    Our markup profit in there is very small, actually, with $4 being the average. We get $3 for a mug, $5 on the aprons. CafePress takes the lion’s share of the sale price for sure! The profit to us on the calendar is abnormally “high” at $7.01.

    However…they’ve got a really fabulous tiered bonus commission structure based on total gross sales. We’ve just reached the highest tier possible – 25%.

    Therefore, from this point on, for each $22 calendar sale, we get not only the $7.01 in markup profit, we also get an additional $5.50! (That’s 25% of $22, right?)
    That’s $12.51 for every calendar sold! Charlie’s Angels is getting over half the sale price back in commissions from this point forward till month’s end. Likewise all other merchandise sold at this point nets us not only our small markup but 25% of the list price. Very exciting.

    Thanks to everyone for a truly remarkable month. Evelyn Bridges and her volunteers are ecstatic, to say the least. They have to work very hard at fundraisers on the ground to make this kind of money, so this is a huge blessing for them and they remind me/us every chance they get. This check will come to them in mid-Jan, when they will surely need it in a huge way.

    Speaking of critters, though no rescue, about every 3 or 4 years we get an overpopulation of mice, and the little shits come inside to play house. This is one of those years, so I’ve been on a non stop mouse hunt for a couple of weeks now. In this part of the country, letting mice come inside and live can have dire consequences, as they carry the dread Hantavirus, and sometimes the bubonic plague from fleas.

    I think I’ve wasted them all with traps, so now every nook and cranny has to be cleaned and sprayed with bleach, because it is inhaling their feces and dried urine that contain the Hantavirus, which has a survival rate of around 30 percent if you get it, and is something you don’t want to get. It is fairly rare, but still.

    And Charlies has been scouting them, I figure he can hear their scratching around, so he goes to a wall or cabinet and the tail starts wagging like crazy, I guess thinking he found a potential critter pal, or something.

    My September is different from the image above. It looks like all the same pictures but in different spots. I haven’t looked at any of the other months. Is this a bug or a feature?

    PS. Is it a bad thing that it took me a couple minutes to be sure the Lily looking dog to the left of Lily was not actually my Ellie? (and I would still not be shocked to find out that it is actually her)

    @MattR: Great question! Thanks for asking!

    I fucked up big by mistakenly omitting stuckinred’s Lil Bit and Bohdi. As he’d had trouble in the first place getting his photos to me, and was one of the very first to submit photos AND to buy the calendar the night it launched, I redid Sept. to add his kids in there. People who have purchased calendars since that time, maybe two weeks ago, will have the Sept. collage rearranged differently, and his two dogs will be included. That was the only change.

    I would also like to mention that the very soulful Uma passed away after the calendar was created. You can see her full photo here, under September’s page.

    @Laura W.: Thx. Can you give me a hint where on the image above his two critters are? I don’t feel like doing a manual comparison of all the pictures. And don’t think you’ve fooled me. This was all a ploy to get us to buy an extra copy with the corrected September :)

    I got mine, and I can vouch that these are really nice calendars. Of course, no calendar is worth $20. But knowing that there is a nice commission for the pet kids makes it worth the price. If you can afford one, buy it!

    I’ve said it before, and agree with Obama on this analysis, that letting the debate go on for so long, hurt democrats by allowing the wingnuts to organize and demagogue HCR, especially to seniors. But there is no playbook on these things, and most folks on the left, myself included, didn’t foresee the teatards coming like they did, and being flufffed by the media to the degree they did.

    Live and learn, I guess. HCR still passed. Good to see Obama acknowledge this error without getting all maudlin about it. Part was his fault, and part the senates. Mostly the senate members preening themselves, like they do.
