I don’t watch near as much baseball as I used to since the Pirates have decided to suck like Linda Lovelace for two decades, but I honestly don’t recall the last time I saw an entire bullpen breakdown like the Rangers did in the bottom of the 8th tonight. Just pathetic.

Speaking as a San Franciscan, it was pretty awesome viewing. Go Giants!

I really am a bad person, because I couldn’t take my eyes off that for a second. Tule fog time on the I – 80 and a sixty four car pile up. It was that bad.
And I loved it. The Giants!
beltane
Good. Can’t stand the Texas Rangers.
JWL
Pathetic? You’re insane.
It was beautiful.
General Stuck
I like that Giants now that Bonds is gone, but just lost interest when the Reds got beat in the div playoff. Looking like it could be a 4 gamer sweep this year. The good news is the Browns have piqued my interest again, at least for the present. They have a bye I think this Sunday.

In case anyone has forgotten: FTFY!

this porbably goes more appropriately here, in the open thread.
At least McCance is going to resign. And in other wingnut news, Jean Schmidt talked about abortion to a school assembly in Cincinnati and the principal had to send a letter home as it was a 1st – 8th grade group. He asked that they keep it within the school community, but they didn’t! Perhaps it will get some traction for her opponent. And maybe people will be offended that Boehner is campaigning with Rich Iott. And slightly more southern, isn’t it interesting that a money funneler for Rove in KY just happens to own a nursing home that Jack Conway is prosecuting, for elder abuse. FYWP I can’t link any sources, but there’s some press out there (it’s not like Jack called to tell me).

BWAAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!
Pa-thet-ic, indeed!

In an amusing coincidence, the Rangers did almost exactly the same thing to the Yankees during the ALCS, but they were only able to expand their 2-0 lead to 8-0.
kindness
Jeez not only that…the Giants who had hardly scored much against Atlanta & The Phillies have run up 20 runs in two games…
I’ll be damned. Why can’t Democrats kick butt like that?
btw-you had Barry Bonds before the juice. Him & Bonilla. It’s amazing how long ago that was now.
Geoduck
Never seen an epic bullpen collapse? We call that “Tuesday” up here in Seattle.

@Bella Q: Thank you for the first link. You know, he really was doing all right in the apology category (for such a horrific thing to say) until he started whining about how he’s the victim here. Sigh. Same ol’ same ol’.
Texas: Yeah. WTF, man?
RalfW
In the open thread category: A winger who is willing to sell her own uncle down the river for her own Christianist electoral goals.
BerkeleyMom
Can’t figure out why the pitcher wasn’t pulled after two walks for pete’s sake. Even this Giants fan felt sorry for the kid. Sheesh. Has a pitcher ever walked in three runs in a WS game?
RalfW
WI winger-gal also compared gay marriage to marrying a clock. To which my boyfriend said “Honey, you’d like that. I’d be more likely to be on time!”
jl
“Just pathetic.”
No, it was wonderful to behold.

@BerkeleyMom:
I filed it under “coaching a lost cause.” They were already mentally on the plane “de plane.”

You are obviously not a Cubs fan.
Yutsano
@Geoduck: Ouch. Yup. It cuts deep, but it’s twue. Though I am wondering now how Griffey is gonna ratfuck us next season.
@freelancer: Dude…why are they hating on the Stomp like that? They do some kickass shit with trash cans and just about anything else they can beat.

Since this is an open thread…
In a bizarre event that boggles my mind, Tommy Friedman wrote a column that makes sense, except for his reflexive dig at the public service unions. It’s called “Can’t Keep a Bad Idea Down”, about how Republicans are pushing the same ideas that got us into our current mess. (I’m not linking on general principles. If he can write good columns for an entire Friedman Unit I might start.)
Our problems must be pretty bad if somebody as clueless as Tommy has noticed.

Christine O’Donnell should thank that Gawker asshole for throwing her a bone this week and NOT the night they met.
…so going to hell.
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: Hey, hon! How you be?
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: Tired as hell, kinda sorta looking forward to my birthday Saturday and kinda sorta not so much, and I possibly haz a stalker at work. How’s you?
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: Oooh! A stalker at work. That’s not good. Disregard my stalking-you comment in the above thread, plz. Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Yuuuuutsy, happy birthday to you! OK, it’s not Saturday yet. Deal.
Me? I’ve had better days.
Commish
That was awesome!
As a Giants fan I’m in full partisan mode, while hoping that Rangers kid who walked 3 gets over it and comes back better than ever…..next year, vs. the Yankees.
Go Giants!
WyldPirate
@Scamp Dog:
Man, they were talking about that column on Morning Blow yesterday after Mika read a print of the first Graf. Then, all of those stupid, overpaid fucks–Scaborough, Mika, Buchanan and that fucking useless twit Meachem were sitting there, saying, “I don’t get it, why do they want to listen to scientists and engineers”, and they need to “:make a climate that is good for business:”, and the American people get it, they know taxes don’t need to be raised”.
All the while, the dumb fucks had the table covered with copies of the TIMES and wired to the gills crackberries and IPhones.
BUT NONE OF THE GODDAMNED LAZY FUCKS COULD TAKE A FEW FUCKING SECONDS BETWEEN COMMERCIALS TO READ THE GODDAMNED COLUMN!
And there is Friedman–once in every 6 months sounding sane and speaking the truth–that rampant spending and egregious tax cuts along with lax regulation was what got the economy in such fucked up shape.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
We are so goddamned doomed as a society when motherfuckers like those worthless pieces of dog shit on Morning Blow get paid exorbitant sums for being goddamned liars and fools.
WyldPirate
@Joseph Nobles:
ha…you said “throwing her a bone”…heehee.
You’re a bad man…
handy
@beltane:
And all this time I thought I was the only one.
Go Giants!
Anton Sirius
It wasn’t the entire bullpen. Ron Washington cleverly made sure his best reliever never got into the game.
Steaming Pile
If there is still baseball to watch on Tuesday, I intend to watch it, and get my election results on Wednesday morning.
Steaming Pile
@BerkeleyMom: Because his replacement wasn’t warm yet. The poor bastard was furiously warming up in the bullpen while the guy he was going to replace was falling to pieces. And then he came into the game while still not quite warm.
Steaming Pile
@Commish: You mean the Yankees they beat THIS YEAR?
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: You’re allowed to stalk me though hon. It’s what a wifey is for!
And this definitely is qualifying as unwarranted attention. He’s asked me several times now to hug him. It seriously is so disconcerting to ask that, especially of a fellow co-worker. If he shows up at my cube tomorrow (he’s done that twice now) with another something I’m gonna have a talk with our EEO folks. I’m really getting uncomfortable with this.

I think Juan Uribe strikes fear into the hearts of any major league battery.

Oh Jesus H. Bieber, the riff for High School Musical is bringing tears to my eyes. It’s that goddamned funny.

@Yutsano: Happy birthday on Saturday Yutsano. Good luck with the situation, I think you’re doing he right thing if he keeps it up.
sgrAstar
Giants! Giants! Giants! Yay…. and Go Bears.
Yutsano
@Jewish Steel:
Fixteth. Without apology.
jl
@Yutsano: Fine with me as long as he keeps it up. As you saw in a previous thread, we just have just so much damn fine food and booze in the SF Bay, no one can resist. Except me I guess, for the most part.
See if you can persuade Cole to pop up to Seattle. I worry about the boy getting into trouble in Sin City. Two weeks is too long for him to be wondering around by himself.

@Yutsano:
Wow. Uhhhh, I mean there’s a male nurse that is a little too enthusiastic to see me, but the worst that he’s gotten is asking about how my weekend was, so that’s harmless. Your situation sounds creepy as fuck, gay or straight, some people are just “off”.
jl
@asiangrrlMN: How can you stalk one of your own internet husbands?
lol
Psshaw. This was just a loss that turned into a blowout.
You want pain? Pain is blowing 12-0 lead.
Mariners vs Indians, 2001.

@lol:
In a 116-win season, you’re bound to have a bad night or two.

I honestly don’t recall the last time I saw an entire bullpen breakdown like the Rangers did in the bottom of the 8th tonight
You must not have seen the Cubs in the NLCS in ’03. It wasn’t just the infamous Bartman incident that cost them that game.
Susan Ross
They did the same thing vs. the Yanks in the first game of the ALCS, and looked pretty tentative throughout that series. They just aren’t very good, except for Feliz.
This Red Sox fan doesn’t care who wins as long as the Yankees were sent home, although I admit to a growing fondness for the Freak & the Beard. Let Timmy Smoke!
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: Ouch. No laughing matter. Yes. Do that. This guy, at the very least, has inappropriate boundaries. Good luck with that.
@jl: By following him from thread to thread until he acknowledged me! Which took two seconds.
@jl: Ha.
Bolded for emphasis. I like your Freudian slip.

You can still watch with amazement YouTube videos of the incomparable Clemente.

I hit the wall at 8:00 last night after five nights of 2-3 hours sleep each. I missed the whole thing and it is killing me.
@Erikthe Red: I’ll never forget the spooked look on Prior’s face. God, it was awful.
ricky
They will talk about the bullpen collapse, but the Rangers would have lost 2-0 if their relief staff had worn the additional necklaces needed for proper circulation in the chilly Bay Area fall and done their jobs.
mawado
To be fair to the Rangers, they may have a bit of trouble acclimating to the local environment. See this Texas news reader for an example:

PS – How pissed is Rush that a team from San Francisco, that regularly goes by Los Giagantes, is up 2-0 on the Bush & Co.’s favorite ball club?
Graeme
I love that FOX was forced to show men from SF laying SERIOUS WOOD to those Texans!
Byfuglien (pronounced Bufflin)
@Erikthe Red: It’s considered bad luck and bad form to mention the name of that game and its anti-hero. We Cubs fans just call it “the Scottish game”.
Nellcote
@mawado:
The first time I saw that video, I thought it was a spoof.
