Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Republicans in disarray!

“But what about the lurkers?”

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

Football Night in America

I’m going to be tired in the AM, but I love a doubleheader on Monday night. If I had my way, there would be a game every night of the week and the leftovers on Sunday afternoon. If there is football on, it is the best thing on tv, without question.

Also, as a Steeler fan, I am obligated to root for the J… E… T… S… JETS JETS JETS!

There is no good excuse to root for the Jets. Not that I have anything against any of the players, I don’t. Their fans, however…

Just as the NBA Championship trophy has already been Fed Exed to the Miami Heat…listening to the asshats on ESPN the Lombardi Trophy should be sent to Woodie Johnson, Rex Ryan and the Jets before the end of tonight’s game. Hype, Hype and more freakin Hype! The Jets got nothin once you get beyond that D Line. If Revis has been working out it would be a miracle, he’s huffing and puffing like Aunt Edith!

Anyone point out yet that the previous quarter’s deficit is lower vs same quarter last year?

The U.S. government posted a smaller budget deficit in August compared with the same month last year, helped by rising tax receipts.
    __
The , excess of spending over revenue totaled $90.5 billion last monthsmaller than the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News and down 13 percent from $103.6 billion in August 2009, according to a Treasury Department report issued today in Washington. The gap for the fiscal year that started in October was $1.26 trillion compared with $1.37 trillion last year at the same time.

This would be important except we know all the difference is really going to Obama’s terrorist jihad allies in Kenyonesia.

As this is tagged as an Open Thread, I will add some news that is entirely unrelated to football:

You remember how Kristof linked to me on Saturday?

Today, Stephen Walt linked to me at Foreign Policy!

In the same sentence as Matt Yglesias and James Fallows !! http://walt.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/09/13/will_harvard_do_the_right_thing

I assume that real bloggers, the kind that are grown up and savvy, don’t run around telling people when the famous and influential link to them. But I am far from that manner of blogger at this stage.

Yesterday I got scared out of my fucking ass by a train. (all observations are about Caltrain and the Mountain View, CA Caltrain station).

I was waiting at a light rail station, about 50 metres away from an idleing commuter train (the lrt station and the commuter rail station are co-located). The idleing train was going southbound, and in the distance I heard another southbound train approaching. I thought, since there was a delay in the system earlier in the evening, the trains were just out of whack and the approaching train would slow down until the idleing train left.

However, the noise and whistle of the approaching train indicated that it was not slowing down. For a very brief moment, I was scared shitless b/c I thought the trains were going to collide-I immediately got behind the cover of part of the lrt station, not believing this was going to happen.

Of course, the SB train was going south on the (normally) NB tracks, so crisis averted! I know trains occasionally do that maneuver, but I was tired after a long day at work and wasn’t thinking properly.

that’s my exciting life for ya.

Jon is or was on the Jets side because he, like me, is a Steeler fan. Aside from disliking them because they are a tough rival in the Steelers division, it is best for the Steelers that the Ravens lose as much as possible. There’s plenty of reason to choose the Jets over the Ravens, particularly in a season where the Steelers are now playing their eleventh string quarterback.
