Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Republicans do not trust women.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Let there be snark.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

T R E 4 5 O N

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

How stupid are these people?

Consistently wrong since 2002

And the Uppity Negro Meme is Back

Was checking the local newspaper and was appalled to see the Virgin Ben on the op-ed pages:

Third, Obama’s childhood shows us that he was always a narcissist concerned with his own power. Not only did he want to be president, he thought the presidency was all about him. Soldiers were there for defending him; businessmen were there for supporting him. Presidents were kings. That’s why he wanted to be president.

The other day, one of the stooges at Tucker Carlon’s vanity project was calling Obama the “Narcissist in Chief,” and now a Weekly Standard flunky is out with the following:

Why has Barack Obama failed so spectacularly? Is he too dogmatically liberal or too pragmatic? Is he a socialist, or an anticolonialist, or a philosopher-president? Or is it possible that Obama’s failures stem from something simpler: vanity. Politicians as a class are particularly susceptible to mirror-gazing. But Obama’s vanity is overwhelming. It defines him, his politics, and his presidency.

The title of the piece is “American Narcissus,” and like the Virgin Ben, it quotes from his books to draw a deeper, more sinster meaning that all the rest of us missed.

Do they coordinate these memes? Or is there just a rotating file of bullshit and sometimes it just seems like they are coordinating.

We just got back from seeing Inside Job. A more correct summation of our sentiment could not exist.

(Seriously, everyone needs to go see it – it may be the best documentary I’ve seen in…well, a long time. I’m going to go take my money out of my TBTF bank in cash just to piss them off and put it in a local credit union next week. Edit: but more needs to be done than that…it’s just a start.)

Tomorrow on MTP one of the lackeys will repeat the same meme. We have been down this road before and considering the unemployment rate is higher that 9%, the Presidents popularity is still pretty high. (between 45% and 48%) They have to take if down a few points in order to beat him in 2012.

Wait wait wait…the president who’s defining characteristic of his campaign and first two years has been a steadfast refusal to hit back against attacks, in order to focus on achieving as many substantive accomplishments as possible, is a narcissist?

The guy who made a point of making the tax cuts in the Recovery Act as invisible as possible, so they’d have the greatest stimulatory effect, is a narcissist? Oh, that must be why he didn’t send out checks, preceded by “You’re going to get a check,” letters with his name on them, like George W. Bush. Because he’s a narcissist.

These people’s writing about Barack Obama always, always, always turns out to be a thinly-veiled map of their own psyches.

I don’t think Obama has failed.

He has a solid list of accomplishments.

He has a longer list of things that are still in the works. Some deeds take a while to accomplish.

Besides, I always knew he wouldn’t succeed at everything. Nobody could.

Let’s analyze Ben Shapiro. Grew up in a wealthy religious Jewish home. Went to college and wrote a book about how college students were too sexual and lack conservative religious values. Went to Harvard Law and wrote about how law students were too sexual and lack conservative religious values. Cheer leader for the Iraq war. Didn’t enlist himself, but was perfectly comfortable sending others to fight and die. He apparently had more important things to do including continuing his sage advice about young people, sex, religion and the cultural wars. Wrote about how he waited to have sex for his wedding night.

Now tell me exactly who is narcissitic?

Why has Barack Obama failed so spectacularly?

He has a solid list of accomplishments.

You and the author are talking past each other. A Republican doesn’t care about accomplishments. He only cares about power.

Barack Obama’s party lost an election. Big. Ergo, he’s failed – he’s failed at the only relevant measure of success in their world.

Barack Obama sought power in order to do things in the government. Conservatives do things in the government in order to achieve power. Barack Obama’s accomplishments didn’t win him the next election, so in their eyes, he’s a failure. You could give him a list a mile long of Obama’s important accomplishments in order to argue that he isn’t a failure; he’d just think you were making up excuses.

calling Obama the “Narcissist in Chief,”

It is all projection/distraction against Bush’s memoirs to try to work up some equivalency between the two, but for Obama it is bad while for Bush it is good.

I recently saw a copy of Bush’s book. In the color photo section in the middle there Bush as president is pitching a ball at a baseball game – one of his most satisfying achievements as president.

I haven’t seen evidence that Obama likes to play dress-up. But Bush sure did – flight suits, semi-military jackets, and all sorts of clothing items from boots to socks to hats with the presidential seal on them.

Few leaders can carry the weight of such extraordinary, plain-spoken humility as George W. Bush Jr., Dick Cheney, John Boehner, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, John McCain and the like.

Their every pore exudes humility. They are like the American political version of quiet monastic contemplation.

I think ‘coordinate’ is overstating their capacity for organized behavior. Basically, they quote and repeat each other, over and over, in the hopes setting off a viral thread of mutual- and self-reference. As it happens, the world is what it is, and not some other thing… so this sort of game has its limits. Even a coordinated ouflow of assholes can’t fill the entire universe with shit.

And here comes the next hissy fit from our progressive betters.

Obama may deny KSM a trial: report

The administration has concluded that it cannot put Mohammed on trial in federal court because of the opposition of lawmakers in Congress and in New York. There is also little internal support for resurrecting a military prosecution at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The latter option would alienate liberal supporters.

Pretty much sums up the winger rock and liberal hardplace Obama is stuck between. But why hasn’t he closed Gitmo.

Administration officials also think that they will probably not secure the funding and legal authority from Congress to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay and transfer any remaining detainees to the United States. There are 174 detainees at Guantanamo Bay, down from 241 when Obama took office. Diplomatic efforts continue to reduce that number through the resettlement or repatriation of detainees cleared for transfer by an interagency task force.

But, one official said, “Gitmo is going to remain open for the foreseeable future.”

Only more evidence this country is ungovernable. Idiots in every direction, left and right, and triple so in congress. NIMBY, or whatever it is, it is always something from wienerland USA.

And I know, why doesn’t Obama just say fuck it like GWB, and do what he wants, and to hell with the law and gutless preeners in congress? Must be weakness. eh?

The origin of the projection is worth a moment’s reflection.

When I ascribe, reflexively, the same motives to you, and the same intentions to you that I have, it’s probably because I can’t conceive of anyone thinking in any way other than the way I think, or having any goals other than the ones I have.

In other words, the only way that those other meat-puppets can actually be people, as distinct from meat-puppets, — they exist, I can see them outside myself, I can’t deny they exist — is if they are in fact just additional me’s.

And if they are not additional me’s — then it’s open season on them — they’re just meat-puppets, and deserve no regard from me.

    It’s the opposite-of-empathy.

It’s a gawd-awful stunted world in those heads, people.

We get it. If you criticize Obama (facilly and stupidly in this case) the underlying reason is racism.

When I bitch about sending money and troops to support a corrupt and illegitimate government in Afghanistan, it is probably racist. When I bitch about ignoring long established bankruptcy laws to protect unions in the GM bailout, it is probably subconscious racism. When I point out that this adminiswtration trots out state secrecy to avoid answering for wrongdoings committed by the previous administration it is probably racist.

And especially if a couple of dumbshit, team red, armchair psychologists idiotically psychoanalyze Obama (nobody from team blue ever did that to Bush the Lesser) it must be racism and not mindless partisanship.

This makes me think of the Newsweeks story; “How He Did It” about the 2008 campaigns.

The story details how Obama had to get Michelle’s permission to run for President, and how if she had insisted no, he wouldn’t have done it.

Hillary and John McCain both questioned if they should do it (run for Pres) and why they would even want the job.

Who was the one person who was sure of her ascendancy? Of course, Half-term Governor Palin, who single handedly ensured McCain lost. Yet, to read her story, she didn’t hesitate to run for VP or to think she was perfect for President.

    But Obama is the narcissist.

The conservative right is just sufficiently unified in opposition of the Democrats the last couple of decades that they’ll hop onto the same bandwagon instantly.

Cindy McCain caused a stir by denouncing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell in a spot for a pro-gay marriage organization even as her husband blocks any attempt to repeal the law. But wait! She actually supports John’s position?

Cindy McCain, whom we salute for her past and present support of gay rights, says: “Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future … They can’t serve our country openly … Our government treats the LGBT community like second-class citizens, why shouldn’t [the bullies]?”

Except yesterday, Cindy tweeted a complete 180: I fully support the NOH8 campaign and all it stands for and am proud to be a part of it. But I stand by my husband’s stance on DADT.

If the military commissions were set up to afford due process standards comparable to the civilian courts, then yes, as long as it was open and fair. MC’s have been around for a long time and the fact Bush’s version was a kangaroo court one, doesn’t mean they cannot be conducted properly.

The left doesn’t seem to want to allow for this, and are opposing mostly due to opposition to Bush, and the right are piss n pants cowards for opposing civilian trials in the states, in NY, which I would much prefer. And congress from both parties are blocking funding for closing gitmo and relocating those prisoners on our soil, to be tried, or whatever.

There are only about 50 left, and no country will take those fifty, and congress both left and right seems unwilling to support any solution, other than keeping Gitmo open and those 50 right there, by blocking funding to do anything.

This was the point I was making, that Obama is not getting any help, neither from elected officials, or the American public in resolving this matter in any way.

I personally would recommend a civilian trial in New York. But that would require the WATB politicians in New York to grow a pair and stop blocking the trial. In the mean time, I’d prefer that people not blame Obama when he’s being blocked while trying to do the right thing, and that they instead concentrate on the people who are blocking him.

But that’s just because I have an idea of cause and effect. People who don’t care about that kind of thing can keep ignoring who is actually at fault and continue to blame Obama. They just shouldn’t be surprised when the don’t get anywhere.

I prefer to reinforce my concept of right wing assholes direct from the source, and so the Virgin Ben is an excellent choice to read and follow on the Twitter. The other day he labeled the “ADF attack on Beck” as “disgusting.” This was the same day that Beck was attacking the ADF, asking if they took money from Soros. This would make the leading institution looking out for Jewish slander part of a spooky Jew’s plot to take over the world, in the minds of Beck’s followers.

But for Ben, Soros is the self-hating Kapo. Yes, I’ve seen him call Soros that in just those words. What. A bastard.

ETA: Ben retweeted one of his idiot followers who said that Obama was incapable of loving anyone but himself. You don’t understand: “anti-colonialist” means “anti-white.” Or, more specifically, “doesn’t think that white people should run everything.” It refers to the independence movements in Africa during the 1950s and 1960s, not the American revolution.

This is also why they compare Obama to Robert Mugabe: it’s a dog whistle (and not a subtle one) to say that Obama is going to confiscate property from white people and give it to black people.

The answers are yes, and yes.

The uppity meme and narcissism meme have have been tried before, I guess some group of flacks decided to rev up their communication machines of some kind or another and put out the word to give the ‘uppity’ another try. And these people are stupid, so they copy from one another.

That Shapiro column was the dumbest thing I have read in a long time.

You know, I have confessions. I did a lot of work for two old gals who owned a ranch up in the Sierra hills. They had been ‘friends’ living together for decades. People noted with a little wink that they were long time ‘friends’. Clearly, though straight myself, I am comfortable with a radical lesbian and gay lifestyle that subversively masquerades as something else, and have an unconscious tolerance of hidden sexual deviance type menaces that threaten society from within, even from a seemingly nice, but actually degenerate pair of old ranch gals who made their workers lemonade and cookies for snacks.

At one time, I guess I was six or seven, I also wanted to be a tough marine who worked his way up from a jarhead who fought hand to hand combat on beach heads to become an officer with a chest full of medals, and I would command men in dire battle, and win miraculous victories even though half my forces were wiped out by larger enemy forces. Clearly I am, really, deep inside a homicidal maniac who wants to kill men, and march them to their deaths with sadistic glee.

I probably have some Julius Caesar or Napoleon complex.

Yes, they must. It is the only rational explanation. Democrats are like cats. They don’t coordinate, at least mine don’t. *

*This may not be true. I have two cats and every morning the one wih the type A personality wakes me up for food while the timid one waits quietly outside my bedroom door but still partakes in half the cat chow. Does that count as coordination?

No, I have always preferred squeezing.

    @D-boy:

I always thought the weirdest right-wing meme was the whole “ramming it down our throats” thing during the heath care reform debate

HCR was a big package and very hard for Obama. It is not surprising that the Virgin Ben would be a bit timid though perhaps strangely excited the first time such a very large legislative package was rammed down his throat. Oddly, Mitch McConnel seemed to take it all in stride.

Just think of small minds and you have to look no farther for an answer.

Of course Obama is a failure because his vanity goes too far.

    Like I said, small minds.

    @Sasha:

despite the uppity negro bit being thrown about earlier and not sticking, the timing now isn’t just suspect due to the election – the first time it didn’t work, obama was a winning machine. now they think it’ll work because he’s been ‘humbled’ by the election.

second, bush’s book is coming out and he’s being interviewed for it, and as many point out here, it makes him look like a self-centered bastard. so it’s deflection.

“Obama is arrogant” is a long-standing meme among wingnuts.

i have no idea what it’s based in, but it’s been around forever, and it’s everywhere. check out the MSNBC blogs, or anywhere wingnuts gather freely, for a heaping helping.

Obama is arrogant because he’s not acceding to the Republicans’ demands.

Conservatives protecting on Obama again. There’s a surprise. I mean it really takes a mind utterly closed to self-criticism to be an American conservative and accuse someone else of narcissism.

    They coordinate.

It’s a blatantly dishonest attack which could only come from the right wing. Given that left-wingers are getting furious at Obama’s lickspittle Uncle Tom behavior…. well, can’t let THAT idea get into the media, because that might rouse anti-corporate anger. So the right wing pushes the opposite idea.
