How long before Joe Lieberman get enraged at his low profile and decides to endorse Joe Miller as a Man of God?
Zifnab
Break out the heavy duty umbrellas. It’s going to be a shit storm.
What’s the over/under on a “Lindsey Graham and Charlie Crist are gay lovers” story before November?
Bnut
OMG, this is gonna be good. How long till the first Graham-Crist gay relationship meme?
NonyNony
Does this mean that Crist has promised Graham that he’ll caucus with the Republicans?
suzanne
Shitloads of graham crackers.

I believe the correct terminology is Trike Farce.

@Zifnab:
Sounds like a movie..
“When Lindsey met Charlie.”
Coming soon to a movie theater near you.
General Stuck
Wonder if Lindsey is making political play to keep Crist in the gop fold if he wins, but Graham will pay a price with the creme de la creme of crazy of the SC teabaggers. They make insane look like tea with queen.
morzer
@General Stuck:
You know, logically Nikki Haley ought to endorse Kendrick Meek, and one of Marco Rubio’s pet bloggers will admit to having had a threesome with her and Lindsay Graham. Isn’t that the South Carolina way?
jibeaux
Blond Ken dolls, if such a thing exists.
It’s got the gay implication, and Rubio = blond.
Okay, it’s too deep. I second shitloads of graham crackers. Wait, does amazon.com sell graham crackers?
mistermix
Welcome to the first step in forming the closeted caucus.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@mistermix: so the Olympia Snowe endorsement is the next one to watch for?
Carl Nyberg
Possibility (probably low probability): What if a wing of the establishment has decided the Tea Party movement is too powerful and independent?
Could it be that Lindsey Graham is part of a plan to ensure the Dems keep control of the Senate? Even if the GOP gets 51 seats, Graham could flip control to the Dems.
It seems weird, but the establishment likes things to stay reasonably calm. They like to be in control.
Is the Tea Party movement something they can control?
Linda Featheringill
@Carl Nyberg:
Interesting. And how many layers of 3-dimensional chess would be involved in this?
Seriously, though, I suspect that Graham is smart enough to carry out such maneuvering. I just don’t know if he is.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: I’m thinking Mitch McConnell

@morzer: Haley is of swarthy heritage and a converted Sikh to baby jeevus worshipper. But is a wingnut, so real gawd fearin” murrican now. So Redstate rode to her rescue for the sake of maintaining her lady like wingnut honour. And Obama is still a usurping furriner with a terrorist name, that wasn’t even born here, and loves muslims and is phony christian. The wheel turns right no matter.
And who knows where Meeks was born. Anybody seen his real birth certificate?
jibeaux
Since when do 50 Dems constitute “control” of the Senate? Sure, Republicans could probably find a way, but 50 Democrats couldn’t control a tricycle.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Carl Nyberg:
I think that’s possible, but if so, this is more LG’s Fuck You to the Tea Baggers and Jim DeMint. If this is an establishment move against the extremists, I would say that makes the idea that Crist had promised to caucus with the GOP even more likely, especially if that FU to DeMint were cemented with some plum committee assignment.

@suzanne: I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

@jibeaux:
Yes. Yes they do.

As much as I do not like Graham I will give him this, more then the vast majority of his caucus he is willing to buck the rank stupidity of the Republican’s base, and he is doing it with full knowledge of what it could lead to for him.
Personally I think he is trying to get Crist to caucus with the Rep.
BTD
I was going to vote for Crist before this.Now it seems the deal is he will caucus with the GOP. Lost my vote.
Rubio we can beat in 6 years. Crist will be difficult to beat.
BenA
@BTD:
I donno… how much more damage will Rubio do than Crist would in six years? I can’t worry about 2016, right now.
ThatLeftTurnInABQ
@Carl Nyberg:
I’d bet money against that happening. Nobody in the GOPer Senate caucus is that suicidal. And I mean that last part literally. The death threats which rolled in would make your hair stand on end, if he pulled a stunt like that. Maybe in a country like Canada or the UK, but not in the United Gun States of America.
NonyNony
@BenA:
Realistically you have to assume party-line votes from either of them on issues that are at all important. If Crist caucuses with Republicans then the party leadership isn’t going to allow him to deviate from the party on anything of importance – they’ll let him vote against things when it doesn’t matter (because they’ve replaced his vote with a conservative Dem vote).
So you have to assume that if they’re caucusing with the GOP they’ll do the same amount of damage. Their votes will be essentially interchangeable on anything important, and anywhere where Crist shows independence will be carefully managed by the GOP leadership to not matter. They’re good at crap like that.
So if Crist is caucusing with the GOP it’s as good as a vote for Rubio to put him in the seat.
Of course, this could all be a ratfuck by Graham to tank Crist’s support among Democrats in Florida. But that would truly be 11-dimensional roulette on his part.
p.a.
Lindsey Graham: SPLITTER!!! (should be sneered/screamed with copious spittle flecks)
Motto of the not-Bachmann not-Teatard Republican Congresscritters:
‘Vote for us, we’re not as crazy…’
or ‘Vote for us, we don’t actually believe our own BS…’
jibeaux
@BTD:
Tent isn’t big enough to let you vote for the actual Democrat in the race, huh?
jibeaux
@NonyNony:
Over $20 for four boxes when Costco apparently has them for $8. Yeppers, that’s definitely what the Trike Force will send.
General Stuck
@BTD: I have seen nothing that states Crist actually sought out Graham’s endorsement, people are free to endorse whoever they want, that is not Crist’s fault. Unless he actually courted Lindsey’s endorsement.
catclub
@ThatLeftTurnInABQ:
“Nobody in the GOPer Senate caucus is that suicidal.”
Um,… I guess 2001 is ancient history. I believe it was Jim Jeffords of Vermont who switched in order to deny control of the senate to the GOP.
…not yet dead.
I agree on the unlikely, but not on the impossible.
Frank
@BTD:
Why do you think Rubio will be any easier to beat in 6 years? By then, he will be an incumbent and incumbents are much harder to beat.
I rather have Crist than Rubio irregardless of who he might be caucusing with. Scott Brown hasn’t voted with the GOP on every vote and I doubt Crist would either. Rubio on the other hand would.
BTD
@jibeaux:
I will vote for the Democrat now. But only because Crist is going to caucus with the GOP (that’s my take on the Graham endorsement.)
Meeks has ZERO chance of winning. None. I was going to vote for Crist because I thought he might make a deal with the Dems. He won’t.
BTD
@Frank:
Crist is already positioned as the “moderate.” Rubio will have a hard time tacking center. Crist will tack right.
Rubio will be easier to beat than Crist.
Look, if Meeks was not in the race, Crist would win by 10 points.
jibeaux
@BTD:
Well, no, of course not.
Frank
@BTD:
Not as an incumbent. You don’t have to believe me. All you have to do is to look at the re-election history of senate incumbents. It is far easier to beat someone in an open election.
Punchy
@Zifnab: I’m not sure “over/under” is the gambling phrase you want here….let’s talk odds instead. I’ll say it’s 1:3 odds that the L3NSAY GRAM 1S A FAGUT story breaks before Columbus day.
KCinDC
Stop the presses! Apparently this todo is all over someone mistaking a months-old press release for something new.
KCinDC
That is, the report is false, and this post needs an update.
BTD
@KCinDC:
Ah.

Question,
At this point, the vote Crist needs are the ones that Meek have correct. Dems and Dem leaning indy’s. He’s not gonna get the hardcore Repub/Tea baggers, Rubio has a lock on those, and I dont’ know much about the Hispanic vote as specific to Florida, but isn’t it likely, since Rubio is a Cuban-American, then he probably will have most of the Hispanic vote right?
So why is it that Crist can’t or won’t just say that he will caucus with Dems if elected. If he did, then I’d bet the Meek voters who are wary of Crist, may be more amenable to him if he says he will caucus with Dems. So why won’t Crist say what he needs to get the votes he needs? It’s obvious from his R to Indy turn, that he will do what he thinks will help him win.
To win, he needs Meeks voters, so why not say that he will caucus with Dems. Personally, I think it’s because he doesn’t really want to caucus with D’s. He’s been a R all his political life right, and he just turned “I” for this election cause Rubio was getting all the hard “R” support.

Lindsey Graham has got to be so relieved he’s not running this year. He would have gotten primaried and very possibly taken out.
Leaving Jim DeMint the senior senator of the Palmetto State lunatic colony.
Which would be a shame as Graham is a moderating force in the GOP, if not a moderate per se.
(Make that “an aggravating moderating force” but he’s often in the intelligent camp on issues — global warming, etc.)
Elizabelle
@KCinDC:
From the Politifact Florida site KC cited.
“The bogus rumor was started by Amanda Terkel, a senior political reporter for the Huffington Post. Shortly after 10 a.m. she posted to her Twitter account “Lindsey Graham endorses Charlie Crist, says he’s ‘exactly what the national Republican Party needs.’ ”
She realized she’d made a mistake within five minutes, but not before her message had been seen and reposted by hundreds of others. She quickly tried to stop the news from spreading, firing off a quick succession of Tweets.
Terkel was looking at an old press release from when Crist was running for Senate as a Republican. The release was sent out on Sept. 8 by Democratic candidate Kendrick Meek’s campaign. The Meek campaign has been resending old Crist releases in recent days to highlight his ties to Republicans.”
grandpajohn
Living in SC I can state with certainty that the primary challenge is already in the works and has been for sometime
grandpajohn
Hmm ok so the story is false, but the odds that Graham is going to be primaried are still very high, the talk has been going on for several months now

@KCinDC:
Do we have to tell Redstate that part?
NonyNony
@KCinDC:
Ah-ha! This makes more sense, since I didn’t see anything about it show up beyond John’s post and I don’t read the Twitter.
For some reason I’m not surprised to see Amanda Terkel’s name attached to this, but I’m not sure why.

God only knows what the Red State Trike Force is going to mail him.
Suntan lotion, if they haven’t written Graham off completely.
Astrolube if they have.
