My sources tell me that there were long lines at polling places throughout New Hampshire and Delaware today, and I think you all know what that means.
It’s probably too much to ask that both Ovide Lamontagne and Christine O’Donnell win, but we can always hope, right?
I know this is wrong, but I’m at the point where I hope that at least a few of the real teabag crazies win the general and join “the most exclusive club”. Anti-masturbation diatribes delivered from the Senate floor, non-binding resolutions censuring the amero, and best of all, David Broder columns about how serious all these nuts are.
Update. Politico calls the Delaware race for Castle. It is too early to think about a 2012 Castle presidential run?
Update update. O’Diddy up 11 with 37% in. Remember, though, that historically, the more fickle, extremist districts of Delaware report first while the more moderate, bellwether districts report late. Remember what happened there in the ’68 election.
Update #3. I’m too busy mapping out different scenarios on my whiteboard to look into this thoroughly, but this story from hilzoy looks very interesting. Update within an update, screw the whiteboard, this is awesome.
Update: O’Diddy up by 8 with 65% in. This is a good link for Delaware. The clock is Castle’s enemy at this point; this is the time in the game where you just don’t want to turn the ball over.
Update. The O, the D, the I, the D…..one down and one to go, people.

I have never understood what the implied insult is in the term “Obamacare”. Are they somehow inferring that some aspects of healthcare are sullied by being associated with the President? What aspects exactly? Health care coverage for everyone, prohibition of limiting care for prior conditions? What exactly is the type of health care coverage that no one wants?
These folks are the dumbest motherfuckas evah! Ok, ok! You don’t want health care? We will just give them a form to check that they want no healthcare coverage, and no coverage for any condition that they had before. We will make sure that they are the first to be cut from the rolls. @Corner Stone:
yeah, Chris is major concern-trolling, but I get what he was saying. O’Donnell’s “crazy” alone won’t be enough to win alone. Chris was saying don’t underestimate the enthusiasm of O’Donnell’s voters, and compared it to Dem voter enthusiasm which even the left agrees is not high. He of course brought up Reagan, who Dems thought was too “out there” to win, and due to Dem fragmentation and non-enthusiasm, Reagan surfed in on that wave.
Of course, Chris’ inference women were crossing over to vote for Repub women, was total bunk. And that is what I think Rachel really wanted to de-bunk.

In NH the former AG, Kelly Ayotte was endorsed by the establishment GOP and Sarah Palin. Ayotte ran an early campaign based on ambiguity allowing her to pass herself off as moderate or far right. She was considered a shoo-in.
NH lawyer and far right Christian, anti-abortion absolutist Ovide Lamontagne was endorsed by the Manchester Union Leader, the states largest paper, much of the tea-bag right and Sen. DeMint.
Looks like Lamontagne is going to upset the apple cart tonight.

You know, it’s going to suck for everyone if these candidates embed themselves as an inextricable part of the Republican Party. Everyone.
Just something to think about while you’re gloating over how certain you are that the Republicans will dump these people over the side after this election when they lose.
Because what if they don’t? What if even one or two of them don’t? Do you really think they’ll cause the convenient collapse of the Republicans from the inside if they strengthen the crazy-hold from Ron Paul to some actual Senators? They’ll just make the Republicans crazier, and overt race-baiting will be reintroduced into our discourse, full-time.

Oh yes, I forget to include Alaska’s Joe Miller in the national Tea Party slate I listed above.
The vote percentages in NH and DE are so at variance with at least some recent polls that I have to wonder if some Dems quietly crossed over and voted for the extreme teabaggers. Hopefully a blogger newshound will search something out on this.
In the spirit of Lee Atwater ratfucking, I wonder if BJ should start promoting contributions to the mainstream GOP losers like Murkowski, Castle, and Ayotte to encourage them to run as independents and further skew the results.

That Madigan character is somewhat entertaining, but he isn’t nearly as hilarious as the Democratic primary for Comptroller in 2006. It featured the fall from grace (well, not exactly the first) of one of the most storied careers in Baltimore/Maryland politics:
From William Donald Schaefer’s wikipedia page:
The video appears to have disappeared from the Internet; it’s incredible.

JGabriel
@Cain:
No. DE is slightly over 20% black, which means O’Donnell needs over 62% of the white vote, which already leans Dem. Castle was about as far to the right as anyone could be in DE and still win.
.
Cacti
@Cain:
Nothing is certain, of course, but an O’Donnell win has put a seat back into play that Castle gave the GOP an a-typical opportunity to pick up.
Castle was your typical Rockefeller type northeastern Repub, hence the Teabaggers hate for him. He had a lot of good will built up in DE as a former governor, lt. governor, and 9-term Congressman of the State’s lone Congressional District.
In other words, he was perfectly positioned to pick off a Senate seat for the GOP in a state with a Cook PVI rating of D +7.
Instead, he’s been replaced with a candidate far to the right of most of the Delaware electorate and without the good will or capital with voters that Castle brought to the race.
Batocchio
On the one hand, I applaud Madigan for trying to do something at a young age. On the other, he’s an idiot and I’m laughing at that video. Well, maybe he’ll get smarter as he grows older.
db
@DougJ: I think I might be in the minority here on Madigan. I think it is very impressive for him to put himself out there to run for public office.
I don’t think I would say that he is inarticulate. I think he might have a speech impediment. Once you get past that, he sounds more articulate that many of the elected members to Congress.
I really can’t share the sentiment that he’s an idiot. I have to cringe at any comments that call him such or poke fun at him in similar ways. Maybe I am an idiot for thinking that.
