Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

This really is a full service blog.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

No one could have predicted…

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Why did Dr. Oz lose? well, according to the exit polls, it’s because Fetterman won.

After roe, women are no longer free.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

Angry Black Lady blog finds a pretty amazing screen shot from the Fox website (Fox took it down not long thereafter):

I guess their viewers are just small government conservatives who are concerned about the size of the deficit.

I guess their viewers are just small government conservatives who are concerned about the size of the deficit.

Actually, it’s that their viewers feel threatened by big, black deficits.

Hence, all the rhetoric about the federal government “forcing” things down their throats.

@Chris: Look, they’re not racist. They’re just incredibly concerned about all the damage that black and Latino people do to our culture, our children, and the economy. After all we wouldn’t have had this whole economic crisis if Jimmy Carter hadn’t put in the CRA to make banks give free houses to welfare Cadillac black people and then ACORN thugs stopped us from voting differently. Plus you have to be very careful with a President who is related to people from Kenya or who worked in Indonesia. He could be a Black Panther looking to hook up again with his Bill Ayers terrorist friend.

    How is that racist?

Reposting here from the open thread, since you brought up the deficit :)

    –
I’m about to blow a gasket.

A friend of mine posted a link to Krugman’s latest editorial about how structural unemployment is a canard, and some guy comments about how Krugman is always wrong, the emperor has been shown to have no clothes and the problem is spending.

I normally keep my mouth shut (really, I do!), but people espousing nonsense like this in public forums really bugs me, because other low-information people will read it, absorb it, and then repeat it to other low-information people, and so on. So simply comment “Krugman, as usual, is correct.”

The guy replies by posting an link to some blog post from a guy who is a follower of “the Austrian school of economics” that supposedly debunks Krugman’s article, and says “Please don’t reply unless you have solid data to support your argument”. If you go to the guy’s blog, the very first comment calls him “intellectually dishonest”, and a few comments down someone posts a link to government data showing he’s wrong, so I go point that out and say “Where were these deficit clowns during Dick and George’s Excellent Iraqi Adventure? They could have saved us a trillion dollars.”

Then he goes off on how Hayek was great, spending is wrong, and how Obama has spent more on the stimulus than we spent on Iraq and we have nothing to show for it, blah blah blah. I just said “If you don’t like deficits, tax the rich, get rid of the estate tax, tax capital gains as income and get out of two unfunded wars in the Middle East. Easy-peasy.”

I come here and shake my head when reading about how we’re supposed to support Democrats even though they’re shitty, but then I see these jokers and have to agree. These people just go on and on and on, and they’re coming out of the fucking woodwork.

    It’s. so. damned. frustrating.

    @Comrade Luke:

I come here and shake my head when reading about how we’re supposed to support Democrats even though they’re shitty,

But all Democrats aren’t shitty, too many, sure, maybe even most, but what good there is in the federal gov’t pretty much all has a D after their name.
There are some GOPers I think who are, or could/should be decent people, if more conservative than I– Lugar is pretty much the only one left, I think, Hagel and Warner were on that list, but they left. If Snowe had an ounce of guts, we’d live in a different country.

All it really takes is passing the arbitrary defining line of good taste or morality of one person, and a lot of other people freak out and hop on board. If children are somehow distantly involved a LOT of people freak out REALLY BADLY. Again, all it takes is one person. I can’t be bothered to confirm this, but I’ll lay odds that these wacky things that happen on John’s blog are due to third-party WordPress plugins, not WordPress itself.

Now, you can still blame WordPress for making it easy for developers to make plugins, or for distributing them without warranty. But blaming WP for things like the single-hyphen problem is like blaming Apple for freeware iPhone apps that crash.
