Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

One way or another, he’s a liar.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

No one could have predicted…

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

I’m too old for night games. Had only three drinks over a couple hours and it is all I can do to make it through the 4th quarter. Even the dogs said to hell with it, abandoned my lap, and went to bed.

@Yutsano: that’s the game I’ve been watching. ASU should have beat Wisconsin last weekend. I don’t think my Sun Devilette friend could take two tough loses in a row.

Reds lost, but so did the Cards, so the magic number to clinch the division title is now two. A Reds win tomorrow and a Cardinals loss would do it.

Can’t remember the last time I’ve been this disinterested in politics. At least ten years and it seems everything I read, even from people I once percieved to be somewhat neutral and respectful of the truth of things, or at least the effort in that direction, they now seem to have an angle and I likely do to. Maybe it’s just me, but my bullshit meter is always buzzing on false meme alert. Maybe this is what a crumbling political system looks like. Choosing up sides with little intent or interest of meaningful dialogue, and it is not only between the two great pol parties and the basic ideology of each, but also factions within them. Both the GOP and Dem parties. Everything seems a ritual of polemic posturing for a pre determined outcome, with little margin for compromise, and honest pragmatism for what works and blending of the best ideas. Tribal with fierce defense of friendly confines, all or nothing political desire. Oh well, I am rambling on, but I don’t ever remember it being this deeply and inconsolably fractured our country and society.

On behalf of NFL beer drinkers everywhere, I propose a flip flop.

College games should be played on Sunday.

NFL games should be played on Saturday, that the less restrained fans within our ranks might imbibe more freely… to better rest on Sunday, before answering Monday’s bell.

At least you didn’t have to watch Georgia play. How bad? Even Mark Richt threw his clipboard in frustration, and it wasn’t even the 2nd half.

I don’t think our trip to Lexington next month will be as fun as we hoped. I hope the weather, at least, will be nice.

@Three-nineteen: missed extra point to tie, kick return as the first half ended stopped at the one yard line, and a missed field goal of no more than 25 yards. Those are three plays that I remember. They should have/could have won that game, but didn’t.

Tonight, the third quarter has been a very sad implosion. And as I say that, they score a touchdown to make it 42-31.

  25. 25.

    Three-nineteen

    September 26, 2010 at 1:23 am

@Three-nineteen: I have finished my wine and need to go to bed, so I will answer my own question and then reply.

“Why do I think ASU should have beat Wisconsin? Because they only lost by one point! If Wisconsin didn’t block that extra point it would have been a tie game and gone into overtime, which ASU probably would have won because of momentum! Plus that kick return before the half almost was a touchdown.”

Not exactly true. WI blocked that extra point with 4 minutes left in the game. WI then ate up the clock. When the Badgers finally took a knee with less than 1 minute left in the game, they were inside ASU’s 30 yard line. So I am pretty confident that even if ASU had made that extra point, the Badgers could have scored before regulation was over. As for the almost touchdown before the half, SUCK IT, ASU, THEMS THE RULES.

    ETA: Wow, I’m good, aren’t I?

    September 26, 2010 at 1:33 am

@Three-nineteen: you missed the part about the missed field goal. And I said nothing about momentum, which I think is generally bullshit, especially in football. My point is only that they had plenty of opportunities to win that game and blew it.

@suzanne: 42-31 Oregon. Kinda bites cause I know more Sun Devils than Ducks. Plus a good friend of mine is doing her MBA there, she’s the one I went down there for to see her get hitched last April.

And the score no one noticed: Arizona 10 Cal 9. The Pac-10 is gonna bloody themselves senseless again this year.

I, too, am off to bed–early for me. I foolishly agreed to be picked up by my brother at 8:00 a.m. so we can drive to Longwood Gardens. These social outings always sound good a week ahead, not so much seven hours ahead.

I am looking forward to it, but I am just coming off a nasty string of night shifts and would love to sleep in tomorrow morning and then putter around aimlessly in the man-cave for the rest of the day. The simple pleasures.

@KG: The missed field goal was in the 1st quarter. That’s way too early to have had much of an effect on the outcome of the game (IMHO). Although it would have been interesting (read: bad) if ASU had tied or been leading at the half. I do agree that WI almost blew that game. The 70-3 result today was much better (although leave it to OSU to take the high score this week away from us, the bastards).

And with that, I’m off to bed.
