Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The revolution will be supervised.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Some of us haven’t been in elementary school for decades, and yet the First Week Back still sukks. Especially if (a) you’re trying to do five days’ work in four days; or (b) you only wish somebody was paying you to try that.

(Also, FYWP is dragging its feets for me today, so if I fail to respond in a timely fashion don’t take it personally.)

It still feels funny even when you are laid off (temporary in my case). No work, but still feel that rhythm.

But for some of us of a certain age, there’s an expectation of newness we don’t get anymore. This was the week of not only new classes, but new TV and new clothes. Of course, cable did away with September new season premieres, kids are now starting new school years in August and the clothes are already being worn.

I know I keep flogging this, but the prominence of douche pastor Terry Jones and his hate on Islam has really been bothering me.

Perhaps some of our media guys could ask him and his defenders about his anti-black racist rant from earlier this year – multiple drops of the N-word, even from him.

Since there is finally an open thread, I would like to toss out a question to those who are more electronically adept than I am. Is it possible for a car radio to cease being able to receive signals from certain frequencies? While I was out doing errands today, I was listening to the radio and right in the middle of “A Town Called Malice” by the Jam, the station ceased playing. All other stations but one that I have programed into the car radio work fine. What is weird is that the stations that don’t work are 105.5 and 105.1. Has my radio stopped functioning in the 105 Mhz region?

@Michael: The least he could do is change the church name from “Dove World Outreach Center” to something more appropriate like “Douchebag Outreach Center”.

fyi, John the front page is now loading fine, but the comments page is having the same problem as front page was a bit ago… ie, 1 1/4″ white space at top of page, linked tagline showing up above your balloon juice logo…

on another comment page I was getting an “error establishing database connection” message…

I would be hesitant to bring a big one, lest someone think you might use it as a club. A mini should be ok.

    @Just Some Fuckhead:

I’m just amazed at the number of iterations of the word “ni99er” that Terry and his assholes were comfortable with. Of course, we all know that the highest form of 1st Amendment expression is the sneering use of the term by southern white wingnuts while whining about disappearing white privilege.

Glenn Greenwald announces that he owns seven dogs, all but one of them rescue animals.

I predict a sudden wave of conversion by certain Balloon-Juice Greenwald-haters.

“He’s such a know-nothing idiot who’s in league with Republicans to bring down Obama and writes too much and……ooooh! Look at the wuzzy fwuzzy, what kind is that? So cuuuuute! You know, actually I do agree with a lot of what he writes, especially since he started posting the pet pictures…”

    Update 5: and here’s dog # 5, eating. Update 6: and here’s dog #6, sleeping and looking cute. Update 7: ……

Since 9/11 is coming around again, I have a question for general discussion:

How did an attack on one of America’s most liberal cities by Conservative Muslim Fundamentalists come to be owned by American Conservatives and Christian Fundamentalists?

I live in NY, I’m liberal, yet come 9/11 voices like mine, which are the majority in NYC will be poohed poohed, dismissed, and generally ignored by the media in favor of conservatives like Sarah Palin and Haley Barbour, who don’t live here or in DC and weren’t anywhere near the attacks.

    Why is that?

    There’s your answer right there.
Your liberal media at work, god bless ’em.

ETA: also, too, you left out the part about when some of our homegrown Xtian (so-called) fundamentalists came right out and said that we had it coming because we made God angry at us for not hating on teh Ghey as much as we should have, and nobody in the media made a big deal out of it.

Actually one of my favorite comments post 9/11 came from the ever-wonderful Trent Lott where he admitted that he had never thought of high rises as “homes” before.

One of closest friends had to abandon his Battery Park City apartment for quite some time after 9/11 — Lott’s comment (that I think was made during the ridiculous fight to secure $$ for NYC) ticked him off but good. When Lott lost his home to Katrina I got a one word missive from my pal “KARMA”.
