Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

People are complicated. Love is not.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

You cannot shame the shameless.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

He really is that stupid.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

This is what you get when you don’t send pet stories to Anne Laurie. See what you did?

you know MM…all those old biddies attacking me on the cudlips thread remind me so much of my catholic school all-grrl production of the Music Man.
    guess who i played?

Professor, her kind of woman doesn’t belong on any committee.
Of course, I shouldn’t tell you this but she advocates dirty books.

    Dirty books!

    Chaucer!
    Rabelais!
    Balzac!

    And the worst thing
Of course, I shouldn’t tell you this but-
    I’ll tell.
The man lived on my street, let me tell.
    Stop! I’ll tell.
She made brazen overtures to a man who never had a friend
In this town till she came here.

Oh, yes, that woman made brazen overtures
    With a gilt-edged guarantee
She had a golden glint in her eye
And a silver voice with a counterfeit ring
Just melt her down and you’ll reveal
A lump of lead as cold as steel
Here, where a woman’s heart should be!

He left River City the library building
But he left all the books to her
    Chaucer!
    Rabelais!
    Balzac!

Actually, I did send a pet story, complete with pictures, to Anne Laurie, and it has never seen the light of day.

I think I’m in lust. This whole trash emo goth punk thing she’s got going is really intriguing.

Wonder if she’s into balding, middle aged married men?

I think the stories were supposed to be Pet Rescue stories. Pet stories is too broad a classification. Not that there is any thing wrong with that but notice how much attention poor Boghan gets from Uncle John.

But I just can’t get too excited about that or anything else today, because we’ve lost Ron Santo.

I sent my story w pics and all. Is there some kind of selective editing process going on here? Are only those Juicers who spew vitriol towards Hamsher allowed passage into these hallowed halls?

FYI: Julian Assange is meant to be having a live webchat on The Guardian’s site right now. But the page keeps crashing, so I can’t tell whether he’s actually shown up or not.

Guardian live webchats are REALLY annoying. If you want to read, you have to click “go to latest comment” and then keep refreshing to see what’s being discussed. If it’s anyone even remotely newsworthy it always takes ages to load.

And FWIW, I think listening to Shirley Manson is a great way to start a Friday morning.

We’re supposed to get our first snowfall of the season tomorrow here in northern IL. 4-6″ predicted, but throw in the variability of Lake Effect, and who knows?

I’m enjoying the last few hours of clear driveway. Not even thinking about the roads.

After so much bad news lately, the good news is that Garbage is working on a new album, with a tour possible next year.

If you get a chance to see them live, do it.

@Josie: @El Tiburon: I absolutely intend to publish every pet story people send me, and mostly in the order I receive them. Josie, your Teddi and Wiley are currently #3 in the queue. El Tiburon, Alli is at #9.

If anybody else reads this so late, I now have nineteen pet stories lined up… don’t want to be too much of a miser, but it’s nice to be surprised by a special treat sometimes, isn’t it?

And I should say that my definition of “rescue” is pretty broad… anyone who’s been wondering if their story is “topical enough”, the answer is almost certainly YES!
