The latest strike from the Khmer Rogue:
California State Senator Leland Yee, who has been battling a state university over disclosing Sarah Palin’s speaking contract, complains in a press release today that he’s been getting nasty emails and faxes.
[…..]An expletive-laden fax received yesterday in the Senator’s San Francisco and Sacramento offices says, “To: JoBama Rectum Sniffer Fish Head Leland Yee” and then in all capital letters, “WERE YOU TO EXTRACT YOUR HEAD FROM TREASONOUS MARXIST NIG**R HUSSEIN OBAMA’S RECTUM, YOUR BRAIN WOULD STILL FUNCTION AT ITS PRESENT MUCH DIMINISHED LEVEL BUT AT LEAST THE NIG**R SH*T SMELL WOULD EVENTUALLY DISSIPATE.”
The fax, which included a graphic of an American flag adorned pickup truck dragging a noose, also states “FIGHTING The Marxist Nig**r Thug Hussein Obama” and “Safeguard the Constitution, Death of all Domestic Marxists!”

The repetitive use of the M word in this fax may be an indication that we’re doing a pretty good job resurrecting the word “liberal” in this country. I’m choosing to take this as a sign that we’re moving in a positive direction.

Back when Illinois State Senator Barack Obama was running for the US Senate, I wrote a letter to the editor at the Chicago Tribune in which I expressed my frustration over the fact that their magazine writer seemed to presume that I, a middle-class white woman, could only be interested in candidate Obama because he was handsome and “not too Black.” Hmph! Said I! Excellent candidate, speaks for many, etc, etc!
And someone felt the need to respond by sending a threatening letter to my home, calling me an n-lover, etc, etc.
There’s no understanding it — there’s just trying to contain it.
(Also, and not for nothing, but you don’t know discomfort until you’re a middle-class white woman reading the contents of such a letter to a young and clearly African American woman at the USPS. “And how did he spell the N word, mam’n?””)

Funny that, before my parents left for vacation, my mother informed me that, when I’m not around, my wingnut aunt expresses a fond wish to have Obama assassinated, to the point of wishing that she could be the one to perform the act.
After a severe moment of WTF?!, I lit into both my parents for placing me on the “You’re just as bad as she is, but on the opposite side” point on the political spectrum. I straight up told my parents if I ever heard anything like this firsthand from my mom’s sister, I would be calling DHS or the FBIquite quickly.

I recently said the same thing to our staff assistant who apparently dreams of offing our good preznit because he is not a Christian. And who is a big time local Tea Bagger who is sick, sick, I tell you, of paying for all those people on the government dole.
Said staff assistant works at a campus of a major public university and assists the student aid officer (me) who helped her son get federal and state grants to attend said major public university. He needed the grants because the major public university only gives an employee (or dependent) a 75% discount, a tragedy according to staff assistant. She thinks it should be free.
But Obama and all his tax payer funds-sucking supporters should die because he does not worship in her approved fashion and suck up too much of her hard earned tax dollars.

Regarding the crazy slant of the Yahoo editorial page: I have a friend who used to work for Yahoo and he clued me into some useful information about them. Yahoo’s demographic leans much older than most web companies, especially in the US. Their core demographic is disproportionately full of middle aged and older folks who got onto the web years ago, got attached to the big popular site at the time (i.e., yahoo) and then never switched because change is scary ZOMG! Outside the US, the story is different, but inside the US, I’m guessing their audience puts them under the same pressures that newspapers and cable news channels face: namely, an audience that on average ages more than one year every year. That’s why the median age of an O’Reilly viewer is over 70. And because their audience is shrinking not growing, they’re especially conservative when it comes to not pissing off the old folks.

My ex-father – like nearly all these extreme queer-haters – seemed curiously focused on the act of man-on-man anal and oral sex. When he would get on one of his disgusting anti-homo rants, it was always about how much he loathed two guys doing each other.
After hearing enough of this, I couldn’t help but think that only gay guys think this much about gay sex. I didn’t dare say it out loud of course; he would likely have punched me in the mouth for essentially calling him a fag. Really.
Anyway, it’s hardly surprising that these people always think of gays in terms of men having sex. It’s almost never disgust with women having sex with each other, is it?
I don’t like thinking about two men having sex either; that’s why I DON’T SPEND TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.
Next time you encounter one of these un-self-aware homo-hating jerks, just tell them, “The only people who think as much about gay sex as you, are gay men.” They’ll get all upset with you at first… but I guarantee that later on, in a quiet moment, they’ll think about what you said.

Tortured people? Check. Committed war crimes? Double check. Threw his weight around (although not as well as Hitler) on other countries in illegally agressive ways? Double check. A wide variety of similarities, aren’t their. And we didn’t threaten violence, either. Your equivalence is false.

Now, to be fair, Bush only started an illegal war based on nothing that annihilated 1-1.5 million human beings. That’s only like, 20-25% of a Holocaust. I have it on good authority that mass killings don’t really become a problem until you cross the 90% Holocaust barrier. Plus, these are Arabs, not people, so they don’t even count! And besides all that, you can’t really compare Hitler’s intentional annihilation of people with George Bush’s I-will-annihilate-people-because-I-just don’t-care-enough-to-figure-out-if-I-should-annihilate-them plan. I mean, no judge has ever sent anyone to prison for depraved indifference or reckless disregard for human life, because crimes only happen when you intend for them to happen. Maybe it’s because I grew up in NYC and now live in LA where “the gay” is not such a big deal for most of us “straights”, I tend to wonder aloud “hello, what’s the big deal with coming out already”? But then I think about the way homosexuality continues to be viewed by the average enlightened black person and then I get over it and frankly, I get over myself.
I mean for godsakes, gay folks are chaining themselves to the gates of the whitehouse for the right to serve openly in our military and possibly get killed.
I hate to quote the escaped mental patient that is Glenn Beck when I say honestly that “I fear for my Country” sometimes.
Oh well, what can we do? I, for one, will just continue to donate my time and money to causes and politicians who support my views. What is so hideous about these wealthy, well spoken freaks? They look just like you or me don’t they? And they are so RICH RICH RICH. Oh – I forgot to mention – like the very evilest monster in your worst dream – they aren’t really human. They really have no souls. Life is easier without one. Although you will often find them in church every now and then and they may CLAIM that yes they do love the Lord Jesus, and really DO believe in God – they really believe in the FSM, Santa or the Easter Bunny just as much. Especially those antiquated teachings of the New Testament. Love thy neighbor. Do unto others. Sorry, as the nuns said – “They don’t put potatoes on the table”. A conservative friend of mine on Facebook told me it’s probably Palin haters who sent the messages to Yee’s office, just to make her and her fans look bad. :-\

That has to be from liberal provocateurs. The spelling is too good for it to be from an actual conservative.

Don’t little kids always point at the other one when they want to deflect blame? Seems to me Cons get caught then act like their shit don’t stink (thanks cons for the crap reference!) or blame liberals for their hatred of Bush or they are undercover because NO rightie would NEEEEVVVVVEEEERRRRR send threatening letters.

About time….
Sarah Palin blamed by the US Secret Service over death threats against Barack Obama

There is really a lot more to the story.
There is also a recorded threatening phone call.
There are two pages of racist hate crime hand drawings and rantings.
The Senator himself has described these attacks as coming from a “Palin supporter.” So far the law enforcement agencies involved have not contradicted this view of the event.
The Senator’s office has been deluged with phone calls from Palin supporters accusing him of fraud and trying to intimidate them by making this up.
Ugly ugly ugly racist homophobe politicized hatred.

Here is a link to the audio message left on Senator Yee’s answering machine?
Anybody recognize the voice by any chance?

I sincerely hope the Secret Service is looking at those faxes. The fax with the drawing of the pickup truck dragging a noose has a likeness of the President inside the noose. It is obvious by the ears. (Sorry Mr. President, but you do have, well, distinctive ears. I am so grateful you have so much intelligence between those ears!)

Those faxes and the audio are vile, and that is a gross understatement. I hope someone recognizes the voice on that voicemail and reports it.

I got into it with a conservative on a friend’s FB page over healthcare (before the reform passed). I made my point, and then he called me names–such as pinhead. I made one more point, and then decided to let it go. He PM’ed me and said it was people like him who paid for the tiny, miserable lives of people like me. By the way, he was a vet, which meant he had lifetime HC, of course. He was really nasty, and I ended up blocking him. Later, I saw a clip of O’Reilly (on Stewart’s show), and in it, O’Reilly was calling someone a pinhead. I rolled my eyes. This asshat had been spouting O’Reilly talking points at me, down to the name-calling. Lovely.

Another manifestation of the hate rhetoric in action on an every day level making life more coarse and nasty than it needs to be. If you are not “with them” you are “against them” and thus open to any insult or vileness they have picked up from FOX, each other or the toilet wall for that matter.
I’m sorry you had to experience that.

On Palingates we published screenshots of the original threatening fax messages which were sent to Senator Yee, as well as the audio clip of the abusive phone he mentions in his press release.

We contacted Senator Yee’s office yesterday and were sent the documents afterwards as a result.
I strongly believe that the original documentation always provides the most accurate and chilling view on events.

A right-wing newbie commenter at HuffPo who also claimed veteran status said this to me: “Too bad when I was defending your rights in the Army, that I couldn’t be selective as to whom I chose to live under that protection!”
My response: “Wow. Indeed, it’s “too bad”. Let me take on a typical right-wing method of argument, and ask you: Are you saying that you would prefer to selectively defend the rights of other people like yourself, and not me or other people you don’t agree with? AND ARE YOU THREATENING ME? (seems to me that the Army doesn’t give you the choice to vote, like we got to do in November a year-plus ago — where the clear majority of American voters chose Democratic)
Like that noted Alaska Independence Party supporter Todd Palin said, “If you don’t love America (and ALL its people), then why don’t you get the h-e-ll out?”
I’m sure there are people in other countries, like Libya or Somalia, that appreciate your point of view.”

I would be extremely happy if people like the above were weeded out of positions of responsibility and/or power, especially when they are handed a gun.

“she just huffs about how “those people” don’t value marriage the way “we” do and that he probably has loads of hoochie girlfriends on the side.”
Repubs really value marriages.
That’s why they go through so many of them.
