Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Optimism opens the door to great things.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Early Morning Open Thread: Small, Networked World

Gawker (Gizmodo) told me about this, and later let me know that it did indeed reach Walter C. May’s girlfriend…. virally. Comments seem to be split between snark about linking ‘viral’ and ‘girlfriend’, and the suspicion that the whole thing is just another marketing ploy. As an Old Person, the thought of being tracked-via-proxy seems a little more Stalker than Romantic, but on the other hand, it’s a pleasant little ditty, isn’t it?

    Morning, Anne!
I think I heard of this yesterday. Yeah, there are other things going on in the world besides the Wikileaks thing.
I get the impression it’s a low level marketing ploy for the band/songwriter. If somebody wanted to get a digital file to someone else, wouldn’t one just email it? Still, it’s clever.

I dunno about creepy — the article left me with the impression that she would have welcomed this message whether or not he had sent it to her directly, and that the guy was just having fun with the viral aspect as a gimmick. It does show how easily stuff can spread on the intertubes, though (especially when it has a good beat and you can dance to it).

If someone went through all that trouble for me – are you kidding? Epic win! It’ll be a great story to tell the grandkids.

    @jeffreyw:

Your turducken pot pie would have made me her get nekkid for you. Also, too.

A presenter on Radio Four burbled this morning that Julian Assange is apparently believed to be hiding out somewhere in the “Birmingham area”.

Now I understand why the cops are out and about baiting bear traps with corporate hard drives in my neighborhood.

I am just over 30 and I also agree: creepy.

Listening to the song again it has a Peter Gabriel vibe, which then of course made me think of this. It would work for me.

Oh god. Haven’t any of you seen the movie “Labyrinth”, of which this is a blatant ripoff.

    Are pet threads on hiatus?

Don’t need one every single day, but it’s rather nice to see the beloved dog and cat faces a few times a week.

There will be pet posts. Don’t have so many we can enjoy them every day, but I’ve got a few more waiting for the right opportunity…
