I’m going to be tired in the AM, but I love a doubleheader on Monday night. If I had my way, there would be a game every night of the week and the leftovers on Sunday afternoon. If there is football on, it is the best thing on tv, without question.
Also, as a Steeler fan, I am obligated to root for the J… E… T… S… JETS JETS JETS!
Wiesman
There is no good excuse to root for the Jets. Not that I have anything against any of the players, I don’t. Their fans, however…
General Stuck
LOL. football fever. you haz it.
Jager
Just as the NBA Championship trophy has already been Fed Exed to the Miami Heat…listening to the asshats on ESPN the Lombardi Trophy should be sent to Woodie Johnson, Rex Ryan and the Jets before the end of tonight’s game. Hype, Hype and more freakin Hype! The Jets got nothin once you get beyond that D Line. If Revis has been working out it would be a miracle, he’s huffing and puffing like Aunt Edith!
j
As a Bears fan I just gotta say “The Lions Was ROBBED!” There is NO WAY that Lovie could be proud of his team.
Jager
@j:
Yeah, that Cutler is the real deal aint he, providing all the fire power the Bears have lacked for years.
El Cid
Anyone point out yet that the previous quarter’s deficit is lower vs same quarter last year?
This would be important except we know all the difference is really going to Obama’s terrorist jihad allies in Kenyonesia.

It ain’t football without pizza! Pizza here! Getcher fresh hot pizza huhyere!

Gonna be rough watching the Ravens lose while listening to Gruden’s way cool laconic drawl.

Meh…Since it’s on ESPN.

@El Cid: No, wish somebody would, hope it helps.
I strongly suspect that out of anger at the unemployment rate, this matchless republic will put in power a party that never has and never will give a shit about the unemployment rate.

@Just Some Fuckhead:
perhaps you should imagine what he would sound like if you were holding his head underwater, with him thrashing about. That worked for me when he left the raiders.
Irony Abounds
John, you really seem like a nice guy and all, but you have the worst taste in sports teams. The Jets can kiss my ass.
4jkb4ia
I suspect that Nadal and Djokovic are going to be over after the Jets game. This is an awful shame because I was looking forward to seeing the new stadium.

As this is tagged as an Open Thread, I will add some news that is entirely unrelated to football:
You remember how Kristof linked to me on Saturday?
Today, Stephen Walt linked to me at Foreign Policy!
In the same sentence as Matt Yglesias and James Fallows !! http://walt.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/09/13/will_harvard_do_the_right_thing
I assume that real bloggers, the kind that are grown up and savvy, don’t run around telling people when the famous and influential link to them. But I am far from that manner of blogger at this stage.
Whoot!

Housh yo mouth!

As a long suffering Jets fan, I’m surprised at all of the negativity directed at the Jets. A team usually has to win to garner that kind of hatred.
WereBear
@Emily L. Hauser/ellaesther: Woot! You go girl! I am extremely happy for you!
On a similar note, I got a call from a National Geographic producer to talk deep background on my area of expertise.
I’ve been grinning since…

@Corner Stone: =We report you decide

@katherine: Or run their mouths and act like they have won when they haven’t won diddly.

@Emily L. Hauser/ellaesther: That’s awesome. As one of the internet’s premier commenters, I know it’s pretty exciting to get called out.
Amanda in the South Bay
Yesterday I got scared out of my fucking ass by a train. (all observations are about Caltrain and the Mountain View, CA Caltrain station).
I was waiting at a light rail station, about 50 metres away from an idleing commuter train (the lrt station and the commuter rail station are co-located). The idleing train was going southbound, and in the distance I heard another southbound train approaching. I thought, since there was a delay in the system earlier in the evening, the trains were just out of whack and the approaching train would slow down until the idleing train left.
However, the noise and whistle of the approaching train indicated that it was not slowing down. For a very brief moment, I was scared shitless b/c I thought the trains were going to collide-I immediately got behind the cover of part of the lrt station, not believing this was going to happen.
Of course, the SB train was going south on the (normally) NB tracks, so crisis averted! I know trains occasionally do that maneuver, but I was tired after a long day at work and wasn’t thinking properly.
that’s my exciting life for ya.
Midnight Marauder
Is this where we come to talk about how AWESOME the Houston Texans are going to be this year? Because they are, in fact, going to be pretty awesome.
Just Some Fuckhead
@katherine: I don’t get it either. I’m only rooting against them because I’m a Ravens fan.
Emily L. Hauser/ellaesther
@j: Yesterday I happened to be crossing the street from the Millenium Park to the Art Institute, just after the game ended up the street at Soldier Field.
I don’t follow football on any level, but from the looks on everyone’s faces, I assumed the Bears had lost.
It was with real befuddlement this morning that I learned that the opposite was the case!
stuckinred
@Emily L. Hauser/ellaesther: Did you look at yourself in the bean?

@Midnight Marauder: Yes, yes this is indeed that place.

@Jager: Yea and she wore a wedding dress to media day at the superbowl and proposed to Brady. I don’t really give a shit but if you want to play grab-ass don’t be whining about harassment.
Corner Stone
@stuckinred: Not going to get into a debate with you. Especially if you’re going to use a Fox Dallas Fort Worth feed as proof of something where she did nothing but talk to a superstar athlete when he asked her to.
She may or may not have the chops to be the real deal. Not up to me and I do not care.
I’m going to stick with my baseline on this.

I was stating my clear and unabashed desire to actually work for the Village (in the Village?). I realize, however, that if such a thing were to happen (please, God!), I would have to be accepting of my fate at the hands of my BJ overlords.
If you see what I mean.

(Not so very long ago, it was the French Open, and there was relief that Nadal had come back. Now we have the prospect of absolute Nadal dominance and the discussion of Nadal breaking Federer’s record.)

Ugh. If this is the best your Steelers and the (obviously superior) Ravens can do…I wouldn’t look for the AFC North to represent come February.
(yay ravens!)
Loon Juice
Jon is or was on the Jets side because he, like me, is a Steeler fan. Aside from disliking them because they are a tough rival in the Steelers division, it is best for the Steelers that the Ravens lose as much as possible. There’s plenty of reason to choose the Jets over the Ravens, particularly in a season where the Steelers are now playing their eleventh string quarterback.

10-9. ZZzzzzzzzzz.
Until Sanchez establishes himself, the Jets don’t have a high quality QB. And getting rid of Thomas Jones might not have been real smart either. Was Braylon Edwards at this game?
Corner Stone
@Bulworth:
I saw the ball on the ground a few times so I’m pretty sure that’s proof enough he was there at some point.

Tough game. Hard nosed by both sides. I have a great dislike for only one team, hint, they wear purple. I guess I’ll just stick with the only NFL team without an owner.
