John Amato noted that the DREAM Act will knock over a billion off of the deficit, and he urges his readers to get on the phone and make it happen. Good on him.

Thank you so much for posting this. I’m thrilled to see this finally up on some blogs. There’s been so much focus on tax cuts this last week, which are important, but meanwhile, we actually have our last, best chance to pass something that begins to fix our broken immigration system, and we need to do everything we can to move people on it.

Spent some time yesterday contacting our senators offices over both of these issues, along with DADT repeal, Tim. Happily, for another few weeks at least, both are on board with it all. I’m in such despair over the state of the nation and the weakness at the top that I just had to do something productive to feel better. It helps immensely. I still have little to no faith in top of our ticket but I’ll keep plugging away to try to make the middle to lower Dem officials do the right thing.

Done. For what it’s worth, I even called the White House.

Tim! I’ve missed you. It’s about time someone reminded folks here that calling their congresscritter and senator is more effective that bellyaching about optics. I am calling too!

um, has anyone actually read that CBO letter?
from page 2:
make whatever arguments you want, but IMO making an argument for this legislation based on deficit reduction is like handing the Rs a can of gasoline and a match.

@geg6:
its not the top of the ticket that first wavered on the tax cuts. It’s the Senate. And last I checked the top of the ticket has been pushing DREAM, DADT and the rest nonstop on my facebook page and e-mail for months.

I read advice from someone in the know that it is best to fax a letter – a professional one, than it is to e-mail or call. So if anyone is capable of faxing a letter, for free of course. I wish I still had the post from the commenter because it was excellent advice on how to get through to your reps in Congress.

@Suck It Up!:
Let’s just say that my experience does not match yours and we’ll just agree to disagree. I’m quite active in the party here locally and I know what we have experienced. YMMV.

I intend to spend the next 6 years harassing Senator “I’m a moderate” Kirk’s staff over and over asking why he’s voting in lockstep with the civil war party. It helps my blood pressure even if it doesn’t help change his vote.
