Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

The willow is too close to the house.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

When we show up, we win.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

A quick picture of the garden:

Mostly tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, and broccoli in that shot, because let’s face it- little bean and pea sprouts aren’t all that photogenic.

And here is a picture of the ferocious guard dog watching my front yard while I relax on the porch:

No one gets by without a very stern barking.

Lily! She looks fierce in her striped collar. I’m sure you’re very well protected.

Your garden looks great. With the heatwave you’re having, you’ll definitely have to keep it watered.

I don’t know if this will interest too many of y’all, but I wrote a post which includes a discussion of politics, contemporary poetry, The Boondocks, Barack Obama, and a poem by E. E. Cummings. It wanders a little. I suppose a link would help.

What a fine, alert, happy dog she is! It’s almost impossible to realise that’s the same hurting, cowering, timid little girl who stole your heart nearly a year ago. Lucky Lily, and lucky John.

    P.S. Garden looks good, too.

    @SiubhanDuinne:
Yeah, she’s really filled out and looks so happy and healthy. She looks nothing like the sad, scared dog of last year. You did a wonderful thing, John Cole.

Hurrah for Lily! What a difference a year makes. Healthy, happy cats and dogs are a very good thing. And the garden looks excellent as well.

No new “Treme” tonight but there is a new “Breaking Bad.”

Did anyone watch the HBO movie last night about Bill Clinton and Tony Blair’s relationship? Pretty good. The last clip with Dubya and Blair at a news conference after Bush was awarded the 2000 election made me wretch. Still hard to believe a dumbass like that was ever POTUS.

Here’s a sample of today’s Bobblespeak Translations (hope nobody else has posted yet):

Gregory: when will we learn that your next effort has failed?

Dudley: we should confirm our next failure in about seven days

Gregory: how much oil are you spilling into the Gulf?

Dudley: somewhere between A Motherfucking Lot and a Giant Shitload

    Gregory: why so slow?

Dudley: we don’t want to make things worse

Gregory: worse? How could things be worse?

Dudley: our next move will crack the earth’s crust and unleash the minions of satan from the depths of hell

Gregory: it seems you are incompetent idiots who ruined America and had no plan at all

Dudley: no we had a plan to deny everything – it worked great until the oil washed up on shore

Gregory: did you lie to everyone

Dudley: look we’re frustrated too – did you know oil is very slippery?!?

    Gregory: I did actually

Dudley: ooh look at the big brain on Greggers

Gregory: should BP CEO Tony Heyward resign for destroying his company and a regional economy

Dudley: Tony Heyward is doing an awesome job dodging responsibility for wrecking thousands of lives

    It’s all at http://www.moonshinepatriot.blogspot.com.

Of course Lily gives them a stern barking/talking to. How dare they walk like that right in front of her and her territory. Do they think this is some kind of public sidewalk?

I’ve been thinking of trying this system instead of individual stakes. Not that I have so many tomatoes, but tying them individually as opposed to weaving a whole row at once, as needed by height, seems more like something that might get done (because there is always too much gardening to do in the summer so something’s always behind).

I’m truly beginning to hate the Dems who live in NOLA. Carville was bitching about NO being abused by bigguv & their shoddy work ever since the 1950’s this a.m. Before the black Jimmy Carter was even friggn born. Brazile says big gov has always mistreated them & does not understand how hurt they both are. Does the prez have to be a psychiatrist-in-chief also? If so, I certainly wish they would medicate some of these folks.

Can’t even watch any news anymore on the weekend because someone from NOLA is on there whining about how the usurper has failed them today.

I think Noonan was probably right. It’s over for O.

    Okay,

I’m watching the Wiz on some random channel, and is it bad if I say that I love the Wiz, can’t stand the Wizard of Oz.

It’s probably cultural, but I can remember watching The Wiz on TV with my mom. To my young mind and still now, The Wiz just had much better songs than The Wizard of Oz. I mean, I like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, but how can it compare to
Home (this is the Stephanie Mills version, but still the song is great)
    Mean Ole Lion
    Ease on Down The Road
    Brand New Day

And let’s be honest, The Wiz definitely had more soul than the Wizard of Oz.

Watchful Lily is watchful. Has it not even been a year yet? It’s amazing the difference that can be made in a dog in such a short time, given love and patience, isn’t it?

Next year, I will have a small vegetable garden, and I am greatly looking forward to it. I’ll have to coordinate something with my MIL, though, because she puts in a HUGE garden, and already shares the bounty with us. So I’ll probably grow stuff that she doesn’t grow, or doesn’t have luck with, like peppers, asparagus, parsnips, garlic, and winter squash.

SamKitten is growing his two upper lateral incisors at the same time. He will look like the world’s tiniest vampire, if those central incisors don’t make an appearance soon.

See, I see all of these adorable pictures of SamKitten and think, “Hm, he is awfully cute. It would be cool to grow our own person from scratch. Maybe we could manage one …”

And then the kid next door starts his twice-daily screaming tantrum and I wonder how long it would take to get my tubes tied so I won’t even be tempted anymore.

    It’s a dilemma.

Well, the guard dog looks alert, well displined and ready to obey it’s master’s command. Someone needs to be alert to protect the crops. On the other hand, where’s Tunch, patrolling the ‘back 40’?
