Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

The revolution will be supervised.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

Second rate reporter says what?

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Republicans in disarray!

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

The Things That Upset Them

This post is in: Assholes, Fucked-up-edness, I Read These Morons So You Don't Have To

FacebookTweetEmail

The poo-flinging monkeys are apparently all enraged because Obama noted both the Christian dead and wounded and the Muslim wounded in suicide attacks in Egypt:

Here is the offending statement:

I strongly condemn the separate and outrageous terrorist bombing attacks in Egypt and Nigeria. The attack on a church in Alexandria, Egypt caused 21 reported deaths and dozens of injured from both the Christian and Muslim communities. The perpetrators of this attack were clearly targeting Christian worshipers, and have no respect for human life and dignity. They must be brought to justice for this barbaric and heinous act. We are continuing to gather information regarding this terrible event, and are prepared to offer any necessary assistance to the Government of Egypt in responding to it.

Apparently what has the shitheads upset is that all 21 dead were Christian, so therefore the wounded Muslims don’t count.

I seriously wish I was kidding. Jesus would be proud, no doubt.

So, um, we shouldn’t even try to get Muslims in Egypt on our side by pointing out that they are being attacked in the name of their own religion?

I know the right wing just luuurves to pit Christians against Muslims in their New Crusades, but it’s probably a better strategic idea to get the whole population of Egypt lined up against Islamic terrorists and not just the Christian minority, don’t you think?

It’s like miscounting Civil War dead – “50,000 dead at Gettysburg” (when it was about 6,000 dead and the remainder wounded and missing). Casualties only count if people die.

And, apparently, if people are Christians. I’m in the part of Howard Zinn’s “People’s History of the U.S.” discussing our glorious conquest of the Philippines and the way that brown people’s deaths were mostly (but not entirely) ignored in that war of “civilization” which the President at that time thought he’d gotten instructions from God to undertake.

The thing is, President McKinley wasn’t paying any attention to the message the God he supposedly followed laid down (along with these morans today), shit about loving your neighbors and your enemies and turning the other cheek and sitting down to eat with and accepting people who are different. Nope – “different” people just don’t count.

Coptic Christians have been kicked to the curb for years in Egypt and have long been rendered relatively powerless. This sick act reeks of the kind of ethnic cleansing that you have been seeing in the Muslim world for a while now, actions not only against Christians, but also against minority Muslim sects.

Obama is demonstrating admirable statesman-like clarity of vision here. Those who mindlessly seek to attack him on this are pathetic, small minded fools.

When considering the alphatude of a Muslim, one must view the dimensions of his zebibah. In order to expand our collective understanding of these wonderous cultures, the following two photographs are presented:

The omega Muslim is on the right in this photo, the beta Muslim on the left. The one on the right appears to rarely bang him head against the ground while praying. Perhaps he will become an apostate like Barry.

Now…Behold the Alpha Muslim, characterized by an apparently cracked cranium.

I agree though. Had Obama said nothing…being that no Americans were involved it is not a concern for his office…there would be talk of a cover up. Also, they would complain that he wasn’t making all the muslims apologize.

He should just say “muslim terrorists suck” and leave it at that.

Not if your goal is to foment a war between Christianity and Islam, which certainly seems like the goal of the Christian extremists. You just have to realize that the real argument isn’t between the Christians and the Muslims. It’s between the moderates who want peace and the extremists who want a clash of civilizations. In that fight, Christian zealots are on bin Laden’s side.

It’s so nuts, because Bush (as President) used to do the same thing. It’s clearly the policy and practice of the United States to make a clear and constant rhetorical distinction between terrorists and Muslims. Over and over and over…it’s deliberate, as you know. They’re saying something when they do that.

I mean, they may not buy it, but it is the official position, consistent, Clinton, Bush, Obama.

I think they’re poor listeners, in addition to the reading comprehension problems. They still don’t get what that might be about, or why the US President might phrase it that way, which is amazing, after all this time.

Why do you think they have been softening up the mushy synapses of mall shoppers and soccer moms, all these last two years with non stop absurd, yet once said, forever heard images and rhetoric about teh maybe Muslim terrorist sympathizer presnit Obama?

So when shit like this happens and American Christians can make a connection to even foreign victims in a strange land. They give secret seminars on this in the basement of The Heritage Foundation. The beam of fear begins there, or in places like it, and makes the step by step journey to Fox News, then the signal is picked up by FN competitors, hoping to pry away a few of the dimwitted wingnuts and others huddled around the teevee sets waiting to hear familiar lies.

The problem isn’t that they’re bad listeners, it’s that they don’t like what they’re hearing. The Christianists want a holy war just as much as the jihadis do. The Christianists were willing to listen to Bush say the same kinds of things because he sent out enough dog whistles to convince them he was really anti-Muslim. With Obama, though, they’re afraid they’ve gotten a peacenik who doesn’t want a clash of civilizations.

Islam is not a race Yutsano, it is a Belief System, similar to Progressivism or Teabaggerism. So stop with the names.

One assesses the Muslim by the size of his Zebibah, an observable physical measurement of his religious zeal. One measures a male Progressive, perhaps best by the negative angle created when he sits with his legs crossed. A female Progressive can be measured by either odor, or perhaps some voice-shrillness metric.

We are all kind of the same, all kind of different. It is all good.

Degree of hate aimed at the Muslim community in the last two years = insane and friggin scary. The bomber is a clear misunderstander of Islam and, as he banged his head harder and harder against the concrete quoting scripture, to increase his sex appeal, he must have become confused, just ask Mohammed Tahtawi, an Islamic spokesperson. Mohammed ‘T’ teaches us:

“This is a criminal act that can never be justified (in) any religion. Islam specifically prohibits any attacks on religious places. As a matter of fact, it tasks Muslims with protecting religious places of worship for Muslims and non-Muslims.”

This is because the Qur’an is a living document. It is hard to understand it for the zebibahed and Ezra Klein, as it is over, like, 100 years old. It is really frickin’ confusing:

3:151 We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Their habitation is the Fire.
4:14 Those who disobey Allah and his messenger will be burnt with fire and suffer a painful doom.
4:48 Those who ascribe a partner to Allah (like Christians do with Jesus and the Holy Spirit) will not be forgiven. They have “invented a tremendous sin.”
4:76 Believers fight for Allah; disbelievers fight for the devil. So fight the minions of the devil.

You are a fucking dipshit. What you are talking about is a religious fad in Egypt. The Egyptians actually do consider themselves a race, but rather than making this more complicated, we will make it simple.

Quit being a stupid, mean prick. I don’t think you are smart enough to understand concepts like racism or sectarian bigotry or the fact that you are not qualified to have opinions about very much at all in the world. I am going to believe that as benighted as you are, there is probably some part of you that knows when you are being a prick and start listening to it.

@Brick Oven Bill: Oh, fun, let’s quote some more Koran!

31:17-18 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

13: 13-15 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you; Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

137:9 Happy is the one who takes your babies and smashes them against the rocks.

13:6-10 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 7Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; 8Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die.

Oh, dude, my bad. That’s the Bible.

Anything that Obama said about this attack, or saying nothing at all, would provoke the same reaction from the Right; all terrorism is Obama’s fault while he’s in the White House. And for an arbitrary period TBD after he leaves.
And this is good for Republicans. What a sorry-ass state that party is in when terror and death look like political opportunities.

Why are you staring at liberal mens’ crotches so much? Have you really done this often enough that you can quantify the results of your observations and compare liberals’ penises with conservatives’ penises? Does this seem like something a heterosexual male would do, to you?

No, Memorandum is an aggregator site that summarizes buzz in the blogosphere. You can think of it as a sort of conventional stupidity site. It’s obviously a better site for finding what the wingnuts (including Gateway Pundit) are thinking than DFHs because its algorithms react strongly to many people saying the same thing, like the right wing noise machine.

Just got back from visiting wingnut relatives, where in addition to the birther bullshit that I have learned to tune out, their latest vehement outrage du jour is that Obama said in a speech that the motto of the USA was ‘E Pluribus Unum’, while they insist it is ‘In God We Trust’, and this proves that Obama is a sekrit Mooslim who hates Christianity.

I felt like they were repeating bull at the time but wasn’t sure; lo and behold, E Pluribus Unum *is* the motto of the USA. You can’t shoot down the lies faster than they can produce them.

    From the CNN story:

“Four of them were police officers posted outside the church to protect the Christians worshipping inside, the interior ministry said.”

So, not only were they Muslims, but they were Muslim police officers.

The Coptics are caught in a bind because the Islamists hate them (this whole thing started over a woman converting to Islam to get out of a marriage and the Christians refusing to let her) and their only protection is the state. But Mubarak and the police/security services that would protect them are the most hated forces in the whole country. The people they need to rely on for protection are the same people that you’d like to distance yourself from.
While we’re on Muslim hating as a topic, food for thought: imagine how vastly different the opinions would have been about the military interventions in Bosnia and Kosovo post 9/11, there’s no way they happen.

Wasn’t “In God We Trust” a slogan printed on our money in the 1930s by Franklin Roosevelt the Great Unamerican Socialist?

And yes, they probably were repeating bull; that’s what the whole echo chamber concept means. Striking how so many people who don’t know crap about politics still insist on talking about it all the time. I mean, most people don’t know crap about the physics of outer space either, but that’s why most people don’t go talking about it all the time.

Oh, the subject comes up on wingnut websites every now and then. The consensus is that Clinton was a Muslim-loving bastard, that the Serbians were just misunderstood and were just trying to protect themselves and avenge themselves for the eebil that Muslims did to them in the past, and we should have let them do it.

I don’t have the same level of sympathy for the muslims who were injured as I do for the Christians who were injured. It was muslims that carried out the bombing, and their target was Christians. The fact that they ended up injuring some of their own is unfortunate for them, but to feel sorry for the muslims would be like feeling sorry for the Nazis if Hitler bombed France and and some Nazi infantrymen were injured in the blast.

The enemy we are fighting is a muslim one, so I have no sympathy when they inadvertently injure their own.

And don’t give me this “islam is a religion of peace.” Muslims around the world predominately hate the west. Some engage in violence, others simply sit by and support the violence. A very small percentage actually are peaceful, but this group is not properly following the Koran. If you are a good muslim and follow the Koran, the you are in favor of violence against the infidels and the extermination of the jews and Israel.

    Wake up, America!
