I can’t get enough of this stuff:
Speaker Pelosi likes to call the Republicans the ‘Party of No.’ Some of us, we don’t like the way that sounds. It hurts our feelings.
In a few weeks we will start hearing complaints about the next SCOTUS nominee’s tendency to empathize, btw.

Not a minute later he said they were the party of Hell No on healthcare. Sigh.

Like I posted a few weeks ago, I was listening to Limbaugh and he had a sub in for him. The sub said the Republicans needed to be the party of “No comma [something else].” Seriously. He said they needed to say, “No!” first, but not just no. They needed to follow with good ideas. But he didn’t have any ideas. He asked his listeners to call in with them.
I’m sure he won’t be asked back to sub for Limbaugh again. He was way off the reservation.

Bobby Jindal is a wanker of the first order. It’s a beautiful day in NOLA, and the cloud of evil hanging over the city is palpable. This morning’s paper had pix of Baby Dick Cheney, Matalin and Gingrich from yesterday’s wankfest. Today is Palin and Pawlenty. Interestingly, none of the speakers yesterday made one single mention of Katrina, the continued rebuilding, or the abject failure of GWB and his response to the aftermath. Shocking, I know.
Having this much concentrated asshattery in our beautiful city is too much. Have we not suffered enough? They better spend a hell of a lot of money and tip very well.

@Violet: Speaking of which, Gingrich claims that GOP leadership has asked him to plan another government shutdown in the event that they manage to take congress in 2010. Party of ideas!

Remember, the Republican party is the one that thinks Ronald Reagan was great because he made America feel good about itself again after Vietnam. They’re happy to talk about feelings, just so long as it’s their feelings being talked about, not somebody else.

Jindal, according to TPM, told the folks to stay away from Bourbon Street. Probably means they’ll flock there, of course.

Nah. That was just what they played for Sotomayor in an age of relative comity and cooperation, and when it was a little harder to criticize someone so obviously qualified but was a minority. This ain’t 2009 anymore.

No, next they will express personal hurt, outrage and explicitly point out they resent, on a very personal hurt level, that you disagree in any way with their arguments.
You attacked them, they are victims, and you have asked for any kind of treatment they choose to respond with.
They are reaching the bottom of the social opinion engineering barrel, and getting down the stoopit and the counterproductive Fail, and idjit sludge at the bottom.

@Elisabeth:
What they really need to worry about are the “alternative” sorts of establishments. The GOP tendency to the kinky is well documented. If this little gooper soiree ends without at least one cellphone video of an attendee in a compromising position I’ll be sorely disappointed.

I think Bobby has come down with a case of Eric Cantor disease. What the hell is it about Pelosi that turns these GOP men into WATB’s? (On second thought the question answer’s itself.) Maybe she should don a nun’s habit and carry a ruler around. Jesus, what a bunch of pussies.

Speaking of Jindal, it seems like if you want to make it big in the GOP circles and you are of Indian descent you have to be a convert to some version of Christianity.
Examples: Jindal, Ramesh Ponnuru and Nikki Haley.
Does anyone know of any prominent Hindu/Sikh/Muslim Indian Americans in the GOP who contradict this rule of thumb?

@schrodinger’s cat: This is just part and parcel of the requirement that GOP leaders be either conservative evangelicals, or Catholics or Jews sympathetic to their views (eg., Jindal qualifies because he believes in demon possession).
Hindus, Sikhs, or Muslims of Indian descent couldn’t toe that line very easily, although I suspect there are a lot of American Hindus who vote Republican.

This is exactly what my wingnut brother did when I pointed out that his entire half of a “discussion” about climate change consisted of him interrupting me before I’d finished even one sentence and shouting “prove it! Prove it! You can’t prove it!” over and over. And when I simply described this behavior, he was incredibly hurt and said he couldn’t believe I’d sunk to making personal attacks on him.
It’s all about the fee-fees, as long as they’re the only ones who get to have them.

I was over at RedState reading about their take on the SRLC. A lot of commenters said how unnecessary Tony Perkins (the opening speaker) attacks on gays were. Almost everyone agreed it was a)bad politics, b)not something they would win, and c)was alienating more voters. But not one person, not one, said it was WRONG. Just bad politics.

As long as he is in the diplomatic service and the US doesn’t declare him persona non grata, he will be allowed back in. Doubtful that Qatar will do that in the short term though.
I didn’t see the Qatari statement. What did they say? I assume a lot of it was “you can’t do this to our diplomats” kind of stuff they have to say in public to avoid losing face while they are trying to defuse the situation behind the scenes. It is diplomacy after all.
