Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

No one could have predicted…

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

I can’t survive the next two years if it’s all Palin, all the time.

I was watching HGTV the other day, and this couple moved to some remote island in New Zealand. I’m thinking of doing the same until Nov 3rd, 2012.

PS, I do think it’s cool if there were riots in the street if Bristol wins Dancing with the Stars tomorrow.

I thought the same thing in regards to hiding non-weapon, non-contraband items under my clothing. Would the fact that it was concealed put me in some sort of legal jeopardy (would it be considered “smuggling” if it was legal to bring on board regardless)? Would having something that registered with the porno-scan-tron and require a secondary inspection also subject me to fines or other unpleasantness?

Would anything non-metal, non-volatile, non-prohibited (like dirty pictures) be legally OK to conceal under garments or in orifices? Like Lewis Black said recently on TDS, “New York to LA in six hours *AND* I get my junk fondled? Sign me up!”

I prefer the UK response to the 7/7 Tube bombing attack (i.e. the “I am not afraid” campaign”) – Instead, we’re stuck with “Please don’t start a police state on my account.”

Who wants to bet that there’d be a TSA black market in “nekkid” scan photos of celebs and other “oddities” of the “hidden world” (Q: would crossdressers and transgendered people be given further “scrutiny” for being seen as being “deceptive” in a sense? There’s already issues on which bathroom they should use. Furthermore, would they need a TSA agent of their particular “status” to be “non-offensive/non-intrusive”?)

Just as there’s already been much abuse of the Patriot Act infringement of rights, this will undoubtably be no different.

The New York Times has an interesting article about how some upstart writer, by the name of Mark Twain, has been an unexpected success with his recent autobiography. Not too bad for a feller who’s been dead for more than a few years (Mark Twain’s Autobiography Flying Off the Shelves).

In advance of the holidays, here’s Twain on the meaning of Thanksgiving:

“Thanksgiving Day, a function which originated in New England two or three centuries ago when those people recognized that they really had something to be thankful for — annually, not oftener — if they had succeeded in exterminating their neighbors, the Indians, during the previous twelve months instead of getting exterminated by their neighbors the Indians. Thanksgiving Day became a habit, for the reason that in the course of time, as the years drifted on, it was perceived that the exterminating had ceased to be mutual and was all on the white man’s side, consequently on the Lord’s side, consequently it was proper to thank the Lord for it.”

Just finished reading Krugman’s piece again, and in it’s entirety. He is spot on, and IF he stays on directing his fire towards the wingers, he could be a powerful warrior in the MSM for dems, and the dem/liberal cause.

The wingnuts are not going to let up until one of two things happen, either bring the country to it’s knees, or Obama agreement to repeal or gut HCR. Passing HCR is the bee in their bonnet, and Obama done pissed in their conservative punch, by passing the last leg of The New Deal, or universal health care they had managed to defeat from every liberal great white hope, every time it was tried, up until recent.

I don’t think Obama will pay that price, because if he did, it would mean the end to the dem party. It is going to be all existential party warfare all the time for the foreseeable future, with House wingnuts threatening to use their Doomsday Budget Ceiling Device, at least in rhetoric right now.

I saw a clip this morning of Palin shooting skeet with Bristol and some other ass clowns from Alaska.

It is easy as hell to tell that Palin has next to zero experience with handling firearms given her unease with the shotgun she had in her hands. She looked like a complete fucking n00b with that thing in her hands. Awkward grip and stance. No swing and lead on the target. It was as if it was the first time she has ever had a shotgun in her hands.

Your biggest problem is that you don’t think and don’t see what is happening before y9our very eyes.

Obama isn’t going to have much choice in the matter re:HCR. The Rethugs will take the White House and the Senate in 2012 before the part of HCR that will be really impactful takes effect.

Secondly, President Foldbama is probably going to go with hat in hand to make nice with the very assholes that are out to knife him in the back– the US Chamber of Commerce.

Why? Because deep down Obama was never what progressives thought he was as Krugman aptly points out:

As Ferguson explains, this is a right-wing smear. What actually happened was that during the interregnum between the 1932 election and the1933 inauguration — which was much longer then, because the inauguration didn’t take place until March — Herbert Hoover tried to rope FDR into maintaining his policies, including rigid adherence to the gold standard and fiscal austerity. FDR declined to be part of this.
But Obama buys the right-wing smear.

Salon’s Alex Pareene is running a series on the thirty worst political pundits in America. Bobo comes in at number thirty, his contributions summed up thusly:

He is simply the laziest smart writer on the planet.

    Pat Caddell at number 27:

His Op-Eds with Schoen are generally so insipid and divorced from observable reality that they’re practically guaranteed publication in our major newspapers.

    Jeffrey Goldberg at 26:

There’s a special circle of hell for the journalist whose mendacity or incompetence directly leads to actual war.

And the Mickster comes in at 25:

Mickey Kaus has been blogging about politics for what feels like 100 years (at Slate for most of that time, until he decided to run for office at around the same time that the editors realized he was disastrously overpaid) and in all that time he’s never stopped claiming to be a Democrat despite his obvious hatred for the Democratic Party and all of its horrible supporters and politicians.
