Another May Day Tradition

Yesterday, Ken Layne at Wonkette explained why “Massive Pro-Immigration Rallies To Be Ignored Nationwide… “

Immigration-reform rallies will be held in some 80 cities tomorrow, with many thousands of people expected to protest just at Lafayette Square behind the White House. So why will these May Day demonstrations be ignored by the Main Stream Media? There are many good reasons!

__
@ They won’t look as stupid as teabaggers. Lacking tri-corner Olde Hatts and misspelled signs with racist slogans, the somber immigration rallies just don’t make “good teevee” in this era of constant reality freak-show entertainment…
__
[…] __
@ OIL SPILL! If you’re not in DC trying to get a trophy lick off Jay Leno’s sweaty corporate nutsack or knocking over old men in Colonel Sanders’ costumes to get a glance at Gwyneth Paltrow at the Derby, you — as a media professional — will be doing standups along the Gulf Coast somewhere, anywhere, really, with water behind you. The Gulf always looks dirty anyway, so who cares if the shot is off your motel balcony in the Florida Panhandle. That’s the Gulf, right?…

__

One of the Wonkette commentors added: “How much you want to bet that the signs tomorrow will contain better spelling and grammar than the native-born mouth drooler rallies?”

Barring an outbreak of actual journalism, is anyone among the Balloon Juice Commentariat planning to attend their local rallies?

The only TRUE Americans are on reservations or running casinos. At least the Australian government had the good grace to apologize to Australian Aboriginals. Let us ALL remember that at some point in time one of our distant relatives had to be desperate enough to leave the country they came from and come here to face what? “No Irish” signs. Long days and low pay and being looked down upon by the “Real Americans” who themselves were considered to be peasants by the upper class. The main difference between folks from the country club and the trailer park is this. Folks from the country club want something they go to needless markup, Fortunoff, Macy’s or some place in the mall. Folks in the trailer park go to Walmart, K-Mart, Salvation Army Thrift Store, or they borrow what they need. A roll of duct tape can work a world of wonder.

You mean the liberal press won’t cover the protests? I’m shocked to hear this–SHOCKED, I say! And, yeah, I bet the English will be better than it was on the signs of the ‘baggers’ protests.

That’s a pretty low bar to clear.

I’ll be there in spirit, but my marching days are over. I’ve been to dozens and dozens of protests and marches in my 50+ years.
Now, my ankle and hip don’t allow me to walk more than a few hundred yards or stand up for long periods of time. I can’t tell you what this has done to kill my prospects for a decent job, and, since I’m not officially “handicapped,” I’m stuck in my minimum wage job.
And, oh yeah, I agree – the signs will be much better spelled, and more grammatically correct, than the “Tea-bagger’s.”
By the way, how long before the right starts calling supporters of immigration rights, “Beaner-bagger’s,” or something to that effect. You know something like that is coming, now don’t you? If they do, I’ll wear that, or any other, name proudly! Just to spit in their eye!!! We’re all illegal immigrants in the eyes of Native Americans.

    @Lisa K.:

Ever notice that white people are really pink, black people are really brown. And slackers are looked down upon by the people at the country club. The affluent just go down to the mall and shop at Old Navy or Banana Republic, Macy’s and Nordtroms. The slackers have to make do with Walmart, Dollar Tree, The Salvation Army Thrift Store. Give a Buffy @ the country club a roll of duct tape and she won’t know what to do with it. Give a slacker a roll of duct tape a bunch of pvc pipe and a hacksaw and tell him what you want. Give him a dime bag and by the time your friend at the country club gets done playing a round of golf – Slacker Bob will have slapped together whatever you wanted him to. Hell if the professor on Gilligan’s Island could work with coconuts, bamboo and palm fronds a slacker with duct tape and pvc pipe should be able to cope. They keep on trying to keep the slack man down. Also Rush Hudson Limbaugh III just has a substandard lack of empathy not to mention an Oscar Meyer wiener whistle for a brain.

I know it’s hard to keep what you’re feeling to yourself – THEY don’t want to hear anything that goes against their FOX/CHURCH programming. Logic escapes them. Hang in there

Oh come on, you know because of their heavy accents that those signs will be misspelled.

Maybe they should roast a life like image of Obama made from corn to get attention. but brown people are always complaining about something so yawn. right?

And I should feel sorry for reporters who say the WH is not giving them access why? When they have it, what do they do with it?

Yo yo yo, trivia experts: what U.N. country hasn’t 1) wiped out its abo population, 2) driven its abos to the ass end of its territory at spearpoint, or 3) had its abos wiped out in detail and replaced with heavily armed invaders, who’ve come to be identified as “natives” over the centuries? I’m really curious. There has to be at least one example. Right?

Anyway, the difference between pioneers and conquistadors is that the conquistadors fucked the Indians before they killed them. Harsh but true. Show me a Spanish-speaking veterano with an Aztec themed tattoo and I’ll show you a white-trash Confederate foot soldier with a roaring case of malnutrition and not one slave to his name. Truly, history will teach us nothing.

Wait, I’m like, duh. New Zealand. The local man-animals actually had representation in the local House of Proles in the 19th century, which is strange and inexplicable for a Commonwealth country, but nevertheless satisfies my snotty dare. Okay. Other examples are still welcome.

“Massive Pro-Immigration Rallies To Be Ignored Nationwide… “

Watched the news this morning to see what the weather was going to do. Local news (NBC affiliate) mentioned the local protest march and gave the info for the local one. Then the Today Show came on. They mentioned them, with footage from previous marches. At the half hour break, the local affiliate put up information on the local march again: time, location, etc.

No idea if they’ll show footage of the local march on the local news tonight, but I’m betting they will. We have a large Latino population here and the local media doesn’t usually ignore things of this nature. They’ve covered them in previous years.

No, I’m not planning to go. I’ve got a lot of other things I’ve got to do today. In previous years they marched right in front of my house! That was kind of cool.

Of course they’re going to be ignored. The people in these rallies are too calm and dignified, and they’re only looking for the opportunities that everyone who has come here for 400 years has had. What’s the fun in that?

Now the freakshow rallies with old people on medicare and social security demanding the government stay out of their lives, the totally not racist signs depicting Obama with a bone through his nose, the waving of a flag of treason to demonstrate patriotism, and of course the creatively spelled signs….now THAT is something worth watching, if only to gawk.

Hell the march against Wall Street was ignored on Thursday, but I bet Fox coves it with the meme that the Brown Invasion against America. O Reilly will bring out the illegal alien criminal theme again. And Mr Stein will have his hurt feelings messaged by Hannity, after that brutal whipping from Rachel Maddow.

Going down for the rally later today at the State Capitol complex right here at current-ground zero for immigration – Phoenix, AZ. Was at a pretty large demonstration there a couple years ago on the same topic, and I stuck out like a sore thumb, what with being a grey-haired old white dude and all (here on my Snobsdale cu-de-sac I’m considered a race traitor).

I expect this time the crowd will be a bit more diverse, but I’m sure I’ll still be in the minority. Most of my fellow- Caucasians in the lovely Valley of the Sun are Republican, racist (but I repeat myself) and proud of it. That’s why Sheriff Arpaio and this despicable new anti-Hispanic law enjoy such overwhelming support in these parts.

Should be interesting, and I’ll bet this one at least gets some attention (no doubt most of the others around the country won’t get near the media exposure that the far smaller teabagger rallies have gotten).

@Boney Baloney: The white immigrants got all gooey over the MAori’s warrior spirit/culture. That’s why they do the haka before Rugby matches. And the British government did a good job of screwing the Maori between about 1840 and 1890
