Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The willow is too close to the house.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

This blog will pay for itself.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

No one could have predicted…

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

You cannot shame the shameless.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

Shall we see a Monday Night Football thread? Or have the Patsie Mafia bribed BJ to keep discussion of their impending humiliation off the front-page?

At work I am being tormented by adorable kittens. My boss’s daughter in law refuses to spay her cat, and so it pops out kittens on a regular basis. She brought the most recent litter to our office in hopes we’d succumb to the cuteness and adopt them. I don’t need or want another cat, and if I did, I’d go for a rescue, but god damn, they are so cute.

Anyone else see the Wallander last night?

It’s good, but not great. Not enough of an ensemble cast, I think. The landscapes though are amazing.

@debit: As a die-hard Bears phan, I simply cannot stand Cutler. Arrogant, petchulant ass. I’m just lucky I dont live there anymore, so I only get to see his smug shit live a coupula times a year.

Yes, better than 56-year old Todd Collins (really, he’s #2?), and waaaaaaay better than Grossman, but dayum….

Call Jeff Garcia, arrange a flight, and give him a blank check to fill in any number he wants. Quick, before Philly does it first.

Ah, stop teasing John. Chuck is a GREAT show. I’m really just surprised that a show with that many scantily clad hot chicks doesn’t have higher ratings. What the hell is wrong with our society, when Dancing With the Has-Been Wannabes rates higher?

Since this is an open thread, could I ask the blog deities if it would be possible to move the “Recent Posts” and “Recent Comments” up above at least one or two of the Google ads? I know you gotta make money, but the number of ads has gotten slightly out of control, pushing down content that might help us frequent denizens.

And just so it doesn’t sound like I’m just a freeloader, I actually clicked on that Marriott ad at the top of the page and might actually use the offer for a reservation I’ve got coming up. So there’s a first time for everything.

I am hoping for a 0-fer from Randy Moss tonight, and a game in which the Pats only score field goals.

Not that my preferences are influenced solely by my fantasy football matchup this week. Not. At. All.

Sweet jesus on rollerskates… I can’t believe this is the country I live in. When even the NRO bloviators are squirming at what this kind of laissez faire nonsense portends, you know it’s bad.

OBION COUNTY, Tenn. – Imagine your home catches fire but the local fire department won’t respond, then watches it burn. That’s exactly what happened to a local family tonight. A local neighborhood is furious after firefighters watched as an Obion County, Tennessee, home burned to the ground. The homeowner, Gene Cranick, said he offered to pay whatever it would take for firefighters to put out the flames, but was told it was too late. They wouldn’t do anything to stop his house from burning. Each year, Obion County residents must pay $75 if they want fire protection from the city of South Fulton. But the Cranicks did not pay.

    @Onihanzo:

to be fair, that is nothing new in this country, or in tennessee.

the only thing that makes it notable is that it is now happening to white people. as richard pryor defined “epidemic”, that means it is happening to white people… paraphrasing, when a couple drives into the city to see the symphony, they see black people all fucked up and they say, look at those people, they come home and their kid is fucked up in the garage, they say “oh my god, its an epidemic:”

Open threadiness: I have the first decent new networking contact for a job in six months. He said he’s willing to help me tailor my resume for the company. When I’m staring down the barrel of only 14 more weeks of UI, this is a beautiful thing. It’s also wonderful that he understood the alphabet soup of my certifications, etc. I can’t get too happy yet, but let’s call it a green shoot, and a real green shoot at that.

FFL needs. I needed for RBROWN to get zero or one points, and for welker, goskwoski and benjarvus to combine for 23 points. BRown has at least 3 points and i don’t think the other is happening.

    “It is time?”

I’ve never seen Chuck; the trailers make the show seem completely lame. Since our host seems completely enthralled, it must have some redeeming qualities. I’ll have to check it out.

Next week. Right now I’m busy watching Tyler Thigpen mop up for the ‘Fins vs the Patriots.

(It seems like there should be a different way to express “mopping up” when on the losing side?)

And the thought of a Jeffster poetry slam is wondrous.
