Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

So my dog was raised in Alabama as a puppy with lots of room to run and didn’t spend much time on a leash. Since I have moved to Brooklyn, he has adjusted rather well, except for one thing: he is terrified of subway grates and the doors that cover the basement of buildings. He pulls violently away from them, sometimes almost into the street. I can’t seem to get him to relax on the sidewalk. Any advice from transplants who had a similar problem?

Have been cutting scraps of baseboard trim I picked up at our local lumber company at 10 cents apiece to make picture frames. Any one who has tried to cut wood at angles using a miter board has known flustration at getting it to stay put long enough to get a clean cut. Charlie is fascinated, and the mouse sander has captured his imagination after first being afraid of it. Now his tail wags and he wants to lick it, I think because he thinks it’s some critter to make friends with. I love dogs. Really I do!!

My mother’s dog of 11 and a half years, who was a Honduran immigrant (the dog not my mother), died in December. So I talk to her today and she tells me she went to the county Humane Society adoption fair and adopted a possum a few days ago. And I asked whether this was like “adopting” a zoo animal, where the animal stays at the zoo, and she said, no, the possum was home with her. So I asked whether she was going to get it healthy enough to let into the wild or something, and she said, no, she was going to keep it as a pet. And I was thinking, “Well, maybe this could work out all right after all…” Then she told me it was a dog named Possum; she’s such a kidster. He’s a little white mutt kind of a dog, and he’s deaf. She said he’s settling in like he’s lived there forever, and she’s feeling a lot better now, with a new dog to keep her company. I can’t wait to get down to meet Possum.

I moved to Bama from the city in middle school, went to the University of Alabama and figured I had done my duty in the South. After I got my medical discharge from the Marine Corps I boogied out fast as possible. I love so many of things about Alabama (football, women, affordability), but I love many more things about New York.

And the dog hates bud. Partial to bourbon though.

@Bnut: If you watch Victoria Stillwell (sp?) on her Animal Planet show about training dogs, she advises using something to distract the dog right before the problem thing is encountered. She uses small treats or a squeaky toy or something the dog is sure to be interested in. Then just before the dog is aware of the problem, the trainer speaks to the dog and offers the treat to get his attention off of the problem while continuing to move past the problem area. A short leash would be helpful to do this. She repeats the exercise until the dog is ok with whatever caused the problem. It’s probably not as easy as the show portrays but worth a try.

So last night, I was on youtube looking at some “Designing Women” scenes and I ended up way past my bedtime.

“Designing Women” was a really funny show, and Delta Burke was DAMN FUNNY!!!! That woman could deliver some zingers, she was Karen from Will & Grace, and Samantha from Sex in the City all rolled into one.

I thought I’d share some of the videos with ya’ll so ya’ll can share in my enjoyment.

    (Plus I’m bored..so there)

“Julia Is Pissed About Jury Duty”

Edited: I didn’t realize how much of a flaming liberal “Julia Sugarbasker” was. In fact, the show in general was pretty liberal-minded. I’m not sure if it would be as big today as then.

I got in the mood this morning with a brunch at a Pittsburgh hotel where the bands that had competed in a blues competition the night before played through the brunch. I love Jason Linkins’ Sunday Show reviews. He makes me laugh.

All the panelists ensure Matthews that the resulting matter will be a big fight for the media to cover without ever once being substantive. Matthews says, “I’m reminded by Adlai Stevenson, for some reason.” Yes, because you have the attention span of a mayfly.

I’ll second Josie on the Victoria method, it takes lots of patience (and chicken/sausage) to coax a dog past it’s phobia. Cesar does this too, but he tends to work the desensitizing angle–you should choose whatever method you’re most comfy with, since the dog will pick up on your ‘vibe’ through all of this. Good luck, a dog is a great companion to have in the concrete jungle!

    @lamh31:

The writing on that show was quite liberal for the time, credit to Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. Dixie Carter wasn’t nearly as liberal as her character, but she sure did a great job with Julia’s rants! Delta Burke as Suzanne was great as well. Her character was so over-the-top it would have been easy to go off the rails. After all, she carried a gun, had a pet pig named Noelle, slept in one of her beauty queen crowns every night, and once shot Anthony, the delivery guy for the design firm.

    Open thread…

I was push-polled by the NRA yesterday. A woman with a down-home voice came on the line, said she was from the NRA and asked if I’d listen to a message from the head of the NRA and answer one question.

Ordinarily I just say no thank you and hang up on pollsters. I was just enough intrigued to see where it was going. Usually a recording starts right away, but this time they were asking permission to play a recording. So I listened.

It was a pretty boiler-plate message about going down to Washington and kicking out anyone who wasn’t going to promise not to take away our guns, etc.

Then the interviewer came back on, asked if I had heard “Wayne’s” message, and asked “Do you trust President Obama and Nancy Pelosi to protect your Second Amendment rights?”

    To which I answered “Absolutely.:

And she thanked me and that was that. (If I had said “No” I daresay I would have been asked for a contribution).

But I have to figure, most people who disagreed with the NRA would probaby have not sat through the message at all — the percentage of people who listened to the whole recording probaby included *lots* of NRA-friendly folk, and very few folk like me.

@lamh31: Dixie Carter was a republican. As was Delta Burke. Linda Bloodworth Thomason and her husband were Clinton friends and did the Man From Hope video. I believe they did the Clinton video used in 2000 too. I may be wrong about this but I believe they were also tangentially involved in the travelgate scandal. I can’t remember all the Clinton related true scandal/made up GOP scandals.
