It really is just breathtaking how damned shameless they are. They’ll simply lie about anything, and they simply won’t get called out on it.
There is just no reason for them not to lie, though, since no one in the media will call them out.

“Breathtaking”
Damn!
I thought this was a post about Yvonne Strahovski.

The Grand Panjandrum
Remind anyone of the stimulus bill? Republicans all railed against until it was time to start handing out check. Then … voila! Suddenly they were front and center getting pictures taken with local officials. Sounds like campaign ad material to me.

Why not us?
Not all Repub lies need to be categorized, but Grassley is running in 2010. Next priority are those Senators running in ’12.
Tag “Grassley Breathtaking Lie”
Tag “McCain Breathtaking Lie”
You get it.

but if the media did their jobs, they’d get disenvited from all the cool cocktail parties, and open themselves up to charges of “liburel media bias”.
if only obama used his 11th dimensional bully pulpit, the corporate media would wake up.

It took them about forty years, but the Republicans all campaign loudly about the need to defend Medicare. They’ll campaign about the need to defend the Affordable Care Act, too. But seeing the flip done by the same actual person, and within weeks, is incredible.
Or it should be incredible. As The Grand Panjandrum notes, they did the same damn thing with the Stimulus.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Hell, Grassley was babbling for the cameras about “pulling the plug on Grandma” and they all pretended not to notice.
But did you hear Joe Biden said a swear?
mr. whipple
That’s right. Is everyone still so sure financial reform and immigration reform are sure winners for Democrats?
DougL (frmrly: Conservatively Liberal)
Remember, our liberal media is only as liberal as their conservative owners are. They have nothing to lose by lying, not as long as we have conservative owners controlling the airwaves.

Grassley lies. And the Sun rises in the east. Neither of those are surprising. Or have you forgotten the old joke:
Q: How can you tell when a Republican is lying?
A: His mouth is moving.
Yutsano
It’s really not lying, it looks more like talking out of both sides of his mouth. Which is pretty much just as disgusting. Janus, we hardly knew ye.

There’s just not much to say about this by now that hasn’t already been said. Every damned day some Republican asshole does something like this, and almost nobody in the press will say anything about it–at least nobody who’s seen as a big player.
It depresses me that the awfulness of the press is such a humdrum, dull kind of thing that it hardly seems worth remarking on.
burnspbesq
Grassley’s statements are fully consistent with – in fact they are sterling examples of – the Correct Way of Mark Levin Thought.

@burnspbesq:
We shall never speak of this again.
Oscar Leroy
Ah yes, Public Enemy Number one, the media. They are the problem, not wimp Democrats who keep reaching across the aisle to bad faith actors.

@Oscar Leroy:
Since when is the country not allowed to have more than one problem?
Mike Kay
@Oscar Leroy: how dare you malign Dr Chomsky’s critique on the corporate media, you fascist!
PaulW
If Grassley is lying, charge him. He’s violating his oath of office.
RalfW
Holy crap-cakes, Batman!
Ahhhh, shoot, it’s just so pointless to get upset about Republican lies any more, they’re so dime-store cheap.
Mnemosyne
@Dave C:
If you can’t attribute it to Democratic cowardice, it’s not a problem. QED.

If Grassley wants to lie his ass off for the folks back home, I don’t really mind, as long as the policy stands.
If that’s the way to get Republican buy-in, so be it.
RSA
At first I was thinking, “But maybe it’s okay for Grassley to emphasize what he did contribute to the bill, even if he was against the overall package,” but then I realized that to avoid being a hypocrite, he’d always have to qualify his “accomplishment” by saying he’d voted against it, and he’d also have to speak out against other members of his party who are pushing for total repeal. Gee, that’s not happening is it?
balconesfault
Grassley was for healthcare reform before he was against it.
russell
Or, vice versa.

Also, inspired by the Evony ads on this page, I’d like to take a moment to celebrate Boobquake, perhaps the single most enjoyable global protest movement of my lifetime.
Ladies, well done.

Krugman called out some of the more prominent FinReg lies today:
Yeah, it’s most of the post, but it seemed relevant and worth quoting here.
.
Mr Furious
And here I thought this shameless lying post was going to be McConnell declaring that a cloture vote to begin debate on Financial Reform would be “ending” the discussion.
debbie
Actually, the shameless lying quote from McConnell would be about how “we all want to put the screws to Wall Street.”
