Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

… gradually, and then suddenly.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Come on, man.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Everybody saw this coming.

Stay strong, because they are weak.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Favre: I can’t trust them right now. Well, maybe they don’t fucking trust you! And, he just got the fuck picked off AGAIN. OK. Defensive interference, so not a pick, but still. Hey, I might be a Packers’ fan, but the vast majority of my friends and relatives here in the western part of Michigan are Lions’ fans. Most weeks I’ve got an eye on their games, too. This team is playing a lot better than they have in the last, uhm….Well, the best they have in a loooong time. I credit Schwartz for most of the improvement. You should hope they give him two more seasons after this one to prove himself, regardless of the record at the end of this season.

That’s one fucked up franchise, and I’m usually suspicious about a former player moving quickly to become a GM, but Garth Snow seems to have the Islanders moving in the right direction. And, Stevie had the benefit of working with Ken Holland.

I wish him well and, as hard as this is to say, I’m rooting for the Lightning. Of course, if he does well, I suspect he’ll be on the list of people to eventually replace Holland.

@Andy K: I’ve been a college hockey fan longer than an NHL fan. My father was a professor at Harvard when I was little, and at Michigan in high school, with three years in the college hockey wilderness of Philadelphia in between.

I’ve really only gotten into women’s hockey in the last year. My father and I had gone to every Frozen Four since 1990 until last year, but it’s finally become so large and commercialized that we decided that we decided we were done with it. We looked for something else to do as a trip, and chose the women’s Frozen Four over the DIII championships.

The University of Michigan needs to get off its ass and start a women’s team. Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin already have one, and Penn State is starting both a men’s and a women’s team in a couple of years. Wayne Fucking State has a women’s team, for god’s sake. Finlandia, in DIII, is the only other women’s team in the state.
