Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Come on, man.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

From commentor Edward I.:

I just thought I’d add my pup Sookie to the rescue lineup at Balloon Juice. She was born May 31st and I adopted her through Austin Boxer Rescue.

Her hobbies include chewing everything, eating and peeing.

Now that’s a great way to start the day! What a sweet puppy — looks like she knows how lucky she is.

My sweet beagle sitting next to me wants to remind her to ask for lots of SNEKS!

What a lovely puppy. I’d like to know more about boxers. I’ve never known one. Could someone who knows them well tell me the pros and cons of the breed?

@Josie: Boxers are intensely personable dogs, who get very attached to their people. They are bright AND stubborn. They really know what is best!

They can be problematical with other dogs; most breeders recommend getting another, opposite sex, boxer for best results. Good socialization when young can help that; a puppy coming into an existing pack will probably try to be Pack Leader, but that’s only a problem if you have another strong Alpha type.

They have a lot of muscles, and need to get rowdiness out of their system on a regular basis. They also have an wonderful set of grumbly, snorty, and ridiculous vocalizations so you know where they stand on any issue.

    And you will know.

These are not goofball dogs. They were police and guard dogs back in the day, and morons fought them in pits. But they have huge hearts of pure gold.

Look out for health problems; they have some genetic baggage and need lots of fat and protein to avoid digestive troubles.

But most Boxer-exposed people become Boxer fans. I grew up with them.

    @Josie:

First, I have to say that Snookie is the cutest cutie cute doggie ever!

Second, I have several friends with boxers and they adore them. Very good personalities, a bit territorial and not particularly great with other breeds, but sweet and expressive and loyal and full of energy (that can be good and bad, depending on how you roll). If I was going to adopt and walked into a shelter and saw one, I probably would not be able to resist based on the boxers with which I’ve been acquainted. I have found them to be funny, personality-wise, and affectionate.

But that is the damn cutest puppy I think I’ve ever seen!

Sookie (not SNOOKIE!) is my girl and she is wonderful. She is smart, kind and funny. While her mother was a full Boxer, nobody knows what daddy was. I’m guessing Lab based on her jowls and body and the appearance of many of her littermates.

I think Boxers are one of the best breeds, but the important thing, in my book, is to find a dog that needs a home and then provide that home. I already have two Boxers (1 that waspoorly bred and one that is a mix ) and have fostered over 40 Boxers for ABR.

Boxers are great family dogs and I can’t recommend them enough. That said, they are a high energy dog. If you don’t have the time to spend with them don’t be surprised if they get a little rowdy (and destructive.)

@werebear and geg6 – Thanks for the information. I know stubborn. I have an aging Akbash right now and am baby sitting my son’s pug. I am starting to love the funny face on the pug, but I would want a bigger dog for my own. Sounds like not a good mix with my big dog for now, but maybe something to think about later.

@Werebear: I’m also partial to brindles. They’re like the torties of the dog world, so I guess that makes sense. Both are just so beautiful.

The exact same hobbies as yours or your puppy?

Please advise. If the former, then remind me to hide the shoes and slippers before you visit.
