Well, if anyone wants a good laugh, Media Matters has a great takedown of one Andrew Breitbart’s contributors on BigGovernment. Fucking hilarious.

Not that it’s surprising, but the thing that bugged me about the vote was this:

One Democrat, Nebraska’s Ben Nelson, broke ranks and voted with the minority, while five Republicans — Collins, Graham, Gregg, Lugar, and Snowe — voted in support of confirmation.

Nelson is rapidly entering Lieberman territory. Is there any more worthless individual in the Senate with a D beside their name?

I mean, why the fuck is this piece of shit even a Democrat? He doesn’t seem to actually support any part of the Democratic agenda. Shall we list off the number of ways he’s fucked us in the last few years?

I can’t predict with certainty what the GOP response to the confirmation will be, but I’m going to go out on a limb and declare that it will involve an increase in their stupidity and anger.

@Xecky Gilchrist: That’s not going out on a limb. Going out on a limb would be stating that they’re going to be civil. Then again, maybe that would be more delusional.

There’s no way too be cynical anymore .

@Catsy: He’s fucked us less than even the most liberal Republican. Sure he voted against Kagan, but his vote wasn’t needed.

I’m not happy with him, but I’d be less happy even with Hagel who I generally like a fair bit, but who would be a far bigger procedural obstacle than Nelson has even been.

Since this is an open thread…

I have a question on usage of terms in Islam, for work. Would any Muslim commenter be available to contact me at e-mail northwester at aol.com (don’t sneer! I’m old) to help?

    Much appreciated!

He’s fucked us less than even the most liberal Republican.

A description which appears in the encyclopedia under “damning with faint praise”.

Seriously, it seems like anytime I hear that some conservative “Democrat” in the Senate is helping the Republicans be obstructionist, Nelson’s name comes up among the guilty parties.

Anyone else see this at TPM via Atrios:
Source: Debt Commission Fights Over Freezing Military Pay, Slashing Benefits
I would quote it all because it’s all so fucking good but here’s a taste:

early reports indicate that the GOP’s unwillingness to support any significant tax increases are pushing the group toward proposed entitlement slashes and larger budget cuts.

The source said that different members of the commission come down on different sides of the issue. The discussion group is led by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), whose primary aim is trimming fat on the contractor side, but, according to the source, David Cote, the Honeywell CEO who was appointed to the panel by President Obama, is pushing to find savings elsewhere.

According to the source, Cote and other members, including the commission’s co-chair Alan Simpson, are focusing instead on “freezing military pay, making military people pay for their health care.”

House Democrats have committed to voting up or down on the package if the Senate passes it first.

@Svensker: I’m not enough of an expert myself to provide reliable advice. The only other Muslim who comments here (that I know of) is matoko chan, and I have no idea about her expertise.

Me, I’d rather consult someone who can speak authoritatively, rather than a layman — which is likely what you’d get if you asked a fellow commenter. Have you tried an Islamic center near you? If your query is not too abstruse for them, e.g. if it relates to a matter of everyday practice, they should be able to help you right away.

    @Amir_Khalid:

Good point. It is everyday practice, so maybe I’ll see if there’s a center near me.

Test to see if I broke this thread by submitting a post with curly braces in it. ETA: guess not. Let’s try again:

    ==================================
Since this is an open thread, I thought I’d share some wingnuts’ comments on Kagan’s confirmation from — well, wanna guess where?

    ————————————

Another dark day in our history. Obozo will take us all to our needs.

the day is coming when all you progressives and soc ialist will be rounded up and disposed of properly !!!!!!!!!!

Did we not learn ANYTHING from the fall of ROME !!!

sad day. This is why I have a drinking problem… days like yesterday and today make it worse. What happened to the America I grew up with. The one where people had pride and worked hard for what they got. People who would go without than go for the quick fix, or hand out… Half the people in office sissy-mary’s all of them, There is no work ethic anymore, it’s how can I get the most with doing the least to earn it….

Say good by to liberty !! Tryanny is here !! Get ready to bend over Obamabots !! You won’t even see it coming !! Grab your cheeks !!

Just in time to overturn voters deciusions in California !

This guy won’t be a very good justice, but he is a lot like the rest of the gays in D.C.

And no, these comments are not from Redstate.

Ok, so, again via Atrios, how bout this:

Christina Romer, chairwoman of Pres. Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, has decided to resign, according to a source familiar with her plans.

I’m finding myself in the strange position of being on Lindsey Graham’s side — not just because he was one of only five Republicans to vote for Kagan, but because that vote immediately attracted the crazies:

As anti-abortion protesters gathered outside the Senate Thursday, a dozen police officers stood poised to make arrests if the activists went too far. Pasting a photograph of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) onto a human-looking figure and putting a noose around its neck was OK, police told protesters. But beating it with a stick they had brought with them was not. For Randall Terry, the longtime anti-abortion activist who led the protest, the goal was to go as far as he possibly could.  “We are trying to be incendiary,” he said. “This country was started by people who did things like this.”
