Amen. I hate the French.

Er…their soccer team, anyway. Not to sound all Republicany.

So very spiteful–are you a Philly fan too?
I’m hoping this is the moment when enterprising sides finally hit the gas pedal. Enough of this trying not to lose timidity!

Don’t you want Mexico to destroy Uruguay, so that South Africa can destroy France and advance?
Punchy
Vegas has a tie as the overwhelming likely outcome. Never seen that before….usually a tie pays at least 2-1. Here, it’s less than even money. Are both teams simply going to play a 1-9 formation and be happy with a push?
Didn’t Uruguay score 3 goals in their last game? Confident they’ll walk over the Mexys and grab the sure bid.

I’m really hoping Mexico do well for a variety of reasons, but not least because the guys working on my house are taking the morning off to watch the match. If Mexico does poorly, I hesitate to think how little is going to get done this afternoon. They were seriously excited about this match.

Uruguay’s playing a 4-3-3 with three strikers… they’re going for the win, not the tie. Bastards.

Blanco down showing his professional skill. He has the skill of a Brazilian in the embellishment category.

@Anton Sirius:
Interesting… I was just about to post that, according to the ESPN Gamecast, both Uruguay and Mexico were playing with only one striker… so I guess that means Gamecast isn’t that accurate.

These teams are both playing like they REALLY don’t want to play Argentina. Attacking play everywhere.
wengler
It’s looking a bit more like they are playing for the draw now. The French imploding might have something to do with that.

@Violet:
If Mexico does poorly, I’d give them the rest of the day off. I’d be concerned about the quality of the work being done by morose and distracted workers.

Uruguay giving South Africa life support…

South Africa needs two more goals to eliminate Mexico

@burnspbesq:
Yeah, I’ll ask them if they want the day off. Unfortunately, they speak mostly Spanish and my Spanish isn’t all that good. I deal mostly with their boss, the owner of the business, and he’ll be the one to give them the day off. I’ll be sure to let him know it’s fine with me, but I can’t really order him to tell them to stay away. He may have scheduled them for other work later in the week and need to finish my house now.

Most of the second half was played like both teams were okay with a draw. Mexico looked to be protecting goal differential in case SA got a lucky goal or two, and Uruguay looked happy to win the group and avoid Argentina.
Should we be taking Uruguay seriously as a finals contender? Randy Paul said Uruguay’s goalkeeping was a weakness and the defense was only adequate, but they didn’t concede a goal during group play. And, of course, the attacking pair of Forlan and Suarez looks as good as or better than any in the Cup. They have to be favored to make the quarters, at least.
