Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Come on, man.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

John Fetterman: Too Manly for Pennsylvania.  Paid for by the Oz for Senator campaign.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Let there be snark.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Pens v. Habs, Game 4. Also, a picture:

I’m also proud to announce that the bird feeders are such a smash hit that I can actually watch the level of seed drop in real time. I had coffee this morning, filled the feeders, went in for another cup an hour later, and one of the feeders had already dropped an inch or more.

Listen, once those birds get used to the feeders, they can be real hogs. What’s more, the little stinkers will sit on the feeder and plow through the pile of seeds to find their favorite ones, shoveling seeds onto the ground by the bucketful for other birds — not to mention lard-butt squirrels — to vacuum up. But it’s a hoot, and the cost of the birdseed is worth it.

That’s the thing with bird feeders, John; build them and they will come. We are in 3rd season with ours (“cage” with suet blocks) and some days the birds are queing up on the shephard’s crook, trees and phone line to get their chance. We put up a hummingbird feeder in mid-season last year, and will patiently wait for the little rascals to “discover it’s there.

Yes, SIA, it is one of life’s pleasures.

Comrade Luke, the only thing I can say is ‘patience’. Not much help, but I guess that’s the way it is with some things.

It’s fun to watch which birds don’t come to the feeder. Sparrows of every kind, blue jays (of course), but the rufus sided towhees only feed from the ground below. And the tiny finches never come, but live out in the blackberries.

I have this wide clay cistern on a pedestal that holds two gallons of water near the bird seed, and I’m surprised how much I like it.

Birds love the water, they drink and splash all day long. When they don’t happen to be around the aesthetic of still water and reflection is remarkable for such a small surface area.

I have to replace the water every other day, no big. Nice.

In the meantime, glad you’re enjoying the joys of bird watching at home. It’s one of the unforseen bonuses we discovered when we moved here.
