I had a vague hope that the torrential rains of the past few weeks would have cut back on the tree pollen levels here, north of Boston. Unfortunately, a few sunny days, and the neighbors’ oaks and maples are burgeoning with their contribution to what’s being called the worst allergy season in years. The itchy eyes, nasal symptoms, and achy joints are bad enough, but it’s the brain fog that’s really driving me crazy. Why must histamines make one stupid?

We had a week of rain over here in England, and now that it’s stopped, I’m really having a hell of a time with the tree pollen. Being up two nights in a row with a sickly toddler hasn’t helped with the brain fog, either.
W/r/t Malcolm McLaren: I’m a bit too young to have followed the bands he managed, but I do remember his amusing “campaign” for mayor of London in 2000. His posters had a logo that featured a safety pin stuck through it. I stared at them a lot in bus stations while drunk.

I’ve been told I’m allergic to anything green except seaweed, and even then there are some doubts.
Is there better place to get my pollen counts than the American Academy of Allergy and Asthma Immunology (AAAAI.org)? Their nearest place is 40 miles away but my nose tells me it’s pretty accurate, but also not updated daily.

Well the Christianist are out to piss off the entire state of WV.

Did anyone besides me have trouble getting on to this site yesterday?

Since this is apparently Confederate History Month, let’s all band together and wish people a very happy Appomattox Courthouse Day.

But the cherry trees in Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ, are stunning this year.

It is? Damn, I was celebrating Northern Yankees Preserve The Union And Kick The Ass of Treasonous Slave-owning Southern Insurrectionists History Month.

Anne, get some loratadine (generic Allavert). It’s a once-a-day tablet, and now quite cheap ($14/60 tablets at Meijer).

i almost have a bit of admiration for what the phelps clan is doing. wait wait..
i mean it takes one hell of an effort, in a country as factioned as this, to actually achieve pissing off everybody.
i mean you can hate them for what they do, how they do it, why they do it, i can’t argue with that.
but the militance it takes, the concentrated hostility, for its purity, is remarkable.

@JGabriel: Now that is not fair. Some of us have ancestors who were border-staters who fought for the Union as well. Yankees trying to get all the damn credit…

@Barry:
yes yes! I take it-for me it’s the pine pollen, Anne, you know the stuff that turns the air smoky when the wind blows UGH-and it really works. The trick is to start before the symptoms come (if possible) and keep taking every day. It will work. good luck.

For me it’s all about oak pollen. It’s so bad that my eyes itch just seeing a picture of mighty oaks in flower.
You have my deepest sympathies. It really sucks that the most beautiful time of year entails three weeks of hell.
