Cole, emopants are so two thousand late.
Somewhere, Michael J. Fox is having a facepalm moment.

On ‘Masterpiece Classics’ there’s the latest version of ‘Emma.’
Thank you, my local PBS station, for not having ‘Celtic Thunder’ or ‘Change your Brain with Dr. Amen’ for the umpteenth time. Beg-A-Thon time again.
Pooh
Treme is the Mardi Gras episode, so yes, new.

I’m afraid I read that first line as “I just pooped” and I thought —woah! JC is really getting comfortable sharing with us.

I’ve just pooped too!

Glad I wasn’t the only one.

Should be a new Treme. Apparently the NBA finals are persona non grata around here but the anti “hip-hop” crowd should be happy because hockey is on too. Not much action surrounding the anniversary of D-Day anywhere today.
Chat Noir
@Pooh: And only two more episodes left after tonight. Great show. Khandi Alexander is fabulous.

My schedule shows some other program. Maybe it’s wrong. The new version of ‘Emma’ is great. Johnny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley. Mmmmm.

Someone sent this to me, and I just had to share it.
A little ole school Hip hop for ya’ll who like that sort of thing.
Dedicated to Nicolas Cage for all those crappy movies with all those bad azz toupee’s; to Liam Niaason for the upcoming A-team movie and for Class of the Titans; for Pierce Bronson for playing a centaur in some lame kids movie, and Elton John for performing at the Limpballs wedding:

What are Lily and Tunch doing tonight?
Did Lily like her hamburger?
Sure would like to pet that cutie.
Oh, and Tunch, too. OWW!

@lamh32: One song, one million for Elton John, what a shame.

@efgoldman: Be proud of your like for Law and Order. First, it is the best TV show for business travel ever (you can start in the middle of an episode and still be okay). Second, it keeps Broadway running by employing stage actors.

I’m going to watch one of the Chuck episodes that have been piling up on my DVR. I haven’t been able to keep up with TV this spring.

No celebration of this day’s importance to history?
It was the dark of the moon on the 6th of June

@demo woman:
well personally I think Elton is a genius, ripping off Limbaugh for a cool mil for one song. I should imagine that Elton is a little like my boss when he gets a client in with a really lousy or whatever case he tells them so, then when they insist that they really do have the best lawsuit in the world he says “okay pay me $10,000.00 and I will take the case” I should imagine Elton was the same “will you play at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding?” “yeah right, only if he pays me 1 million per song” I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Elton didn’t give the 1 million to some favorite liberal leftist communist charity just to piss off Limbaugh post wedding.

A new Treme but I’ll be catching that OnDemand in favor of Next Food Network Star, I’m slighly ashamed to say. And on that note, having 20 garlic chicken with wild rice and fresh green beans in a roasted garlic, white wine, and butter sauce. Simple but scrumptious.

Alert Jamie Lee Curtis!

Question guys, I just heard this new song by Jay-Z, it’s obviously sampled from another song, and I can’t find the name of the song it’s sampled from. I’m a hip/hop/r&b kinda girl, and this song is not in my registry, but if it is, I like it.
Anyway, does anyone know what song is sampled:
Forever Young
BTW, the dude singing sounds so much like Sting, so I assumed it’s a Sting song right?
MikeJ
@lamh32: Alphaville
arguingwithsignposts
@lamh32:
That doesn’t sound like any Sting song I’ve ever heard. I can’t tell which part you think is sampled, the keyboard part, or that occasional 3-note hit.
ETA: And there you go. I would have never gotten that one. And yeah, that guy does sound very Sting-like.
ETA2: The Alphaville song is also named Forever Young, lol, and the guy singing sounds like the guy in the Jay-Z video.

@QuaintIrene:
You can always tell when its happening, they start running a “best of PBS – athon” with big band, 50 rock-n-roll and that sort of crap tossed in. They did rerun Ken Burn’s Civil War which I have not seen since its first run so I actually appreciated seeing it.
@stuckinred:
The Military Channel is rerunning “The World at War” which I think is about the best documentary on WWII by far. Tonight they have D-Day episode. That is followed by a Special on Normandy.

The real snarky thing for Elton John to do would be to give the money to some pro-gay marriage group or some group like Move On. I was just watching Ari Fleishcher whine about Helen Thomas. Hate…wahhh… anti-semitism…wouldn’t be acceptable to any other group…wahhh….racism…. wahhh. Don Lemon never talked to Ari about kicking Helen Thomas off her seat in the press room. Never asked Ari about the anti-muslim crap that the Bush administration was happy not to criticize. Ari takes a cheap shot at Helen Thomas being a Yasser Arafat supporter. I seriously just need to stop watching news. Heard the replay of Faux News Sunday where Chris Wallace couldn’t find a way to phrase any question except “when did Obama stop screwing up in the gulf?”
BTW did you have a cupcake for Lily for her adoptabirthday?
stuckinred
@frankdawg: Cool, I have the DVD set but it’s good to know.

Stanley Cup. Oh, it doesn’t count unless pittsburgh is in it. I see.

@MikeJ: \
thx, MikeJ. just searched on wikipedia.
I like their original version as well as the Jay-Z version.
Looks like I’m gonna have another song on my IPod that my peeps will look at me strange when I play it along with my hip hop tracks, hootie and the blowfish, goo goo dolls, ludacris et al…lol!
I’ve got an eclectic music collection.
NobodySpecial
@lamh32:
The singer is Mr. Hudson, but the song itself is ‘Forever Young’ by Alphaville, from 1984.
EDIT – and of course, in getting distracted listening to the song again, I’m like the third or fourth poster. Sigh.

It was very humid in NYC today, with storms in the forecast. The weather has broken and now it’s windy and cool. Humidity is way down and I can open all the windows. I may eat dinner out on the terrace in the fading light. It is nice.

Yeah, I’m tired. Not quite up to aimie’s level, but still. Took a third reading to not see that as “gue… lakers” and I’m thinking ‘Ewww! All droolie and slimey and crap’. Yeah, really tired.

@NobodySpecial:
yeah, i’m pretty quick with the typing, but some of ya’ll on the intertubes are too fast for me…LOL
thx though.
I hear on getting distracted listening to the song. I like it.

Just got done watching a stream of Them Crooked Vultures live in Germany. It was fucking amazing. Didn’t think to post it here in case anyone wanted to check it out!

So I saw Prince of Persia yesterday.
I had no plans to see PoP. Unlike Lara Croft Tomb Raider, I had actually never played the video game or even really heard of the game. But my sister and I had decided to see 2 movies in one day. Sherek Forever (3D) was first, and PoP was the only thing that fit in the correct timeslot, and my youngest sister wanted to see it.
So we saw PoP, besides, I figured it couldn’t be as bad as Max Payne (let’s just say that the trailer was much better than the actual movie! If there is 7 levels of hell, then they will all have Max Payne on a continuous loop) Compared to that, PoP was not half bad.
The plotline was pretty predicitable, the twist and turns, Stevie Wonder could basically see from a mile away. Still, the action sequences were pretty good and well-executated (but that kinda what you expect from a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, i.e. Bad Boys, Pirates of the Carribean, Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Con Air, The Rock, Armageddon, etc…).
Pros: action sequences were pretty good, the actual “sands of time” effect was pretty good, supporting cast pretty good, especially Alfred Molina and this Black dude who I can’t name, there was enough action/adventure humorous banter was fast-paced enough to keep you interested. jake gyllenhaal’s body was pretty banging, you could see that he had bulked up for the role.
cons: predictable storyline. I was literally, not surprised by much that occurred in the movie. I’m not sure if I really felt the chemisty between jake and the lady (but it wasn’t bad as Ellen Degeneres and Bill Pullman playing a couple in that Mr Wrong movie she did). Also, jake was supposed to be a Persian prince, but he had blue eyes and he and everyone had a British accent? Still, it’s not like they would have American accents or really bad British one like Kevin Costner in “Robin Hood”, still I was a continuity thing for the history geek in me.
Still, it wasn’t bad. It was def a good way to pass the time on a hot Saturday evening. The action was pretty sharp, the banter was okay, and I wasn’t completely bored by the halfway mark.
So:
Plotline: B- (only cause, you’ve seen it before, and their was nothing really new to it, boy meets girl, girl hates boy, boy finds girl obnoxious, boy saves girl or girl saves boy or boy/girl “stare into each others’ eyes”…whatever)
Action: B+, not an A only cause it’s a Brukheimer film, and you should expect the action sequences to be pretty good.
Overall: B. Not bad, not great, not really even particularly memorable once you’ve seen it, not really something you go back to see again. I would recommend it if your first choice was not available for some reason, but you still wanted to see a movie to pass the time.
Special mention: Alfred Molina was great in this. He was funny, and had some of the best lines (although, many of them involved taxes and the government, and the government “giving it” to the small business man, a little too teabaggery for me, but I’m in Texas, so it played well, and Molina delivered the lines well)

I, too, am exhausted. I’m thinking of riding in the Tour de Cure in August, so I’ve been putting in extra miles and there is not a body part that doesn’t hurt right now.
I don’t know if our friend Yutsano posted this for you guys, but he sent me a delicious recipe which I gladly posted:
Foolproof Mushroom Risotto
If anyone else wants to share recipes, send them my way and I’ll post them. It takes a village, or some such.

I thought Max Payne was bad, but not “playing on TV in Hell” bad. Transformers 2, on the other hand…

I know this is not a serious-news thread, but holy crap! You know who is anti-semitic now? A bunch of top Israeli Navy reserve officers. In an open letter to Netanyahu and the IDF Chief of Staff, they denounced the flotilla fiasco and the government’s attempts to blame everything on the activists, and call for an external probe.
Violet
@Citizen_X:
Wow. Didn’t expect that. Who would have thought that Israeli Navy Reserve Officers would be such self-loathing Jews.

We’ve had thunder and lightning here two nights in a row, and it’s been raining pretty much nonstop. I’m going to have to download plans for an ark, if this keeps up.
In other news, SamKitten decided that his fun new thing is going up stairs. That would be our 14-step staircase. At the bottom of which is a ceramic tile floor. And when I put the gate up to thwart him, he gives me that “You can’t really be serious about this, can you, food-providing lady?” look.
So, I went up the stairs behind him. We did this about seven times this afternoon. At least we’re both getting our exercise, which is good, as I’ve recently joined the Y and am tired of having 60-year-olds totally outdo me in the boot camp classes.
Bad Horse's Filly
@RedKitten: Uh, oh. I guess we should have known from his bouncing chair escapades that this little boy is built for adventure. What do you think, star hockey player or downhill racer? Maybe he’ll take up skydiving in between NASCAR races.
RedKitten
Hockey’s too expensive, so it’ll probably be downhill racer, as we do have a ski hill about 20 minutes away from us.
It’s karma. I went to get my pilot’s license when I was 17, which I’m sure gave my mother plenty of sleepless nights. This is the universe’s revenge.

If you lived in SoCal in the early 1980s, you may be interested to know that a recording of the legendary Plimsouls Halloween 1981 Whisky show has been released (on vinyl, no less). Awesomeness.

@lamh32: I love that song. In fact, hearing the Jay-Z version a few days ago reminded me of how much I loved it. And (to link everything on the internets), a few nights ago, here on BJ, late-night edition, we were swapping PS22 Chorus vids–one of which is Forever Young.
And, I didn’t hear that about Elton John. I sincerely hope he does donate the money to a gay-marriage organization or some such.
