I guess I missed this, but exactly when did Katie Couric and Wolf Blitzer firebomb Sarah Palin’s church:

Does anyone have any idea what the hell he is talking about? Did I miss something?

    If this video features the sound of Sarah Facepalm’s voice, I refuse to watch it. This woman has lingered way passed her expiration date, and her only purpose now is to stink things up.

    She also left Alaska with more per capita debt than any other state in the union. Palin will forever be the Miss America of FAIL.

    You missed nothing. This is what happens when 1/4 of the nation goes off its meds.

    My favorite was Beck’s “Teach your kids how to plant food.” Kinda gotta teach them how to thresh and winnow wheat, grind the kernels, and bake them some bread too. Subsistence agriculture is a fine thing — if your goal is simple subsistence.

    (Oh — and a ten by ten foot backyard wheat plot will get you up to, maybe, 25 loaves of bread. Maybe that’s the point — you grow your own food, Glenn, and you’ll get skinny at last.)

    Did you see that, one of the Teabaggers had a Glenn Beck button on his hat!

    In other news, Barry has brought his Chicago teachings to the local Democrats in Washington DC.

    “A crowd sprayed with bullets in a drive-by that killed four and wounded five had just returned from the funeral of man slain nearby and a 20-year-old is suspected in both shootings.”

    There is much work still to be done in Washington, as this is nowhere near the dozen or so sent nightly to that single emergency room with knife and bullet wounds in Barry’s old neighborhood, where his teachings have had time to sink in.

    by the way, i suspect that the “sarah keeps walking towards the fire” line is a confused mash-up of a couple of other right-wing memes:
    1) when everyone else is running out of a burning building, fire-fighters are running in;
    2) a lot of fire-fighters died on 9/11;
    3) therefore, by walking towards the fire, you take on the mantle of 9/11 heroism.

    what really pisses me off about this is that prior to 9/11, they would have spat on any new yorker as a coastal elite. then some jackass saudis fly some planes into the wtc, and for a week the wing-nuts love new york. now they are back to hating coastal elites, and 9/11 really happened in wasilla. also.

    I didn’t know that 2010 USA was exactly the same as the Weimar Republic and that we’re making the steps toward Nazism; thanks Glenn Beck!

    If you think about it, it sort of makes sense. The Weimar Republic is the American government, which represents a coalition of various liberal and conservative parties/interests. A small rabid, conservative minority begins to agitate. Conservative elites, believing they could control this minority, threw their support behind it as a means of defeating the soshulists/liberals and dissolving the Republic and entrenching themselves into power positions. Of course, the (now) somewhat larger radical conservative minority schemed and became larger, and it eventual cast aside the conservative elites in favor of its own radical leadership.

    So, except for the lack of hyper-inflation, a Great Depression, losing a World War, a different political system, and a military with designs on power, things are exactly the same as Weimar Germany.

    Oh, and the Tea Party = NSDAP, but don’t tell them that, they might get mad.

    From the files of “fuck, I wish I wrote this!” the always brilliant James Wolcott.

    I turned on the TV and there’s Sarah Palin, keynote speaker at an outdoor Tea Party rally in Nevada, shouting into a wind so strong her words seem to be whipping back at her. Everything’s flapping: the flags, the script pages in front of her, the hinges of her mind like a shithouse in a gale, to borrow a phrase from somebody, I know not whom. It’s a pep talk Palin must have written herself because no outside party could put together such a staccato barrage of folksy locutions and plucky banalities that sends logic and coherence running screaming from the room. It’s really quite patronizing, the low-rent quality of pre-fab rhetoric she fobs off on her followers as she rakes in money from the “mainstream media” she pretends to upbraid, but her marks clearly don’t mind, so let them be pawns in her game, serving as crowd extras in the movie Robert Altman didn’t live to make. -James Wolcott

    As odd as this feels for me, I need to speak a bit in defense of the county–and town–I grew up in.* Yes, Fairfield Republicans are self-entitled douchebags; so are Fairfield Democrats, for the most part. That’s just a rich Fairfielder thing. But just the other day, I was reflecting on this with a friend: The Fairfield Republicans I grew up around weren’t wingnuts. They were Republicans mostly because they were rich and wanted that top-bracket tax cut, which at least makes sense. And by and large, they didn’t go for all that social conservative culture war bullshit. You could agree or disagree with them, but at least they were sensible; they’re the kind of Republicans the GOP has left behind.

    [asterisk here] As a disclaimer, I haven’t lived in Fairfield for well over a decade, and when I go back to visit my mom, it’s never for more than a week, so it’s possible the place has gone full metal wingnut since I left, but I haven’t really seen it. And I say it feels odd to defend Fairfield because growing up, I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there, and nowadays, when I tell people where I’m from, I usually follow it with “…but don’t hold that against me.”
