I assumed that war wounds and the Boardwalk were the product of special effects, but I wouldn’t have guessed that throwing a body out of a boat would need as much work.

It makes me wonder what happened to that big Art Deco hotel they had to draw in. That building looked fantastic.

Isn’t it a set built in NYC?

Nobody outside of New Jersey gives a rat’s ass about New Jersey. Much less so a TeeVee show about New Jersey. Even less so a fake TeeVee show about New Jersey.
This is a much more interesting video about shooting bags of dirt.
Mike Kay (Christine O'Donnell's Co-Witch)
it’s pretty neat how they can just use computer generated graphic overlays and dispense with make-up.
only twenty years ago, when the filmed Terminator II they had to spend hours every day just to reapplying fake blood and cuts, etc. on to the actors.

@Yutsano:
it probably was torn down for a walmart.

Simply… WOW. I’ve really enjoyed B.E., but had absolutely no clue they were doing so much through digital effects. Amazing.

That is freakin’ amazing. I knew a lot of what we see is shot against blue or green screens, but I didn’t realize just how much.
Oh yeah, and FY B.o.B Just because your parents realized they should have aborted you before you were born doesn’t mean you need to take out your bitterness about your empty life on the rest of the world.

@Brick Oven Bill:
This one’s for you, BOB

Watched every ep, but Boardwalk Empire left me a little empty. I hate to say it, but I really do think Buscemi was horribly mis-cast. Was tricky to buy him as both a tough guy, and a leading-man love interest, you know? My favorite character was Half-Face, by far.
I give total credit to Boardwalk Empire for forcing me to explore my new-found appreciation for Canadian Club and 7, though. And all the Canadian blends. Good stuff.

Didn’t Steve Buscemi get stabbed in the neck in a bar fight? That’s gotta get you at least a little bit of tough-guy cred.

Michael Shannon is absolutely superb as lunatic g-man Nelson Van Alden. The only episode that he didn’t steal was when Chalky had his sitdown with the local Klan leader. I don’t think any other scene of the series can beat “Well… I ain’t buildin’ no bookcase.” Michael Kenneth Williams was awesome in The Wire, and I hope he gets a bigger spot in the next season of BE.

They blew up most of those old hotels to make room for the Casinos in the seventies.

Nice. Which song is that ?

This show has an enormous amount of nudity, which I find deeply satisfying.

The song in the vid, and the them song from the show, is ‘Straight Up and Down’ by the Brian Jonestown Massacre. It’s maybe the fifth or sixth best song on the Tepid Peppermint Wonderland retrospective, a double CD set that is well worth picking up.
And now that Anton Newcombe has settled down and doesn’t spend an hour of every show ranting at the crowd, they’ve become a tremendous live act. When I saw them earlier this year, it was two hours of straight music, and no shenanigans from Anton. Plus, they had original members Matt Hollywood and Joel Gion in tow.
Other than the retrospective, their best albums are Give it Back and Strung Out In Heaven. I also suggest picking up a copy of the documentary “Dig”, which covers both the BJM and the Dandy Warhols.

This show made me finally realize that in general, I do not care much about which side wins a gang turf war, even if one of the sides is made up of main characters and the other is not.

@handy: That was actually quite badass. Thanks for the link.

Steve Buscemi is ex FDNY, I think. Also, was down in the pit everyday after 9/11. Tough enough in my book.

Awesome show, awesome link.
And MKWilliams is supposed to have a much bigger role next season.
