My Democratic state senator is currently being challenged by a Tea Party candidate. The tea party candidate is a right-wing Catholic, and his signs have recently appeared in front of several Catholic churches and schools in the district. Obviously, this is a blatant violation of those institutions’ 501c3 status. How does one go about reporting this to the IRS?
@carlos the dwarf: Maybe bring to the attention of the local press? You need action before the election, and a good local paper, TV or radio station would probably be more effective in bringing quick attention and getting that stuff shut down, or at least getting the culprits shamed.
But I am not an expert on this stuff, since I have only worked as a low level grunt (that is, a pennie ante small time ward heeler) knocking on doors for GOTV.

Meanwhile on the left coast, the Governator (mostly) wins the final legal fight against the dreaded state workforce.
Last Friday I saw a truck parked on an I-5 overpass in a no-parking zone. The unoccupied truck, which had no plates, sported campaign signs for somebody running for county sheriff. What a time to be without a camera.

@trollhattan: And you didn’t call the home security hot line and report a possible terrorist bomber? Seriously.
Particularly, Sally Field playing the neurotic insane soap opera star in Soap Dish. If you haven’t seen that one, you should.
I think Field should play O’Donnell in the movie.

@carlos the dwarf: I’d just get on the phone to them if I were you. I’d explain the situation, and ask if the person knew who you should speak with about it. Also, check the IRS’s web site. There might be a phone number listed for such things.
I’m not sure, but I am sure that it won’t have any practical effect. The church will just claim that the sign was put up by someone who doesn’t represent the church and consequently isn’t their fault. The IRS will accept this, since they want an excuse to do nothing.

Oboy, this is rich. A Harry Reid ad criticizing Sharron Angle was false because it chastized her for something she lied about having done. (If my poor reptile brain follows what’s going on here.)
What about them? In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s a giant fucking double standard about sex. Men who have sex with anyone with two X chromosomes are manly men doing what manly men do. The only thing they can do that will provoke anything like outrage is to infringe on another man’s prerogative by having sex with his woman. Women, OTOH, are supposed to hate sex and tolerate it only to have babies, and only then if they’re married to manly man breadwinners.
Besides, teaching, like all nurturing activities, is naturally women’s work. Any man who wants to be a teacher is obviously gay, except possibly one who tolerates the teaching side of things in order to have a manly man job like high school football coach.
Angle attacks Reid for being false because the ad relies on a lie by Angle? Thanks for that, I guess.
‘ The Angle campaign reacted quickly to this discrepancy — by slamming the Reid campaign for airing a false ad, which was of course based on Angle’s own claims. “Reid’s campaign made a false ad, they have no evidence of the bill they reference,” spokesman Jarrod Agen said in an email. “Obviously, they are lying again.” ‘
@trollhattan: I just read that. During the primary, Angle claimed to have introduced a bill to remove mandated coverage from helath insurance (ie. companies would not be mandated to cover mammograms) so Reid used that as the basis for a commercial. I thought this comment from Angle’s spokesman was the cherry on top. It takes a lot of chutzpah to refer to statements made by your own candidate as “no evidence”

Although you have to eye that football coach/teacher carefully, too…what if he wants to be a coach so he can be in the locker room when his players are pre-showering, showering and post-showering, huh?

I think nuns would probably meed DeMint’s criteria, and they have the additional advantage of working cheap. Married women would also presumably qualify, since any sex they have would be OK. Of course we’ll need a few men around to serve in the most important roles, like principal- we couldn’t let women be in charge, could we- and football coach.

@Roger Moore: If you read his reasoning, he claims he doesn’t want gays/sluts because of–get this–Freedom of Religon. That’s his crutch.
@Face:
That’s just the standard Christianist definition of freedom of religion. Their religion tells them to force their views on others, so anyone who resists is interfering with their religious practice. Their beliefs are fundamentally at odds with the ordinary concept of freedom of religion.

@Punchy: Does ‘sexually active single women’ include people who are, um… sexually active with thems…
And if so, what about the men?
I guess only married people should teach? If they can prove they have never cheated?
Never mind. I think my brain just exploded.
