There is no way in hell I am going to click on that video. I do not want In The Navy stuck in my po’ hayed for the next seven weeks.
Though I fear it may already be too late – I can already hear snippets of the chorus rattling around in there …

@JGabriel: It could be worse. We could start linking ABBA again.

By the way, you do all realize that song is probably where the GOP picked up the terminology / meme of people being “recruited” into the gay agenda, right?

@Yutsano: Abba, in fact, would be better, not worse.
Barry Manilow or Air Supply, though. That would be worse.
i think the idea that teh gay was “contageous” probably goes way back. i mean its really the notion that a straight person has to oppose gay people otherwise they themselves or others they identify with might become gay….i’m guessing the closeted, or tendency-holder, straight guy who fears being recruited/outed goes way back.
viking fans can’t say they didn’t know what they were getting from grandpa favre. of course steeler nation has its own issues, we are holding on by a string, i miss boring off-seasons.
@fucen tarmal: I know. I hate the guy. I hate the fact that the local government is seriously considering financing a stadium for the Vikes. I really wish I didn’t care for sports.
make peace with the fact that the new stadium will happen, it is welfare, and in the broader context called reality, its totally bullshit. the teams, in theory have absolutely no reason to need the handout, but its the cost of having a team, which does have benefits beyond rooting for them. teams bring money, exposure all that “soft” bs.
to a large and growing corporate sponsor community, it is a billboard that says your town is still there, and with the people it brings in to town, its revenue for people who sell food and everything else…
btw we have had an extra penny sales tax here that the rest of the state doesn’t pay, so i have been through the whole gamut, it sucks but its necessary. even though it sucks that it is necessary…
@fucen tarmal: They don’t actually help the community as much as they profess, though. There have been studies on the efficacy of a new stadium boosting the economy, and the news is not rosy, especially for teams that don’t put out a quality product. And, we just paid for two stadiums last year while Ratface Pawlenty used unallotment to basically cripple our social safety net. The Metrodome was built fifteen years ago. Seventy percent of Minnesotans were against giving money to build the new Twins stadium. I would bet the same percentage is against giving money to the Vikes, especially as they are now the sole inhabitants of the ‘Dome.
The cost is too high, especially as our teams will never spend the money needed to be a championship team–OK, maybe the Vikes will, but the Twins certainly never will. It may be inevitable, but I plan on protesting every step of the way, especially this year. It’s morally offensive.

iirc, some bright bulb in navy recruiting wanted to use that song for navy recruiting… until someone explained just who the village people were.
There were plenty of times that Henson and company were trying to get crap past the radar. I don’t think this was one of them – just rich Muppety goodness here…
