Was checking the local newspaper and was appalled to see the Virgin Ben on the op-ed pages:
Third, Obama’s childhood shows us that he was always a narcissist concerned with his own power. Not only did he want to be president, he thought the presidency was all about him. Soldiers were there for defending him; businessmen were there for supporting him. Presidents were kings. That’s why he wanted to be president.
The other day, one of the stooges at Tucker Carlon’s vanity project was calling Obama the “Narcissist in Chief,” and now a Weekly Standard flunky is out with the following:
Why has Barack Obama failed so spectacularly? Is he too dogmatically liberal or too pragmatic? Is he a socialist, or an anticolonialist, or a philosopher-president? Or is it possible that Obama’s failures stem from something simpler: vanity. Politicians as a class are particularly susceptible to mirror-gazing. But Obama’s vanity is overwhelming. It defines him, his politics, and his presidency.
The title of the piece is “American Narcissus,” and like the Virgin Ben, it quotes from his books to draw a deeper, more sinster meaning that all the rest of us missed.
Do they coordinate these memes? Or is there just a rotating file of bullshit and sometimes it just seems like they are coordinating.
Angry Black Lady
oh for fuck’s sake. if he was a narcissist concerned with his own power, he would be doing all kinds of shit by edict and by stroking his pen instead of consistently attempting to work with the assholes on the right.
i hate people.
They’ve been calling him uppity since before the grecian columns at the convention.
@Angry Black Lady:
We just got back from seeing Inside Job. A more correct summation of our sentiment could not exist.
(Seriously, everyone needs to go see it – it may be the best documentary I’ve seen in…well, a long time. I’m going to go take my money out of my TBTF bank in cash just to piss them off and put it in a local credit union next week. Edit: but more needs to be done than that…it’s just a start.)
Tomorrow on MTP one of the lackeys will repeat the same meme. We have been down this road before and considering the unemployment rate is higher that 9%, the Presidents popularity is still pretty high. (between 45% and 48%) They have to take if down a few points in order to beat him in 2012.
@Angry Black Lady:
I hate people on the right also,too.
lol Virgin Ben blowing shit out of his ass and expecting everyone to take him seriously merely because he exists is not narcissistic.
The whole foundation of the conservatives of today is, “we’re rich white people, ergo everything we say is right.” forevah and evah.
Davis X. Machina
@Angry Black Lady:
Projection. 100% pure and simple projection.
If you want to know what the GOP would do the moment they come into an office, look at what they accuse the Democrat of doing now who’s in that place.
It’s called projection. They do it all the time.
Coordinate. You’ll know when the Kens and Barbies at FOX all start talking about it.
They’re all pandering to the same audience.
Blackity black black black
@Cacti: PWB. What it all comes down to in the end.
Yeah, that’s sort of what I’m thinking. (I haven’t read the article, but saw excerpts.)
There’s a growing movement from what I’ve read to pull money out (in cash, not electronically) from banks in Europe by early December. It seems the same could be done everywhere.
Demkat620 and Davis X. Machina are coordinating their memes.
Is meme-coordinating being coordinated?
If he would just use the bully pulpit, the media would be too intimidated to say mean things about him. Right?
I’d say they coordinate…remember “dithering”?
Hate to break it to ya John, but the uppity negro meme never left!
joe from Lowell
Wait wait wait…the president who’s defining characteristic of his campaign and first two years has been a steadfast refusal to hit back against attacks, in order to focus on achieving as many substantive accomplishments as possible, is a narcissist?
The guy who made a point of making the tax cuts in the Recovery Act as invisible as possible, so they’d have the greatest stimulatory effect, is a narcissist? Oh, that must be why he didn’t send out checks, preceded by “You’re going to get a check,” letters with his name on them, like George W. Bush. Because he’s a narcissist.
These people’s writing about Barack Obama always, always, always turns out to be a thinly-veiled map of their own psyches.
PWD, not PWB. They’d to the same thing to any Democrat who was president, as their bullshit with Clinton showed. The exact meme they choose depends on who they’re trying to take down, but they’d be trotting out some kind of bullshit for any Democratic president.
Does Ben blow dead goats?
I don’t think Obama has failed.
He has a solid list of accomplishments.
He has a longer list of things that are still in the works. Some deeds take a while to accomplish.
Besides, I always knew he wouldn’t succeed at everything. Nobody could.
If I were grading Obama on his presidency, I would give him a B+ for a midterm grade and see what happens next.
Of course the attacks are coordinated. Where have you been for the past 30 years?
@Linda Featheringill: Do you really think that paragraph makes any sense?
Basically he’s saying Obama has failed because he succeeded.
It’s not just projection, it is plain and simple abusive manipulation. It is the exact same behavior that child and spouse abusers use on their targets to incite their own rage and excuse their beatings and degrading rants.
While the preznit evidently shops for a new, more better teleprompter, Eric Cantor takes the Treason Trail.
These guys all have IOKIYAR scratched on their foreheads, don’t they.
Let’s analyze Ben Shapiro. Grew up in a wealthy religious Jewish home. Went to college and wrote a book about how college students were too sexual and lack conservative religious values. Went to Harvard Law and wrote about how law students were too sexual and lack conservative religious values. Cheer leader for the Iraq war. Didn’t enlist himself, but was perfectly comfortable sending others to fight and die. He apparently had more important things to do including continuing his sage advice about young people, sex, religion and the cultural wars. Wrote about how he waited to have sex for his wedding night.
Now tell me exactly who is narcissitic?
When a wingnut looks at Obama, the lizard brain optic nerve shows them this.
(shrug) This election was all about Revenge Of The White Folks, and we all know that “true progressives” will merrily join in on any and all attacks on Obama. So there’s simply nothing for anyone to lose, doing this kind of shit.
joe from Lowell
You and the author are talking past each other. A Republican doesn’t care about accomplishments. He only cares about power.
Barack Obama’s party lost an election. Big. Ergo, he’s failed – he’s failed at the only relevant measure of success in their world.
Barack Obama sought power in order to do things in the government. Conservatives do things in the government in order to achieve power. Barack Obama’s accomplishments didn’t win him the next election, so in their eyes, he’s a failure. You could give him a list a mile long of Obama’s important accomplishments in order to argue that he isn’t a failure; he’d just think you were making up excuses.
It is all projection/distraction against Bush’s memoirs to try to work up some equivalency between the two, but for Obama it is bad while for Bush it is good.
I recently saw a copy of Bush’s book. In the color photo section in the middle there Bush as president is pitching a ball at a baseball game – one of his most satisfying achievements as president.
I haven’t seen evidence that Obama likes to play dress-up. But Bush sure did – flight suits, semi-military jackets, and all sorts of clothing items from boots to socks to hats with the presidential seal on them.
There’s a department at Koch Industries that develops these and sends them out to all their lackeys who immediately repeat them on the wingnut version of JournoList.
It’s a good thing that so few of our past or present Republican leaders could be described as narcissistic.
Few leaders can carry the weight of such extraordinary, plain-spoken humility as George W. Bush Jr., Dick Cheney, John Boehner, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, John McCain and the like.
Their every pore exudes humility. They are like the American political version of quiet monastic contemplation.
I think ‘coordinate’ is overstating their capacity for organized behavior. Basically, they quote and repeat each other, over and over, in the hopes setting off a viral thread of mutual- and self-reference. As it happens, the world is what it is, and not some other thing… so this sort of game has its limits. Even a coordinated ouflow of assholes can’t fill the entire universe with shit.
@joe from Lowell: To be fair, had the Democrats somehow won, they would still be screaming about Obama being a failure. And they always would.
It would be irresponsible not to speculate.
President’s black, for fuck’s sake! Dammit, why’s he so damn uppity?!
I hate people to nth power.
Perfect description of Dubya, right there.
Good fucking god, just stop, please, stop, there’s only so much bullshit a person can take before they start pulling their hair out, and I’m just about at the limit.
Please, no more, I beg of you, mercy….
Villago Delenda Est
The Virgin Ben and Tucker Carlson are describing Obama’s predecessor, not Obama.
Here’s a nice shot of whisky. I’m gonna drink one and head to azeroth for the duration of the silliness.
Davis X. Machina
My old moral theology professor used to say “90% of human unhappiness comes from the failure to distinguish between means and ends, and between ‘I want…’ and ‘I need…’ — the rest is caused by eating spicy food near bedtime.”
This isn’t a case of IOKIYAR. It’s a case of the Israel exception. The USA is actually #2. Israel is the most important country in the world, so you can betray the USA to support Israel. Where “Israel” actually means the extreme right wing of Likud.
With the K and R backwards.
Villago Delenda Est
Whatever you do in Azeroth, avoid trade chat. On Saturdays, the Obama hating wingtards are out in force, at least on my primary realm.
I always thought the weirdest right-wing meme was the whole “ramming it down our throats” thing during the heath care reform debate
And here comes the next hissy fit from our progressive betters.
Pretty much sums up the winger rock and liberal hardplace Obama is stuck between. But why hasn’t he closed Gitmo.
Only more evidence this country is ungovernable. Idiots in every direction, left and right, and triple so in congress. NIMBY, or whatever it is, it is always something from wienerland USA.
And I know, why doesn’t Obama just say fuck it like GWB, and do what he wants, and to hell with the law and gutless preeners in congress? Must be weakness. eh?
It’s a libel used for propaganda. That is all.
Or, as Lewis Carroll might have written, “When a Republican uses a term, it means what she chooses it to mean, neither more nor less.”
@General Stuck: So you recommend a military “trial” at Gitmo?
If “O” really was a black narcissist wouldn’t these assclowns be able to cite more evidence of that image of usual black dude superiority and nariccism – an unmistakable salami strapped to his leg? After all, the kiddies have already been immunized with the sight of a socked-up codpiece.
Davis X. Machina
The origin of the projection is worth a moment’s reflection.
When I ascribe, reflexively, the same motives to you, and the same intentions to you that I have, it’s probably because I can’t conceive of anyone thinking in any way other than the way I think, or having any goals other than the ones I have.
In other words, the only way that those other meat-puppets can actually be people, as distinct from meat-puppets, — they exist, I can see them outside myself, I can’t deny they exist — is if they are in fact just additional me’s.
And if they are not additional me’s — then it’s open season on them — they’re just meat-puppets, and deserve no regard from me.
It’s the opposite-of-empathy.
It’s a gawd-awful stunted world in those heads, people.
That just reflects the common Republican desire to have the President ram his thing down their throats. They feel guilty about those feelings and complain about him trying even when he isn’t.
J sub D
We get it. If you criticize Obama (facilly and stupidly in this case) the underlying reason is racism.
When I bitch about sending money and troops to support a corrupt and illegitimate government in Afghanistan, it is probably racist. When I bitch about ignoring long established bankruptcy laws to protect unions in the GM bailout, it is probably subconscious racism. When I point out that this adminiswtration trots out state secrecy to avoid answering for wrongdoings committed by the previous administration it is probably racist.
And especially if a couple of dumbshit, team red, armchair psychologists idiotically psychoanalyze Obama (nobody from team blue ever did that to Bush the Lesser) it must be racism and not mindless partisanship.
This makes me think of the Newsweeks story; “How He Did It” about the 2008 campaigns.
The story details how Obama had to get Michelle’s permission to run for President, and how if she had insisted no, he wouldn’t have done it.
Hillary and John McCain both questioned if they should do it (run for Pres) and why they would even want the job.
Who was the one person who was sure of her ascendancy? Of course, Half-term Governor Palin, who single handedly ensured McCain lost. Yet, to read her story, she didn’t hesitate to run for VP or to think she was perfect for President.
But Obama is the narcissist.
@Roger Moore: Perhaps, but I’m more inclined to think that it’s just propaganda as usual. Anything that helps convince the public that Obama is “extreme” thereby helps the Republicans.
Where have you been the last two years? The right hates Obama and, to minimize him, have done everything but refer to him as the HNIC. The right hated Clinton and Carter (and Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry) as well, but there seems to be a little extra when it comes to Obama. Dance around it all you want, the fact that Obama is black is driving a lot of people crazy. Post-racial my ass.
@Roger Moore: I figured as much
Cheryl from Maryland
The President is cool, and they are not.
@General Stuck: “Idiots in every direction, left and right.”
You forgot center, which may well be the most idiotic of all.
I don’t think it’s coordinated, per se. I mean, it’s possible, but it’s just unnecessary. I view it as the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. I think Hillary was misunderstood when she said that. They don’t have to coordinate, they don’t have to get together and plan ahead. The conservative right is just sufficiently unified in opposition of the Democrats the last couple of decades that they’ll hop onto the same bandwagon instantly.
It’s a movement that’s dominated by tribalism anyway, so that must seem natural.
OT, but talking about talking out of both sides of your face:
Cindy McCain Is OK with a Little Bit of Hate
you know what the difference would be if Hillary were president?
A sizable contingent of left fuckistan who currently devote the entirety of their useless lives to cutting down the most accomplished president in recent memory would instead be covering her ass. Barking MISOGYNY like Pavlovian dogs anytime anyone looked cross-eyed at her.
If the military commissions were set up to afford due process standards comparable to the civilian courts, then yes, as long as it was open and fair. MC’s have been around for a long time and the fact Bush’s version was a kangaroo court one, doesn’t mean they cannot be conducted properly.
The left doesn’t seem to want to allow for this, and are opposing mostly due to opposition to Bush, and the right are piss n pants cowards for opposing civilian trials in the states, in NY, which I would much prefer. And congress from both parties are blocking funding for closing gitmo and relocating those prisoners on our soil, to be tried, or whatever.
There are only about 50 left, and no country will take those fifty, and congress both left and right seems unwilling to support any solution, other than keeping Gitmo open and those 50 right there, by blocking funding to do anything.
This was the point I was making, that Obama is not getting any help, neither from elected officials, or the American public in resolving this matter in any way.
Davis X. Machina
It’s like watching a flock of starlings at twilight. There’s no obvious leader, and any one starling is pretty damned stupid (or my cats couldn’t catch the occasional one) but they all move together when they move.
guess he must have called her a c*nt again. Or maybe threatened to cut off her zombie meds.
@General Stuck: The President is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Sometimes you just have to use idioms to explain the idiots.
I personally would recommend a civilian trial in New York. But that would require the WATB politicians in New York to grow a pair and stop blocking the trial. In the mean time, I’d prefer that people not blame Obama when he’s being blocked while trying to do the right thing, and that they instead concentrate on the people who are blocking him.
But that’s just because I have an idea of cause and effect. People who don’t care about that kind of thing can keep ignoring who is actually at fault and continue to blame Obama. They just shouldn’t be surprised when the don’t get anywhere.
If these people aren’t careful, their heads will explode before long. And then won’t 2012 be a cake walk for Democrats?
This whole Obama is a narcissist meme is brewing just as the man who everyone wants to have a beer with but can’t drink beer is running around telling everyone that his worst time in office wasn’t 9/11 or the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqis or thousands of Americans.
No his worst day was getting personally insulted by some singer/celebrity.
What a fucking country.
@J sub D:
And to think people dismiss you guys as “Firebaggers”.
@lamh32: She must have gotten a
horse head in the bedphone call from Rush Limbaugh.
The Uppity Negro meme never left….when did it ever leave?
I was mostly joking. That said, I think that there’s a big chunk of Republican projection going on. They think that the President is supposed to try ramming his program down Congress’s throat, rather than letting Congress write legislation. So they assume that legislation they don’t like comes from the President trying to force it through, not from actual Congressional action.
The Audacity of Hope, p.160:
You see, right-wing meme mongers, he is beyond striving for power and rank and fame! How plainly opposite to narcissistic his very own words show him to be. He is answerable to his own conscience. That gazes back.
Let me get this straight… The last Republican president we had lied to get us into a trillion dollar war so he could be a “war presnit”, then when asked what the worst part of his presidency was, he says “the part when Kanye West called me a racist”.
…And virgin Ben calls OBAMA a narcissist? It’s astonishing how stupid these fucking righties are.
Blackity black black black
ok, this always makes me laugh.
I prefer to reinforce my concept of right wing assholes direct from the source, and so the Virgin Ben is an excellent choice to read and follow on the Twitter. The other day he labeled the “ADF attack on Beck” as “disgusting.” This was the same day that Beck was attacking the ADF, asking if they took money from Soros. This would make the leading institution looking out for Jewish slander part of a spooky Jew’s plot to take over the world, in the minds of Beck’s followers.
But for Ben, Soros is the self-hating Kapo. Yes, I’ve seen him call Soros that in just those words. What. A bastard.
ETA: Ben retweeted one of his idiot followers who said that Obama was incapable of loving anyone but himself. In a moment of bewilderment, I tried to reason with the lady, saying that this meant Obama did not love his daughters. The answer came back, but of course! And if I thought Obama loved his daughters, I needed to stop drinking the Koolaid. ME! I needed to stop drinking the Koolaid! Because I thought Obama loved his daughters!
These people have been driven insane.
@J sub D: Hey, idiot?
You’re destroying the ability to criticize Obama’s policies rationally. Stop now, while you’re behind.
@J sub D:
Well we wouldn’t want a Democrat to protect unions, now would we?
Pajamas Media, particularly the Fedora’d f-ckface Roger L. Simon, has been banging away on the “narcissist” business from the moment Obama was inaugurated. You must be glad you broke off from them, Cole. To again quote Charles Johnson, “PJM has become a kind of World Net Daily-lite.” Marty Peretz is big on the narcissism bit, too. His favorite word is “haughty.”
Simon & Peretz have revealed themselves to be two people who wet themselves whenever they see brown people, so I do agree that the meme has some racial roots.
@Nick: Well, we would, but we’re stuck between J Scrub’s right-wing notion that protecting unions is bad, and your more devious version of fail which is that protecting unions is good, but Obama and the Democrats don’t control the media in this country and anything he does will be spun as a bad idea and therefore be ineffective, so Nothing Can Be Done.
Which one’s worse? Let the reader decide.
Is that you Blanche Lincoln?
St. Newty and the empty-headed Young Guns are already causing regrets:
This is shaping up to be an epic disaster, the next two years. The wingnuts fully believe now that they and Bush have been fully vindicated because the public gave them a big election win after only two years of getting tossed out of power by those same voters, and the voters have become even more reactionary than the politicians, like going to the voting booth out of some half assed hissy fit, and are now sobering up to what they’ve done. Guess what America, it’s too fucking late, now you bought that ticket and we will all take the ride.
The Republic of Stupidity
@Angry Black Lady:
Or getting his picture taken under a huge banner proclaiming Mission Accomplished!™ whilst dressed in a flightsuit w/ matching codpiece…
Or tell the bad guys to ‘Bring it On!™’ or ‘Wanted Dead Or Alive!™’… or any number of other, endlessly idiotic comments…
If I use cleek’s filter for the first time ever on J sub D am I to refer to it as a “jitney filter”?
J sub D
Or follow established law on the difference between secured and unsecured creditors.
When Mulally and the Ford family saved Ford Motor from bankruptcy they mortgaged everything in the the goddam company, including the blue oval, to get enough cash to stay in business, meet payroll and pay suppliers while completely reorganizing the company.
They could not do that today. Lenders would realize that that being a secured creditor doesn’t mean shit anymore if a union is involved. Ford instead would reach for government nipple to suck during a bankruptcy reorganization.
The Republic of Stupidity
@debbie: @mr. whipple:
Rarely have I seen a question answered so succinctly by another question…
With Cindy McCain I’m of the mind to say she’s less about the issue that goes against her crappy hubby for her own belief and more that she’s 1.) looking to earn money and attention. 2.) having an argument with him.
Mostly because she’s not a regular on any issue.
Congressional Dems scattered like cockroaches when it came to shutting down Gitmo or having a civilian trial for KSM.
With friends like these.
ah, another helping from the word salad bar. barack obama is an anti-colonial socialist narcissist with peppercorn dressing and garlic croutons and they’ll just keep going like this until they hit a decent word count.
Obama gets a lot of attention that needs to be directed towards the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate and the House craft the legislation and Obama signs or does not sign the legislation.
While I’m not fond of Obama’s corporate leanings I do realize that all crappy legislation is coming from the both Senate and the House. Which are populated with adults that should NOT have to be required to be spanked by the president, but do have a tendency to be more crack whore on a pay day or drooling dog/cat at meal time for whom ever offer them their craving.
Again with the “anticolonialist” line.
Do these guys not know what side of the anticolonialist debate Jefferson and Franklin and the gang were on?
ah, another helping from the word salad bar. barack obama is an anti-colonial sozialist narcissist with peppercorn dressing and garlic croutons and they’ll just keep going like this until they hit a decent word count.
@jinchi: When they say “anticolonialist” they mean “wog”.
You don’t understand: “anti-colonialist” means “anti-white.” Or, more specifically, “doesn’t think that white people should run everything.” It refers to the independence movements in Africa during the 1950s and 1960s, not the American revolution.
This is also why they compare Obama to Robert Mugabe: it’s a dog whistle (and not a subtle one) to say that Obama is going to confiscate property from white people and give it to black people.
For people who claim not to be racist, they sure keep puking up some seriously racist imagery every time they get a chance.
@J sub D:
Ford also offered his workers twice the normal wage and great working conditions, thereby eliminating the NEED for unions.
You are a smart person
@J sub D:
Still haven’t turned the jitney filter on. Man that’s some grade A “I have no idea what I am talking about” McCardlism you have going on there.
@Cacti: i mean, his agenda, it’s just so big. i can’t believe it’s just so huge, it’s like, out there, i mean — gross. look! he’s just so… black!
@Nick: Congratulations on learning how to partially blockquote. Next I’m sure you’ll get around to three-quarters.
@NobodySpecial: Is this supposed to be a response? lol
I agree this meme never really went away. But I think it’s enjoying a resurgence because of Bush’s book. I mean fucking nothing on this planet would show narcisstic behavior more than the utterly contemptible whine that Kanye West was the low point of his presidency. This is one of Rove’s strategies, take a weakness from your side and accuse the other side of it. Either it’ll be “both are this way,” or if you get the first punch in, when it gets pointed out that you are projecting or whatever, you will have already dealt a punishing blow to the other side.
Glad to see the Kochs and their servants are back to Birchering…
They’re so close now to saying what they want to say, they can taste it.
“He’s a Nih… he’s a Nih… he’s a, uh, uh….
Yeah, that’s it.
The anti colonialist crap is from Dinesh D’Souza who is from the anglicized/portuguesized Indian diaspora who were kind of the Uncle Toms in Indian society during the colonial era.
When I said I was suspicious of Republicans who are all progay and shit after years of silence, I didn’t expect to be proven right within hours.
@J sub D:
Yup. You’ve got about 80% of the BJ crowd nailed, J sub D.
Odie Hugh Manatee
Yes, an audience that is so stupid that every time it sees a rerun they think it’s a new show. An audience who grows confused if there is more than one ring in a circus. An audience whose curiosity and depth of intellect are that of a small and well-used watering hole.
In the middle of a drought.
On another note, there seems to be a lot of flies around here tonight. Oh, Wyld is still crapping the SOS all over the place.
@Odie Hugh Manatee:
And I see you’re still so fucking stupid that you don’t even realize that what you wrote is a a perfect description of the lemming-like behavior of most of the posters here. Most of you mouthing the same thing, making the same tired-assed excuses or, when that fails, whipping out the racism card.
I’ve got to hand it to you, ruemara, you nailed that.
The only redeeming thing is that the decent stuff she said in the commercial will get way more play than the Tweet.
I sort of feel sorry for her. I would be willing to bet that McCain fucking had a conniption and bullied her into making the retraction.
@Angry Black Lady:
Take a close and hard look at President Obama…he is doing exactly what he said he would do while running for office. He operates in the long term unlike his electorate who cannot bear or deal with ambiguity or shades of gray.. he is on the track for America’s future not America’s past.
Read Phillip Bobbitt,both Obama and McCain did.
Odie Hugh Manatee
Sorry, you must have me confused with someone who is stupid enough to give a shit about the crap you endlessly spout. Carry on though because that’s some mighty fine Grade-A fertilizer you’ve been spreadin’ around these here parts.
It’s good for the crops!
…and this is like anal rape how, exactly?
If you tease it, it will lay an egg.
ah, gotcha. knew there had to be something.
Shapiro is also the guy that called Rahm Emmanuel, or maybe David Axelrod, a capo because they weren’t sufficiently pro-Israel, dumb on many levels (Axelrod’s family were from Shoa survivors and Emmanuel’s dad was in the Irgun for fuck’s sake). Shapiro is like the right’s Marty Beckerman, only to Beckerman’s credit he’s at least entertaining (sometimes) and insightful (occasionally), Shapiro is a self righteous ass who just spews out vitriol and bullshit. It’s like he’s like the offspring of Marty Peretz and Michelle Bachmann.
“Do they coordinate these memes? Or is there just a rotating file of bullshit and sometimes it just seems like they are coordinating.”
Don’t have time to read all the comments, but I did a search for ‘fax’, ‘txt’ ‘text’ ’email’ and ‘e-mail’ and didn’t find anything, so thought I would chime in.
The answers are yes, and yes.
The uppity meme and narcissism meme have have been tried before, I guess some group of flacks decided to rev up their communication machines of some kind or another and put out the word to give the ‘uppity’ another try. And these people are stupid, so they copy from one another.
That Shapiro column was the dumbest thing I have read in a long time.
You know, I have confessions. I did a lot of work for two old gals who owned a ranch up in the Sierra hills. They had been ‘friends’ living together for decades. People noted with a little wink that they were long time ‘friends’. Clearly, though straight myself, I am comfortable with a radical lesbian and gay lifestyle that subversively masquerades as something else, and have an unconscious tolerance of hidden sexual deviance type menaces that threaten society from within, even from a seemingly nice, but actually degenerate pair of old ranch gals who made their workers lemonade and cookies for snacks.
At one time, I guess I was six or seven, I also wanted to be a tough marine who worked his way up from a jarhead who fought hand to hand combat on beach heads to become an officer with a chest full of medals, and I would command men in dire battle, and win miraculous victories even though half my forces were wiped out by larger enemy forces. Clearly I am, really, deep inside a homicidal maniac who wants to kill men, and march them to their deaths with sadistic glee.
I probably have some Julius Caesar or Napoleon complex.
But, hey I guess I am your typical liberal progressive after all.
The best response to “Obama is a narcissist” is the old Letterman clip of George Bush cleaning his glasses on a woman’s sweater.
@Davis X. Machina:
Not projection. Displacement.
The last great champion of the political right recently declared that the worst part about Katrina wasn’t that New Orleans drowned, but that a rapper dissed him. And the thing that bugs him most about the Iraq War isn’t the cost in money or lives or that it was badly prosecuted or that the reasons to invade were non-existent, but that the Mission Accomplished banner made him look bad.
They can’t acknowledge Bush’s narcissism — their heads would explode — so they do the next best thing and find a scapegoat to embody his faults.
kommrade reproductive vigor
Back? I didn’t notice it had gone away.
They really do think they’re the only ones who’ve noticed Obama is … BLACK. So they keep trying to find the right way to subtly point it out, which will trigger a mass freak out and result in him being booted from the White House.
Sigh… Ben somehow graduated from UCLA with absolutely no critical thinking skills. I don’t know how… oh wait, I do. He was a political science major.
You wanted to be Chesty Puller when you were a kid?
(Apparently that was his real surname. Truth and fiction and strangeness and all that.)
Yes, they must. It is the only rational explanation. Democrats are like cats. They don’t coordinate, at least mine don’t. *
*This may not be true. I have two cats and every morning the one wih the type A personality wakes me up for food while the timid one waits quietly outside my bedroom door but still partakes in half the cat chow. Does that count as coordination?
No, I have always preferred squeezing.
HCR was a big package and very hard for Obama. It is not surprising that the Virgin Ben would be a bit timid though perhaps strangely excited the first time such a very large legislative package was rammed down his throat. Oddly, Mitch McConnel seemed to take it all in stride.
Just think of small minds and you have to look no farther for an answer.
Of course Obama is a failure because his vanity goes too far.
Like I said, small minds.
despite the uppity negro bit being thrown about earlier and not sticking, the timing now isn’t just suspect due to the election – the first time it didn’t work, obama was a winning machine. now they think it’ll work because he’s been ‘humbled’ by the election.
second, bush’s book is coming out and he’s being interviewed for it, and as many point out here, it makes him look like a self-centered bastard. so it’s deflection.
“Obama is arrogant” is a long-standing meme among wingnuts.
i have no idea what it’s based in, but it’s been around forever, and it’s everywhere. check out the MSNBC blogs, or anywhere wingnuts gather freely, for a heaping helping.
Obama is arrogant because he’s not acceding to the Republicans’ demands.
Conservatives protecting on Obama again. There’s a surprise. I mean it really takes a mind utterly closed to self-criticism to be an American conservative and accuse someone else of narcissism.
It’s a blatantly dishonest attack which could only come from the right wing. Given that left-wingers are getting furious at Obama’s lickspittle Uncle Tom behavior…. well, can’t let THAT idea get into the media, because that might rouse anti-corporate anger. So the right wing pushes the opposite idea.
