Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When I was faster i was always behind.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

The words do not have to be perfect.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

So fucking stupid, and still doing a tremendous amount of damage.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

This chaos was totally avoidable.

Okay. Here’s some live acoustic stuff I think is really good. Thank God for Youtube. And for this music. Music just gets better and better as far as I’m concerned. I’ve cobbled together a bunch of songs/performances I like and that I think will keep y’all entertained. At least they’ve been keeping me entertained. That and the Hoptoberfest.

We’ll start off with some Avett Brothers and G Love…

More tunes after the leap.

And here’s Jessica Lea Mayfield and Seth Avett:

Some Langhorne Slim:

Next up, A.A. Bondy:

Jay Farrar and Ben Gibbard from their joint-venture project on Kerouac:

The National (you can understand the lyrics better live anyways):

Ben Harper’s great anthem (dude on the drums is so happy – can’t imagine why…):

And we’ll finish things off with some more Avetts because, well, they’re just the damn best music out there right now:

Here’s a song of mine I recorded A While Back – couldn’t get the video to stick (the green looks really good in HD though). Song’s called Lullaby:

Tweety tries to say no one protested the idea of going to war with Iraq. Well, maybe some of us did, but not loud enough.

    Sheesh.

Hate to ruin a nice, friendly music thread like this, but check the Very Serious Discussion over at teh Gray Lady: opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/15/are-the-democrats-the-true-extremists/?hp

If the title doesn’t make you want to puke up your own liver, the first sentence will.

@Spaghetti Lee: I don’t know what’s worse: that swill or the fact that the columnist got paid four or five figures to write absolute drivel. If you can’t even keep a central thesis, STOP WRITING.

Maybe not quite the theme song for BJ, but at the very least a few shared sentiments.

Took a listen to “10,000 Words” last night. I’m afraid even though it’s a good song I’m still more of a Fleet Foxes fan – but that by no means decreases the values of these other ones. Acoustic guitar is one of my favorite instruments, music made with it is near and dear to my heart.

Thanks for the videos, will watch/listen to more of them through the day.

You know E.D., it takes more guts, IMO, to put your musical tastes on the line than some political position. I admire your courage and taste.

    @Bob:

Completely agreed, I think sometimes I get more glares/weird looks/sidelong glances over my music than over my politics.

Also, while we’re talking music, I feel obligated to link this. Apparently Lin-Manuel Miranda (writer and star of the Tony Award-winning In the Heights) is working on a hip-hop album about the life of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton – “someone who embodies the concept of hip-hop” to him – and he performed one of the songs at the White House. It’s quite the impressive piece of performance.

(Not sure if it’s been posted already. If it has, apologies.)

If we’re talking acoustic music, how about a Marching Band doing a field show to a medley of Talking Heads songs? This band is really good. And I’ll bet David Byrne thinks this is cool, too.

Well thanks for listening…I’m not too worried about sharing my musical tastes, though. I mean, nobody has to like what I like for me to like it, you know?

Love the National. Avetts, not so much. Your song is a’right, ED. And, I agree that it takes more courage to post your musical favorites than it does to argue about politics.

@gbear: Yep. It’s moving and powerful and just…great.

Agreed there as well. I tend to have to defend my tastes on a regular basis, since they’re ridiculously eclectic.
