Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When we show up, we win.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

    Okay, since the Elizabeth Warren business has been settled how soon should I expect to see the uptick in the Dem enthusiasm gap that I’ve told will happen once Obama appoints Mrs Warren?

    @lamh32:

    But she wasn’t appointed to be head of the department, merely the person who will create its structure and oversee it, so therefore it’s just like she was never appointed at all!

    Let us now praise famous men:

    Forty-four million people in the United States, or one in seven residents, lived in poverty in 2009, an increase of 4 million from the year before, the Census Bureau reported on Thursday. The poverty rate climbed to 14.3 percent — the highest level since 1994 — from 13.2 percent in 2008. The rise was steepest for children, with one in five residents under 18 living below the official poverty line, the bureau said

    Where is the cultural production – the art, film, poetry, anything – about this?

    No Federal Theatre Project to fund them. What, you thought that the Republicans who spend their days bitching and moaning about the lazy unemployed would actually agree to use government money so actors and writers could get work?

    ETA: Dorothea Lange was hired and paid by the federal government to take her famous pictures of the Dustbowl. Today that would be proof of gubbmint manipulation.

    I will pay for content that I value. It’s worth $12 a year for me to click one button & get a whole batch of mood-improvers to start my day. I am told it would be worth waaaay more than that to those who have to put up with me IRL… :}
