Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Books are my comfort food!

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

This really is a full service blog.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

All hail the time of the bunny!

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

I repeat: Is the NFL targeting Harrison unfairly?

Oh, and I love the Packers’ throwback uniforms.

Jackass. 21-7, Vikes. Keep Tarvaris in.

    @You Don’t Say: No.

Amended as I wait for the video to load: My guess is it’s the Rasheed Wallace rule. Video: The hit itself did not deserve that fine.

ETA: Antoine Winfield interception, run to the five. Yum. Yum. He’s yummy.

Since when did the Baltimore Orioles start playing football?

(I know, I know — but you would’ve fallen in love with those late-60s, early 70s teams also!)

Love my stillers, but I don’t see this being a good week for them. Ray Lewis or someone will stomp on Ben’s foot at the first available opportunity, and he’ll be out – and that will be the game (assuming stillers were playing well in the first place).

I see my Bears are kicking some ass. Cant believe Jay Cantler is responsible for anything other than picks and arrogant smug mugs on the pine. I’ll take the dubs regardless.

Not entirely OT as these commercials are running during NFL games: Is Michael Jordan so surrounded by sycophants and bootlicks that no one, not even his sponsors, has the nerve to tell him that his nasty little Hitler mustache is 1) unbecoming and 2) a nasty little Hitler mustache?

Two things in regards to football:

    1. Ducks won, undefeated, probably going to play Auburn for all the marbles. Yay!

The TJ/SR combination is magic. And, AP almost broke free for another TD. (Now I’m just teasing you).

BCS: I am rooting for both teams to lose.

Holy shit. The color commentator just mentioned the taboo–keep Favre out. Granted, it was ‘why risk him’ and ‘see what TJ can do’, but still. Heresy!

ETA: Soromon Wilcots. And, I agree with him. And, I like him. And, I’m glad Harlan has toned it down a bit. They are a good team.

The Auburn Tigers will be going against the team that wears the most godawful looking uniforms in sports history.

Oh dear God. They don’t even have just one. The Ducks have like 20 different uniforms, and each of them a hideously wrong color combo. Those gray unis they wore last night? Even that was the most hideous shade of charcoal gray in human history!

I’ve got Redskins-Giants right now. Thought it might possibly be a good game, but the Giants are up 21-0. Yawn. Cowboys-Colts at 4:00 could be good, depending on which Dallas team shows up, and Steelers-Ravens tonight should definitely be good. And the Monday night game between the Jets and Patriots looks good. On the whole, a good TV weekend for football.

I see the other game at 4:00 today is Raiders-Chargers, and I’m sort of meh on that. I’ve always disliked the Raiders since the days they beat up on Joe Willie Namath and made my mom mad.

I am watching the chickadees vs. the robins in my back yard today. I filled the feeders so they’re both winning. Nuthatches and goldfinches are running interference. Can’t believe there are still so many robins around here with 8″ of (incredibly picturesque new) snow on the ground.

Glad to see that the change of coach has gotten the Vikes fired up. Who’d a’ thunk it?

The stone arch bridge rocks. The robber barons were incredibly awash with money back then. The old flour mills (and mill ruins) on either side of the river at the west end of the bridge are pretty cool too, as is St. Anthony Falls.

She is extremely intelligent except when it comes to being outside. Someone needs to explain to me why Leslie Frazier keeps throwing a beat-up-not-coming-back-next-year-oh-thank-you-Jeebus Favre out there when the team is 4-7? @JPL: What’s up with the Bears is the Lions. They are a far better team than their record shows. They’ve played through injuries, bad calls, bad luck, and a losing mentality and still been competitive. Look at today. They played tough against a good team with a 3rd string quarterback. The crazy loss to the Bills was a killer. It was the main reason for their lousy effort against the Cowboys the following week and was still affecting their play when they went up against the Pats.

Detroit fans have a love/hate relationship with the Lions. No matter how bad they get we still think they will improve. I’m no better than any other fan. They are almost there. They are at a point where they could beat any team, no matter how good, if they can only get over that 4th quarter hump.

With my luck I’d kill the thing getting it out of the basket. I know that putting my sourdough bread in loaf pans made all the difference in the rising. At first I tried french loaves which spread everywhere and didn’t rise. I finally gave up and put them in regular loaf pans and, voila, it was great bread. Sanchez doesn’t have to win the game for the Jets. He just has to not lose it. The Jets’ offensive line will decide the game. If they dominate the Pats’ front seven, then the Jets will have the ball for 40 minutes, will score repeatedly on the ground, and Brady won’t have enough time on the field to work enough magic. The Pats have to win time of possession in order to have any chance to win.

@valdivia: I’ll pass it along, although he’ll interrogate me about how I found out about the place LOL. I’m not sure if he’d venture into Alexandria for dinner or not (he lives in Georgetown) but it can’t hurt to nudge him that way.

Plus if I had to visit 1111 Constitution you might have a dinner date. :) Doubt it will happen, but you never know!

    @Yutsano:

I think Lebanese Taverna is so near as to be thought to be in the District. The metro here is really pretty good and all the places I know are walkable to metro stops. so maybe that will get your good friend out to the burbs!

hey, if you need a dinner date anywhere in dc if you are here, please let me know :)

ETA: off for a little while see you all later!

Belga Cafe, on 8th St. S.E. If you haven’t been there yet, put it on top of your list.

Colts are giving me a heart attack. At least Peyton seems to be back, instead of that guy who’s been impersonating him the last few weeks.

    @Maude: Really? That’s too bad.
@valdivia: Yeah. I have the same memories. Sigh.

@Yutsano: Well, if she stopped in to say all that, she can’t be too pissed at us. And, wheaten, not Wheaton. Duh (that was a note to myself).

This Indy/’Boys game got interesting. We’re in overtime.

OT, but the Washington Nationals have agreed to a seven-year, $126 million contract with Jayson Werth.

I’m confused. I didn’t think Daniel Snyder was involved in the Nationals’ management.

@Stillwater: Cutler had a cannon at Vandy. Maybe the other NCAA team defense wasn’t up to snuff but that dude fit more balls into tight spots than a porn star.

What? Were we having a thread whining about our relationships (or lack thereof) and I missed it?

    Dang.
