integration and liberalism, and they become the only wall against a rampaging horde of gang members, who of course will be out of control rampaging with no reason. While at the same time their kids buy pot and such from the same gang members, financing the gang activities activities.
It’s the rampaging black horde fantasy that led to tragedy at Katrina, when black evacuees who simply wanted to cross the bridge into the county were gunned down by those types because of that kind of fear.
That parallels their belief about black people and latinos exactly: that without their racist asses, we are uncontrollable folks who would rather steal than simply reorganize to survive, and that we would burn their houses down.
I’m not so sure I could say Bush deliberately wiped his hand on Clinton after hand shaking, not sure enough to send the vid around to folks anyway.
I remember a video in which there was no doubt Bush is a uncouth ididot. I don’t recall if it was the Leno or Letterman show but the boob grabbed a piece of a staffer’s shirt while her back was turned straightening up the desk & cleaned his reading glasses on it.
In all seriousness, I’m glad to hear this.
So what’s it really supposed to be; come play modern cowboy on Oklahoma Bombing day?
I am impress these twits don’t see how they are smearing themselves with the baby killer paint brush. Even the tame media can’t pass a mem that juicy up. This has to be a wingnut event horizon moment.
Unfortunately, it appears immanent, that an act will take place that the mass media will not find a “the left does it too” rationalization to continue the horse race framing of politics.
I don’t know how to feel about that. It is as depressing as it is scary…
Not only that, none of the “main” media outlets are free of any blame. I don’t want to see any finger pointing at Fox and saying that “They are promoting this behavior!”
Bullshit! You are promoting it as well by never condemning it and making moral equivalence arguments to make sure the horses stay neck and neck. Or, in my wife’s favorite show, “The Amazing Race”, you make sure that every stage has a point where even the team most far behind will have the chance to catch up.
None of them (media outlets) are free of blame in this…it’s is so sad and disappointing that it has come to this, and knowing this, just pisses me off!
Republicans seem to be incapable of anticipating anything possibly going wrong & definitely never learn from past disasters. More proof they are just children & badly behaved children at that.
Does Palin’s Facebook post count as a call to violence, between the reload language and the crosshair imagery? Wouldn’t that surely violate Facebook’s TOS?
How about a Big Guns = Small Penises Counter March
Hey! I’m harmless!
What is totally irksome for me is that the Republicans whipping up the crazy with overheated rhetoric will be whining up a storm if some of the crazies go well, crazy (and it some point they will because this level of vitriol has to explode somewhere/somehow). They will shout it to the mountain tops that these are just the actions of a few and don’t have anything to do with them. The MSM will not call them on it or will soft pedal by saying the left has their crazies too.
Of course these Republicans are also likely to think that violence and sex in movies, TV, and video games are to blame for some of society’s ills. And they will not understand when they are accused of inconsistency and hypocrisy.
The GOP is finally formalizing its paramilitary wing. “It Can’t Happen Here” was apparently an instruction manual.
Everytime I see this I hear the background music from Team America when they first show the terrorists in Paris.
Wow. They really are getting overt with the “govern the way we want or we’ll gun you down” message.
Whatever you do, don’t call them domestic terrorists….because white Americans can’t be terrorists! Newsweek said so.
Can someone report her? That would be awesome if she had to amend or take down her post. Bwahahahaha.
I doubt Palin reviews anything that comes out under her name. She’s a poorly-marketed niche product.
I don’t think they have any larger sense of how anything looks to a wider audience.
It’s a gun theme, and if she saw it at all, she did that idiotic thumbs-up after 5 seconds.
You’ve worked for people like her. Everyone has.
It doesn’t matter if it’s an insane piece of crap that you knocked off in thirty seconds. She hired you, therefore you are GREAT!
I see a bit of a pattern.
Junior wiping his glasses on a woman’s shirt during a commercial break on Letterman.
Maybe he got some sort of shirt wiping fetish?
I’ve heard that Discovery is going exhume Timothy McVeigh so that they can use the remains as a co-host for Sarah Palin’s Alaska.
Naaah. Someone may be killed. There may even be bombings like the OKC incident. But a military force these people ain’t. Way, way too many of them are elderly and in poor health, and they’re impossible to lead. Look at the way the Tea Parties fracture and squabble amongst themselves. You could even get a gun-wielding violent mob or two (although I think they’re too cowardly for that), but they just can’t work together enough to be anyone’s weapon.
EDIT: Assassination, now – that’s possible. That only takes one crazy with a gun in the right place at the right time. Oy.
The incident in Pleasant Ridge, Ohio that Rachel mentioned? That’s the Hamilton County Democratic Party Headquarters, in other words, the Dem HQ for Cincinnati.
I volunteer, and sometimes just hang out, at that building once a month. It was almost daily during the election. I’ll head down in the next few days and see if I can find out anything else about the rock-throwing.
@AJ: I’m glad I’m not the only one who had that thought occur to them
Hey, don’t forget the Holocaust museum. Give credit where credit is due.
@The Grand Panjandrum:
Last night I went to a class at my temple, which is adjacent to Dianne Feinstein’s house. Her street was blocked off by a Federal Protective Service vehicle, and the FPS cop was out of his truck, looking directly at and speaking to everyone who walked by. And temple security (ex-IDF) was carrying openly instead of concealed.
I’m glad they/we are getting good protection, but dammit, I hate that it’s necessary.
I doubt that it’s the getting arrested part they’re worried about. It’s the part where the cops pry the guns from their trembling white hands and refuse to give them back.
I assume that they symbolism is the Battles of Lexington and Concord, when well armed militias started throwing the evil oppressors out of the country. If you’re going to parade around with your guns talking about the Second Amendment, it’s as reasonable a choice of day as any.
I have to say I’m actually a bit suprised how far out on a limb Fox News is going here, both ideologically and in temperament. Ideologically, the Beck wing is getting very close to crossing the business wing which would seem a bit dangerous (the bank bailout outrage for instance was a direct assault on the Fox Business types- I’m eagerly a waiting their language on new financial regualtions and how they square their desire to “protect freedom” and their belief that Wall Street is an evil cabal; that and immigration reform where the big business wing is pretty clearly in favor of at least guest workers but the right populist wing is in full on “brown panic” mode) while in terms of dispositon I would have thought O’Reily’s near liability in the murder of Dr. George Tiller (frankly, he got very lucky that Tiller was killed by a long-time protestor- if it had been a newly activated guy he almost certainly would have lost) was a warning sign- I mean what happens if a man in a Glenn Beck shirt opens fire on a crowd or sets off a bomb- how does FOX not take a massive hit from that (they’d be a lot better off if they had him explain to people that direct action is wrong)? (The ultimate nightmare for them is someone taking a shot at Obama- frankly if that happens I think FOX News HQ in NYC might become a place with a danger level commeasurate with the Green Zone- and that the radio people like Rush- if he hasn’t moved to Florida by now- might seriously be in danger of losing their lives, I was talking with people about that this weekend after the bricks started flying- if Obama is wounded much less killed by one of these whackos- what are the odds of Glenn Beck working in NYC for more than week without incident; I put them at 20%- O’Reily got away with the virtual lynching of Tiller because Tiller’s not a major public figure, if Beck did the same to Obama he’s in all likelihood a dead man.)
NickM- I think a major incident could happen, and while I think with a large enough body count there’d be a backlash (and yes it would take a large body count- simply flying a plane into a building or opening fire in a liberal church apparently doesn’t enrage people) but I think there’s one thing that even the whackiest of the GOP public servants fears- someone taking a shot at the President- the impact of something like that (and frankly, I hate to even think about it: I feared it early on a bit but until this weekend it had been months if not a year since I’d worried about it seriously rather than abstractly) would be blood in the streets- put it this way I wouldn’t want to be a talk radio host or Fox News personality that week, heck it’d probably be pretty dangerous to be a birther or “he’s a Nazi” congressperson in DC.
Roger- My bad, though one would think that they would have noticed the far, far more recent symbolism and switched to 4-15, especially since Obama hasn’t really done anything that impacts the 2nd amendment (heck, in large part the Democratic party has conceded on Gun Control and the NRA types aren’t really agitating for the removal of Brady anymore, since the expiration of the assualt weapons ban and the SC decision on DC its been pretty quiet).
I like the 13 principles for restoring the confederacy thing. That was cute.
Give them Alabama and Mississippi and tell them to get the hell out and stay the hell out. Then build a fence around it and top it with razor wire.
Have fun with your guns, y’all.
Do these people think they are the only ones who know how to fight, or shoot? Do they think everyone else in the country is going to sit on their hands while they threaten anyone who disagrees with them?
They need to knock this shit off before it gets ugly.
Gabrielle Giffords in on that list, too? Shee-it. That’s my Congress critter. Methinks the teabaggers are going to find it very difficult to get traction in her district. Tucson’s very blue and full of college kids.
Why? Can any of them read?
Seriously, I love that they hold their anti-government, anti-tax meetings at government run, tax supported institutions. Priceless.
The gas line to the home of Rep. Perriello’s brother was severed…
@NickM: But it’s the dirty hippie “Progressives” who are the brown shirts, or wear brown shirts. Glenn Beck said so.
Island in Alabama
I hope people are prepared for waves of refugees from these states, including the 10% of Whites in Alabama who didn’t vote for McCain and the Grifter.
I get the disgust with the crackers, and it may be that there’s just no reasonable solution for America that includes the Deep South, but there are lots of minorities and some sane White people in the South who suffer plenty just by living here.
April 20 is Hitler’s birthday. April 19 is the anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the “official” start of the American Revolutionary War – thus its significance.
Also I suspect that the Teabaggers also don’t want to share the next day with people who advocate a different kind of “tea”, who are mostly peaceful, liberal/libertarian wi th a small l, and who would rather not have shootouts with the police.
It’s scary out there now. Is anyone planning a “clinic defense” or “show our appreciation” event for the people the wingnuts are targeting?
@Uloborus: I really, really hope that you’re right… and that they’re not joined by many of the fucked-over and/or fucked-up young veterans who will be coming home in this decade.
Would these people be stupid enough to turn Obama into a martyr?
I don’t want to see that happen (of course), but, it would only seal the health care deeper into the hearts and minds of regular Americans. The winger movement would be doing much more damage to their own cause instead of hurting their opposition.
Hey Island in Alabama, my apologies if it seems like I’m picking on the south. There are knuckleheads everywhere.
Maybe we could all chip in and buy Greenland off of the Danes, and let all of the 10th amendment secessionist folks go there.
Start fresh with a brand new country!
When global warming kicks in it might actually be a nice place to live. Plus, hey, narwhals! They’re good eating, I bet.
I know I’d contribute a few bucks.
If it’s so all so freaking intolerable to them, I wish they’d just go the hell away and let the rest of us get on with trying to get something constructive done.
And enough already with the guns. If they keep it up with that crap, the sh*t is gonna hit the fan.
sorry, blockquote fail.
@Pigs & Spiders:
“What could possibly go wrong?!?”
“Toss a handful of firecrackers into the crowd and let’s see.”
You’re a cruel, cruel man :)
@Little Dreamer: I don’t think they are thinking that far ahead. I watched a clip from last night’s Maddow in which the idiot blogger advocating breaking windows (while living off his Disability checks) was frothing at the mouth at the supposed tyranny of a democratically-elected government. He kept talking about how they were armed and ready to go. “Don’t make us shoot you!” was his basic threat. (ETA: It’s probably in the clip linked by Cole. Sigh. Sorry).
I hate this shit. These punk-ass cowards are gonna get someone else killed. As for the ‘random act of violence’ bullshit, Olbermann had a great bit on that the other day. He listed several of the incidences and said (and I’m paraphrasing, of course), “Do you know what they call something that happens with such frequency? Republican.”
@Roger Moore: Of course most of the militias were useless and more often than not, bolted as soon as they were fired on. All real battles were fought and won by American regulars.
Crap. 4/20 will never be the same again.
Freepers call the threats propaganda!
Is there nothing that these people won’t turn into a conspiracy theory?
@russell: Maybe we can arrange for a Big Lebowski theme parade to collide with the wingnut parade.
Island in Alabama
No problem. The South certainly seems to have more than its share (of knuckleheads), and the temptation to trash it is understandable. We just need the occasional reminder that not everyone in the South is a jerk. And for those who aren’t jerks, but have ties that bind (e.g. jobs, mortgages), it’s already sucky enough to live in the midst of tea baggery without having to consider the prospect of being abandoned by saner regions of the nation.
@Island in Alabama:
Word. There are plenty of Obama supporters back home in MS who wouldn’t want to be on the inside of that fence! Give them time to relocate, pls.
I have often fantasized about what would happen to my hometown without all its federal pork. They say they hate it, until the government wants to close our local NAS to reduce spending. Then they fight tooth and nail to keep those fed dollars. A huge percentage of what economy there is comes from federal sources.
And the Greenland idea is awesome, because I love the idea of the Lord of the Flies shenanigans and sustenance labor fail that would ensue. My grandparents knew how to rear and slaughter livestock and manage a family farm, but I’m pretty sure my generation has lost the art.
Have you noticed that the real violence almost always come from the left, yet the MSM would have you believe it is from the right? In the ’70s it was the Black Panthers, the Black Liberation Front, the Weather Underground, the SLA, the animal rights nuts and the eco-terrorists, just to name a few. Lee Harvey Oswald was a tool of Cuba or the Soviet Union depending on whose theory you buy. Yet the MSM in the early days after the assassination had the country convinced in was the right wingers in Dallas. Today it is the SEIU thugs who are the Democratic party’s Brownshirts, and the radical student mobs on campuses who enforce the academy’s suppression of free thought and speech. Funny how much the media narrative departs from the reality.
de mush doctor
From what I know is that the black phanter party was most always defending black people from the onslaught from vile racist hateful self-hating white goons who was determined to annihilate the black poppulation from the face of the planet…period!!!
so what do you expect black people to do fool? continue to be misused, beaten down and abused by hateful white mongrels? You white folks continue to live your sorry lives in la – la land of denial and pure buffoonery.
@ 102 So Banjo – I guess you make a distinction of “real violence” like you do about “real Americans”?
