Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

The revolution will be supervised.

No one could have predicted…

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Second rate reporter says what?

Consistently wrong since 2002

The words do not have to be perfect.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

This story from TPM about how Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert had a college art gallery director fired for calling Gohmert a “fear-monger” is depressing.

Today is one of those days I’m not so confident that non-white voters will be able to prevent this country from turning into a theocratic dictatorship with daily mandatory body scans for all.

    Does he not realize that he’s trying to stir up fear?

    I mean, let’s pretend that he honestly believes the codswallop he’s selling. He’s saying “This is something you need to stop, because it would be very, very bad. You need to understand the threat here. If you don’t agree with me, you’re a fool. Fear will save us; foolishness will not.”

    On the other hand, it may be that he’s an oversensitive moron who only knows when he’s being insulted. So.

    Considering our non-white President will probably abuse the State Department loophole to keep a garrison of US troops in Iraq long past 2011 in consideration of the deteriorating security situation, I think it’s abundantly clear that racial identity is no match for the awesome power of the moneyed interests that truly matter in this world.

    In thirty years, we’ll still be bitching about President Alvarez and Congressman Chang doing the same bullshit that politicians do today. Because, honestly, where are Lockheed Martin and Goldman Sachs going?

    “I did not ask for that guy to be fired, frankly I would have preferred he hadn’t been for this very reason [that] I would be blamed even though yall said he was a problem and there were other issues,” he wrote. “But doing what I didn’t ask for in dismissing that the manipulative liar and then confusing to make ANY statement about what was done is hanging me out to dry for something I did not do.” [sic]

    @Keith G:

    The edit function wouldn’t let me add this short excerpt from Chris Hedges book, Death Of The Liberal Class

    In a traditional democracy, the liberal class functions as a safety valve. It makes piecemeal and incremental reform possible. It offers hope for change and proposes gradual steps toward greater equality. It endows the state and the mechanisms of power with virtue. It also serves as an attack dog that discredits radical social movements, making the liberal class a useful component within the power elite.

    In case you wondered how Texas delivers the quality of criminal justice that it does, bear in mind that Gomer was a TX state court judge before jumping over to the legislative branch of the federal government. He was also a Jag-officer in the army.

    I often wonder how the Democrats can compete with a party completely unmoored from reality and a public unwilling to think more than 2 feet in front of their face. If the GOP just drops the xenophobia, homophobia, sexism & racism, you are right, we will be doomed.

    GOP tells everyone we can have our cake (high services) and eat it too (low taxes). Along with the misdirection (gub’mint is the problem, look at those immigrants stealing your jobs, etc.) it’s no surprise we’re where we are.

    It would help if Democrats, you know, actually stood up for themselves instead of pre-emptively caving on everything. But for right now it’s the GOP’s own social conservatism/craziness that’s keeping the country afloat (by turning off enough voters that they vote Democrat). Sad.

    A lot of the fault here lies with the university that fired Cutler. I suspect that Gohmert also had phone conversations with the high-ups where the topic of “defunding” came up, and the university ran for the hills.

    Also too, is it me, or does Gohmert’s letter suggest near illiteracy? He certainly doesn’t seem able to write acceptable English. Could he be a terrorist anchor Congressman?

    @morzer:

    Nope, just a stupid, venal, nasty guy who makes sure west Texas oil and gas interests are allowed to pollute their balls off at taxpayer subsidized rates.

    That’s why this racial theory of harmony doesn’t make any sense. What’s to stop hypothetical Congressman Louie Gomez from doing this shit and abusing his power when he winds up in office on the take?

    @ThatLeftTurnInABQ:

    I’m confused: is Gohmert somehow internalizing the self-centered whiny emo vibe from pop culture generally, or is this “yeah I got him fired, hey, why are you saying I got him fired?” shit like the Virginia Thomas/Dick Cheney “I’m going to demonstrate how much more powerful I am than you by demanding that you apologize for my fuck-up” progression above and beyond simple bitch-slap politics?

    I mean, either way, he’s a delusional douchebag, but I can’t tell how to balance my competing instincts to laugh at and fear his rhetoric.
