Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Let there be snark.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

T R E 4 5 O N

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Clearly you have yet to read my 32,758 word, 5-part essay: The Punchocaust – The Life and Very, Very, Very Hard Times of a True Progressive among the Obots. Guess you’ve got better things to do while the world goes to shit, huh?

    This is the best:

    4. What role should progressive blogs play in politics? . . . c) Look, I’m a plain spoken person and I have to say: What an incredibly stupid question. Progressive blogs, especially my blog, control the debate and the votes. If I’m not happy, a lot of DINO pols are going to be unemployed, the Republicans will be back in power and everyone will come crying to me!

    Ha Ha

The current GOP is truly a scary party, but if not for that it would be impossible to care about the midterm elections. When you’re reduced to rooting for soulless hacks like the current Senate majority leader—and he’s typical of today’s Democrats—you’ve lost something fundamental at the core of your humanity.

@Just Some Fuckhead: Lame comeback. You once had better material. In fact, I will personally appeal the front pagers here to get you another personal thread of some sort, if it will stop the infernal whining about this blog and Cole not measuring up to your standards. If you had any idea how embarrassing it is to see you show your emo ass in thread after thread, trying to catch the wind, and moaning about those dreadful Obots and Cole, you would run away in shame. There has to be something wrong with someone who continues that way.

@F: Heh. Thanks for the link. I liked this part even better:

…as I told Mediabistro: “Washington and Washington politics has worn me down. Every time I write a story I feel like I wrote it a year ago and five years ago and 10 years ago. Nothing ever changes here.” I frequently find myself numb to political news and, even worse, to the lifeless, conventional wisdom peddled by the Washington media. When you can read an entire column by the Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz and never once feel the urge to cut out your own heart with a dull knife, you know that you no longer have the sense of outrage that is essential to reporting from our nation’s capital.

@Stillwater: If fuckhead was referring to my blog, it was started in 2007, before I started on balloon juice, otherwise, I think it would be good therapy for fuckhead. Maybe you could sign on as a co blogger and take the rest of the watb’s with you.

I rarely communicate with Cole, and disagree with him when I do and agree when I do. It’s the miscreants like fuckhead, corner stone, and the rest of the usual suspects who are obsessed with my relationship with Cole, which there really isn’t one, other than whatever political issue of the day is.

Cole hasn’t changed, and neither have I, nor the rest of the pragmatics that populate this blog, It is fuckhead et al that have changed and tied in a knot that Cole doesn’t ditch Obama like they want him to for whatever their reasons.

So no, nothing fuckhead or you or any of the other pissant trolls say can hurt me. They have tried about every tactic, up to and including attacking my dog, but have failed. The people I care about on this blog, we get along just fine. now piss off.

    September 30, 2010 at 1:58 am

    @General Stuck:

JSF and Corner aren’t ‘obsessed’ with your relationship with Cole. You drooled and mawed and cringed over being FP’d by Cole for the absolutely ridiculous and incoherent things you said. Then you begged him to ban you because you lacked the character to leave when you knew your time was up. Then you went to your own blog and wrote about how ‘Cole has changed’, leaving you alone as the last sane clear thinking progressive. Now you say that ‘Cole hasn’t changed’. You’re delusional. Cole, unlike you, changes all the time – his views evolve, which is clear just by reading his posts. In a very short time, Cole has gone from wingnut to pretty far left. You’re Stuck in the onerous middle, cringing and unchanging, Stuck in centrism and apologetics for evidence which challenges your closely held beliefs, Stuck with the disposition that prevents you from seeing anything beyond your blinders.

I’ll just add my esteemed opinion here to point out that, amongst the regular commenters on this blog, there are roughly 2 categories:

    1. People who actually think and care about the issues of the day and come here to discuss them — and if they argue, to do so in good faith because they honestly believe that X is right and Y is wrong. And that is most of us.

    2. People who are so consumed with their own personal anger, frustration, and misery — whatever its cause in their actual lives — that they come here to unleash those sad emotions in the form of gratuitous, petty personal attacks on people they don’t know and never will.

And that’s ALL they do. Sure, it’s easy to cloak in the language of the moment — e.g., stupid arguments about who loves/hates Obama and who believes in ideals vs political expediency — but you can always tell a Fuckhead or Corner Stone Category 2 commenter from the more numerous, well-intentioned folks, by the utter vacuousness of their commentary when the petty sniping, snarking, and name-calling are stripped out.

  41. 41.

    September 30, 2010 at 6:48 am

@Stillwater: I really couldn’t remember if you were a hapless pro lefter or whomever, but you and cornerstone and fuckhead really are soulmates. Unable to come here and form coherent arguments for your bullshit, you make it personal like your own personal soap operas and try to play one person off against another. And just end up wasting our time in having to respond to it.

Pathetic creatures who keep selling this whiny drek and reliving the glory days when you thought I was gone. My meltdown over 6 fucking months ago now, that you insects obsess over, had more to do with letting you night crawlers get to me than anything to do with Cole. Attacking my dog, you found a weak spot, and the issue with Cole is long over and forgotten, with many threads between then and now, some agreeing with his view, others not. And the only people who care about such things are the sad little insects like you who have nothing else to offer.

It really is pathetic. Try forming a cogent argument once in a while on politics on a political blog. On second thought, I doubt you are capable.
