Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

No one could have predicted…

You cannot shame the shameless.

The revolution will be supervised.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Second rate reporter says what?

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Three Hours Left

Pretty much the only thing getting me through today is that there is a new Chuck in three hours. Felt really good this morning when Rosie woke me up at 5:30, and thought I was over this cold, but now I have a sinus headache and feel crappy. At least the congestion is mostly gone.

Think I’m off to have dinner and watch last year’s season finale in preparation.

Holy shit, and here I thought this post was about MNF. Really, a show obstensibly referencing bulemia is better than watching Brees breeze for 400+ and Frenchie Thomas run for 150 plus?

Cole’s full on Metro, if ya ask me. Which no one has.

    This warmed my heart…

At a ceremony to welcome back 483 rehired workers at GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee plant, workers booed Bob Corker for trying to take credit for the GM rescue package that he actually opposed.

For me, the countdown is at roughly 16 hours and counting. Civ 5, here I come! Course, I *do* have to go to work tomorrow, so I guess it’s more like 24 or so hours. Boss probably wouldn’t like it if I sat at my desk all day trying to send my horde of swordsmen swarming across the border with the Aztec Empire…

The second half of the season finale of Warehouse 13 is tomorrow night. Then, no sci fi shows for me to watch until Christmas. Though I hear AMC is doing a zombie show.

Billboards & bumper stickers observed whilst traveling between South Carolina, Georgia and the Florida Gulf Coast and back this past weekend:

‘Who is John Galt?’ Billboard just before entering Fla southbound on I-95 between exits three and one; and coming into GA on I-95 around the Richmond Hill exit.

‘Change the Change in 2021-Take Back America in November’; billboard southbound near Jacksonville and,

‘If 10% is enough for God, it’s enough for the IRS’-bumber sticker on a company work truck near I-4 in St. Augustine.

And in conversation with a classmate (I was down for my 30th high school reunion):

Him “Fedex just laid off 500 workers, but UPS didn’t have any layoffs. You know why, don’t you?”

Me: “Because UPS doesn’t make any left turns?”

Him: “No. UPS is union, so they get all those government kickbacks; Fedex isn’t, so they have to cut workers.”

Me: “Is that Boogie Shoes the DJ is playing? I love that song, gotta hit the dance floor. Nice talking to you.”

I’ve heard good things about Castle from here at BJ and other places, but I’ve never had the time to catch up.

Still, like I said, I love me some Blair Underwood, so hopefully the show has legs! Cause I missed him on tv Him and Jimmy Smits are bout the ONLY reason I watched LA Law!

Cole, sound like you might have the typical Ragweed shit I deal with, living in the Ohio River Valley, every September-October, until the first frost.

Never knew it existed until about seven years ago, been hating it ever since. For me, short-term Claritin does the trick, and since before it went OTC and the Doc had to prescribe it for me. Hope nothing more serious is going on; really hope it’s just ragweed.

    @General Stuck:

I’m practically squealing, watching my Reds, still alive (MORE than alive!!), in late September! It just doesn’t get any better than this. It’s actually interfering with my NFL love. I just can’t get enough of these Reds.

@lamh32: Love Fringe. One of the exceptions to my rule that I started watching from day one. Without spoiling too much, I like that they are toying with the idea that we are the bad guys in some ways (but of course they have to counter that by making the other side even worse). Have seen a few episodes of Castle and I like it but never became obsessed even though I like Nathan Fillion.

Just realizing that my rule of thumb really only applies to the networks. I am willing to give a shot right away to shows on TNT, USA, SyFy, etc. Not sure if that is because they give them more of a chance before killing them or if it is the summer season when there is very little new competing with them. Started watching Haven (I like) and Covert Affairs (lost interest as the season wore on) this year.

Alan Grayson is trying to destroy the nation by letting ACORN keep all the free houses Jimmy Carter & Barney Frank made FannieFreddie give to them.

Representative Alan Grayson of Florida has asked the Florida Supreme Court to halt all foreclosures in the state in light of an investigation by its attorney general into allegations of pervasive foreclosure fraud by so-called “foreclosure mills”.

    September 20, 2010
    __
    Chief Justice Charles T. Canady
    Florida Supreme Court
    500 South Duval Street
    Tallahassee, FL 32399-1900
    __
    Dear Chief Justice Canady,
    __
I am disturbed by the increasing reports of predatory ‘foreclosure mills’ in Florida. The New York Times and Mother Jones have both recently reported on the rampant and widespread practices of document fraud and forgery involved in mortgage assignments. My staff has spoken with multiple foreclosure specialists and attorneys in Florida who confirm these reports.
    __
Three foreclosure mills – the Law Offices of Marshall C. Watson, Shapiro & Fishman, and the Law Offices of David J. Stern – constitute roughly 80% of all foreclosure proceedings in the state of Florida. All are under investigation by Attorney General Bill McCollum. If the reports I am hearing are true, the illegal foreclosures taking place represent the largest seizure of private property ever attempted by banks and government entities. This is lawlessness.
    __
I respectfully request that you abate all foreclosures involving these firms until the Attorney General of the state of Florida has finished his investigations of those firms for document fraud.
    __
I have included a court order, in which Chase, WAMU, and Shapiro and Fishman are excoriated by a judge for document fraud on the court. In this case, Chase attempted to foreclose on a home, when the mortgage note was actually owned by Fannie Mae.
    __
Taking someone’s home should not be done lightly. And it should certainly be done in accordance with the law.
    __
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
    __
    Sincerely,
    __
    Alan Grayson
    Member of Congress

I have no idea what connection the Chief Justice of the FL Sup Ct would have with a letter written by a Congressman, but let’s say somehow the FL Sup Ct did carry out this action, maybe after some lawsuit came up via the AG, anyway, I’m sure Roberts-Scalia-Alito would jump into hyperspace and appear their instantly to block the ruling as an appended note to Bush V. Gore.

But I was proven wrong and now I really like Fringe. I think last season was even better than the first, and I’m just hoping that the 3rd season is just as good.

I don’t watch any cable shows online, and every time the glut of new shows comes around, I think I should try to watch something, anything. Nothing ever catches my interest, though. The one time I tried, I lasted ten minutes for one show, half an ep for another, and one ep for the third. There is nothing that appeals to me. It’s just strange.

Anyone catch the town hall with the President? From the NY Times, sounds like he got fairly raked over the coals by dissappointed supporters.

This is not going to end well. Too many middle class voters out there completely unwilling to choke down the hard fact that we’ve been living off debt-fueled high for the last 20 years and the bill has finally come due. And the demonic GOP is sitting there more than willing to point fingers of blame at the less powerful members of society (the poor, brown immigrants, minorities in general, gays, Muslims, etc.) while claiming its because of “tax and spend”
liberals that the economy is in the toilet.

I tried to watch a show about private eyes because I like mysteries, and it sucked. I can’t remember the third show except it had Carla Gugino and Peter Dinkage–both of whom I really like. And, I liked Xena and Buffy, but more for reasons of pulchritude (Lucy Lawless and Hudson Leick for the former, James Marsters and Anthony Head for the latter). I liked the campiness and the musical eps of each.

I liked Without a Trace for the first season as well as Numb3rs for the first three. Again, it had more to do with pulchritude and diversity than anything else (though the combo of math and crime-solving of the latter) intrigued me. I like murder mysteries, but more psychological than gruesome.

Funny thing that — FEDEX has the contract to manage the civilian charter airline service that the military uses to move troops to and from the middle east.
Now, they don’t use FEDEX cargo planes, they subcontract to other airlines like Omni Air International with its ominous omega symbol, and North American Airlines and a bunch of other airlines of which you’ve never heard, including American Trans Air, which went bankrupt when FEDEX dropped them from the contract. The hell of it is that I’ve flown all three of those airlines in the service, and ATA had the best service.

” Idris Elba has a new show coming on BBC America next month called “Luther.” He plays a London detective who specializes in serial killer-type crimes. I have to throw in a “viewer discretion advised” disclaimer though because I saw Luther when it originally aired in the UK, and some of the cases were so disturbing it made “Dexter” look like a Disney show. “

    All,

No really, I feel pretty good, considering. I’m working on a couple of certifications for my IT career, and pondering what might have been had I gone to Afghanistan and then gotten pneumonia. I’m supposed to get the staples removed on Wednesday, and then I’ll have this great dirty Frankenstein scar on my chest, which is actually kind of cool in an odd way.
Since I got home from the hospital, I’ve started watching the sunrise and the sunset. Oklahoma ain’t that pretty, but some of the sunrises and sunsets are nice. I miss my home, Colorado, even more. I’ve decided that as soon as my wife vests in her pension in a couple of years with the state of OK, I’m moving us back to Colorado.
