This is priceless:
I’m wondering how long it will take for the wingnut blogs to notice DeLay is going to the big house.
And if you are wondering why none of them have commented yet, it is because they have not figured out a way to blame this on Obama or the Democrats nor have they come up with someone to point their fingers to in the Democratic party and say “He’s worse!” As soon as one of the upper tier wingnuts gives the marching order and figures out how to blame this on Democrats, they’ll start their little echo chamber.

Keep your eye on Fux News today; Tom Delay (D-TX)
Citizen Alan
Five bucks says Fox identifies him as a Democrat at some point.

@bcinaz: @Citizen Alan:
As inevitable as the sunrise.

I like to see who it is that first trots out the days marching orders. I expect to hear lots about Rangle too. You know that will be a great big twinkie they will want to dangle out there.
Going from Dancing the the stars to Dancing behind bars. I wonder if he will be the Hammer in prison? I wonder if he will even talk about hammering while in prison?
roshan
Actually, Fox News went with this on their website:
It’s just a misfortune that wrecked DeLay. If he repented, he would be born again which makes him twice better than anyone else. He should just say that he is born again and it will be all better, coz repenting means he committed a sin which will confuse the “real amuricans”.
Poopyman
BTW, and also too O/T, TBogg has reminded us that it’s time for a holiday classic, with a tag that is soooo appropriate.
BudP
Why hasn’t Obama pardoned Tom Delay!?! This was a partisan witch-hunt, and Obama is supposedly post-partisan. Clinton pardoned Marc Rich. It’s an OUTRAGE!!!
mr. whipple
One of the jurors was seen reading The Nation! Time for a countertop check.

At the bottom of Cole’s link:
From Fox Nation:

Happy Thanksgiving, Cole – and all.
MattF
Well, it’ll be some mixture of: 1) Austin is where the Texas libruls are and they did a number on DeLay, 2) money laundering is a form of free speech, 3) DeLay is innocent by definition, and go fuck yourself.
Xanthippas
Us Texas Dems are pretty pleased. Happy Thanksgiving to us!

My bookie tells me to go with “corrupt…partisan…democrat d.a…….with a hard-on for…..

Man, I can’t remember a better birthday week, for which I am truly thankful. The Salon Hack 30, Bristol going down in defeat with the same humility and grace as her mother, the FRC goes onto the SPLC hate group list, and now Delay is a convicted felon who may do some time and who will no longer be able to vote. I haven’t laughed and rejoiced so much in…well, I simply can’t think of when that last happened.
Linda Featheringill
@gizzi:
I was wondering about the name of the prosecutor. This trial was probably make-or-break for his career. Bear in mind that he was win a conviction [which he did] and still lose his career. It might be interesting to see what happens with him.
T.F. Gumby
John Cole’s posts on Charlie Rangel must still be in moderation.
Talk about echo chambers.
Dino
Here you go:
Tom DeLay prosecutor
tied to Miers-run lottery
Ronnie Earle received illegal contribution
from Ben Barnes with no consequence

It’s dated 2005, but I am sure they can brush off the dust.
Stan of the Sawgrass
I figure that wingnutopia will go with “liberal Austin jury” as the meme.
Hey, the forewoman was ‘connected’ with Greenpeace! If you can’t connect her with George Soros in two moves or less, you shouldn’t be playing this game.
General Stuck
LOL, precisely, they are a temporarily a little flummoxed, I suspect, with the potential Everest size mountain of hypocrisy it would be to go against the prevailing teatard meme of corrupt and evil government. But they will eventually figure out a way, at least in their lizard heads, on how to thread that needle. I suspect they are studying all the players countertops to gather what support they can for another round of liberal skullduggery behind Mr. Delay’s bad luck.
And Happy Turkey day to all juicers. This little gift from the magi on the Hamma goin; to the Slamma, made my holiday.
cheers

@T.F. Gumby: Here’s a useful tip: A little research can prevent you from looking like a complete idiot. Just sayin’.

@Stan of the Sawgrass:
You can count on most of the response being like this one:
John Cole’s posts on Charlie Rangel must still be in moderation.
Talk about echo chambers.
Charlie Rangel! Maxine Waters!
Or, as John Cole said, “…someone to point their fingers to in the Democratic party and say “He’s worse!”
John Cole
@T.F. Gumby: Nope. It is right where it has been since I posted it the day Rangel was found guilty.
Clown.
Svensker
@Ash Can:
Naw, that won’t work either.
Citizen_X
@John Cole: Well, it’s not like he’d actually look or anything.
Odie Hugh Manatee
@John Cole:
Fix’t.

@roshan:
What this fuck is that? They can only collect money in discrete bundles?
junebug
@Dino:
World Nut Daily? Really?
While Ronnie Earl brought the initial charges, he did not prosecute this case.
@Linda Featheringill:
Here’s your man.
ricky
The Democratic incumbents Delay targeted, first in the Texas House, then the US House have already been sentenced to time served by voters. Crime paid.
ricky
@junebug:
Rosemary Lehmberg was Ronnie Earle’s top assistant and won election to replace him when he retired largely onb expectations she would vigorously pursue the Delay case.
She tied her opponent to lobbyists, largely because the main opponent was the daughter of a former State Senator who drew on her dad’s Austin lobby connections for her campaign money. ( Her Dad was also Chancellor of Texas Tech and responsible for hiring Bobby Knight, but this was never used as an issue. Austin is still a football town.)
balboa
Molly Ivins is smiling down on us this Thanksgiving!
Poopyman
@Svensker: He’s counting on folks either not having any memory or not being able to do simple searches. After all, it works for Fox.
junebug
@ricky:
You are assuming I didn’t know that why?
13th Generation
But, But, Charlie Rangle..
Svensker
@Poopyman:
Honestly, I don’t think it goes that far. It’s just the way they don’t think. I have a friend who sends me every “OMG the sky is falling a virus is coming to eat your computer!” chain email she gets, and every time I send her a link debunking the email to which she replies, “oh, thanks, I was worried!” Then the next panic email comes and she does it again — it never occurs to her, gee, maybe my friend has an idea, and I could google this before I panic. Nope, panic and hit forward is her motto.
Same with these guys. They just reflexively see and believe what they see and believe, no point thinking about it or checking. What they’ve been told is true in their unreflective little heads. Perhaps Karl Rove and his ilk think about the strategy. These sad proles just swallow the bait and praise their gracious overlords as they get popped into the frying pan. Sizzle sizzle!
Fat Tony
Nothing “little” about that echo chamber.
PS- Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
burnspbesq
@MattF:
You forgot 4) Citizens United invalidates the Texas statute that prohibited corporate campaign contributions, and you can’t punish DeLay for serving as a conduit for legal campaign contributions. I’d bet $20 that that argument shows up on appeal, and those lunatics on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals just might buy it.
burnspbesq
@T.F. Gumby:
There was ample discussion of Rangel at the time the Ethics Committee findings were announced. There was never any doubt about what Rangel did or whether it violated House rules. The only item open for discussion was the sanction.
Try harder next time. You’re embarrassing yourself.
asiangrrlMN
God. This is still as tasty today as it was last night. I still cannot believe it. Happy sigh.
@geg6: Happy birthday. Glad it’s been a happy week for ya!
Triassic Sands
But is he going to prison? Yesterday in the NYTimes:
And if he can choose probation, can’t he sentence Delay to 5 years and suspend 3, or 4, or all of it?
I won’t be satisfied until Delay is in uniform, behind bars, and fighting over which bunk he gets — top or bottom. Conviction without actual prison time just won’t do.
SectarianSofa
@Xanthippas:
Word.
Turgid Jacobian
@me: To be fair, yes.
James E. Powell
If the prosecution and judge are really out for justice, Delay will not get probation unless he sings like a canary. I am sure Delay does not want to go to prison at all, let alone for a long time. The people handling this must know that they have the political corruption equivalent of Sammy “The Bull” Gravano.
Consider how much clearer our understanding of American politics and our recent history would be if we knew only half of what Delay knows.
Liberty60
Oh, but doncha know, Rep. Conyers was caught LOOKING AT A PLAYBOY!!!! ZOMG!!
Mr. Prosser
DeLay will never serve any time, he may very well be cleared on appeal and either way will spend the rest of his life as an embarassing little git who runs a “consulting” firm. He’ll be trotted out occassionally to provide expert comment on political shows and become BFF with Pat Caddell and Dick Morris.
xian
the sentencing phase may include some interesting Ambramoffiana
4jkb4ia
The NYT story was begging them to be able to comment when it said that DeLay was convicted on a mountain of circumstantial evidence.
