Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Books are my comfort food!

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Here is something positive- I had the pictures I showed you a couple weeks ago professionally framed, and they came back and look absolutely beautiful:

You’ll have to click on the pictures- the colors are just so vivid and wonderful.

Awesome photos, jc. professional framing is an art that doesn’t get enough credit.

Oh that was funny. I had too many windows open and for about a minute I was wondering how Krugman had ended up with John’s cat blanket.

Apparently, Fox News is the network of choice for the Kardashian family, according to one of the daughters, Kim. (Is she the one who dated Reggie Bush?) Why? Because it’s reputable, she says.

I think that says it all. Oh well, at least she’s hot.

Michael Pollan’s Botany of Desire is on PBS right now. Fascinating stuff, but I had to walk away because the part about cannabis pissed me off. The plant has been used by humans longer than alcohol, but became illegal during the 1920’s in this country because teh Mexicans used it. The path between stupidity, racism, and shooting corgis in front of children is a short one.

How are you all doing this evening?

@Rob in Dayton: That throw is to protect the couch. You did notice the pet pad and the doggie bed. Personally, I prefer the throw over plastic.

I have to agree. Just a splendid framing job for splendid photo’s. My ordered Miter saw is arriving Friday and I will be diving into to hand making pic frames from baseboard trim scraps I buy at Galbreath lumber for 10 cents apiece.

I guess I’m just such a longterm pet person that the first thing I noticed was the really nice animal beds behind the pictures.

Your new pics are just beautiful, John. They certainly reflect your great appreciation of living things and quest for true serenity. It’s easy to imagine the wonderfulness of a household that has Tunch and Lily and You walking around, and these gorgeous pictures on the wall.

Beware of Greeks bearing grudges. While Congress soft pedals their faux tough questioning of Goldman Sachs biggies, Greeks take it to the streets to protest the EU debt bailout deal. Some of the photos are absolutely gripping.

Britain was given an election wake-up call yesterday as Greece’s battle with massive debt erupted in blood and anarchy. Three bank workers died after a mob protesting against spending cuts set their building ablaze.

Oh yeah, great framed photos. I really wish I had an eye for photography.

    @maus:

Okay, I’ll say something else to change the subject, something that was so sweet, it might put John Cole in a better mood. At least that’s how sweet it appeared to be to me.

Anyway, last week, my sister-in-law told my niece, Sarah, that she was loved with all of her heart. Sarah responded that while she loved her mom a lot, she had to save some of her heart for the rest of the family.

I thought that was very nice.

This morning, Perfect Tommy suggested a site for getting some technical information on the dispersants BP & gang are using on the oil.

    http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=11283

I went there this evening and am now much smarter than I was. Am I happier? No, not by a long shot! Yuck!

There is no good solution to a river of oil flowing into the ocean, is there?

The photos look good John. I’m glad you went with dark simple frame and white mat – I’m a purist when it comes to framing photos, and that’s the way to do them, IMHO. Very nicely done.

So, now that the NYC bomb suspect is revealed to be the son of a Pakistani air force chief, will the GOP dial down their foaming at the mouth, or will they go all in and insult one of our allies?

Oh, yeah, and how will the Obama Administration deal with supossed confessions that Faisal Shahzad received training from the Taleban in Pakistan?

In Peshawar, senior Pakistani officials told The Times that Mr Shahzad, 30, received explosives training on his last trip to the region at a camp run by Qari Hussain, a known trainer of suicide bombers for the Taleban. Sources also said that the father of two, whose last-known job in the US was as a $50,000 (£33,000) a year financial analyst, was taken to South Waziristan by a lead member of Jaish-e-Mohammed, an al-Qaeda-backed group blamed for a series of recent attacks in Pakistan. …
    …
It was still unclear yesterday where he was born….What is beyond doubt is that he first came to the US in 1998 as 19-year-old student, the son of an air vice-marshal of the Pakistani Air Force, Baharul Haq, who remains well known as the founder of the Sherdils, the country’s leading military aerobatics team.

This is not just the laughable story of a bumbling would-be bomber. Along with the case of the diaper bomber, this is the second example of someone from a “respectable family” becoming radicalized.
