Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I really should read my own blog.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

After roe, women are no longer free.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Consistently wrong since 2002

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

There have been requests for an Open Thread to discuss something called ‘football’.

I’ve searched the internets and a fella named Griffith explained it here.

    Lions-Dolphins is…interesting.

ETA: Like last winter, the heavy snow has been missing us in West Michigan. This last storm skirted to the south again.

And with that, it’s off to the shower. Gotta go to the sports bar to watch the Pack with the family.

The sideline ninny at the Green Bay game just told me that the Packers are ready to handle their business. I would advise them to wait until after the game, or at least warm their hands at the salamander first.

I think the Lions just won!

They did! They did win! They were down 10 w/about 6 minutes to go…Got a nice kick (or punt) return that set up a TD….Henne threw a pick that set up a field goal…Then Henne threw a pick 6.

Ugh. Dumbass special teams play in the third quarter cost the Jets the game.

They can still clinch today if Skins beat Jags, and if that doesn’t happen they have Buffalo at home next week.

@Kathy: I loathe Favre. This is one of my complicated things. I want the Vikes to win and Favre to get knocked out of the game. In addition, I do not want the taxpayers of MN to pay for a stadium for the Vikes, which is why I do not root for them to win a Super Bowl or even go to the SB. Sigh. It hurts being in my head.

@Andy K: Your link no work. You fix!

I am told by announcers that the “Fox box” is using holiday lights to show the time outs remaining. Well, I consider that a half-measure in sore need of correction.

Anyone else want to see a little animated elf climb a long ladder to unscrew a Christmas light on the “Fox box” when
a team takes a time out?

Oh, and in my metro area the snow is too late to XC ski but early enough to cancel a party. Blecch.

    @asiangrrlMN:

Sure, there are others in “contention.” But that’s only a formality. Brady is the league’s MVP this year and nothing that happens in the final game will change that.

Especially since he doesn’t even have to play in it.

As for stuckinred, he’s a Bears fan, and Brady castrated the Bears without even breathing hard, so I can sympathize with his pain. I’d be bitter, too, if my team had a sloppy punk like Jay Cutler playing QB.

@ThresherK: I feel your pain my friend. We are getting a warm front that is going to make the snow useless from a ski standpoint and heavier to shovel. Plus, I am still in mourning over the Iggles being postponed, I would have loved to see a blizzard bowl.

@Kathy: Do you know what would make that experience complete? A fan XC skiing to the game. How crowded are the roads?

Actually, the spouse and I were 12 stories up in a downtown Philly hotel during the blizzard which brought the famous Tuck Rule game some 9 years ago. Like every blizzard, when you’re snug and safely away, it looks much more pleasant.

Does Tom Coughlin have the worst challenge-fu ever?! He blew his last one on that fumble a while ago, and so just now he didn’t have one for the interception where the DB (probably) didn’t get his second foot in bounds.

I’m glad Norm’s Chokers won’t be infecting the playoffs this year. Let Philip Rivers use the off season to perfect his league-best petulant whining. I know he has it in him.

The best part of our trip was that we were reserved on the train for our 170 miles back. No driving, no airport wait, not even a cab required to get to the station.
