From our Food Goddess, TaMara:
I’m travelling, again, but I’m leaving you with my favorite Key Lime Pie recipe, courtesy of my brother and sister-in-law in Florida. I love Key Lime Pie and this one is so easy and fool-proof. This entire menu has a bit of a tropical feel to it, which I think is perfect for a cold winter’s day. I’ll be on the beach, so whatever. I hear I’ll be coming home to snow and bitter cold, lucky me. I await spring and seed catalogs. Wherever you are this weekend, I hope you’ve got something fun planned. If I was home I’d have a big pot of soup or stew on and be curled up reading a good book. What do you like to cook when the weather is cold and dreary?

Soup — split pea with some kind of smoked meat. Or chicken soup, from a carcass of a roast, with fresh veggies and homemade dumplings. Or anything at all prepared in the oven — casseroles, roasts, dumb ol’ Tater Tots, you name it.

The mojo sauce really requires a whole cup of olive oil?
I like olive oil as much as the next girl but … yeesh.

Bean soup with pork hocks, chili and most of all chicken soup that I will be definitely be cooking tomorrow. In the days of children at home the request was for pasta patan – potato substituted for the beans or manaste (sp?).
Great menu today. Key Lime anything is my favorite.

That looks much better than the Sandra Lee Kwanzaa cake we were discussing this morning.
I am partial to stews and braised things this time of year.

Soups or stews rock when it is even a bit chilly. My personal favorite is a beef stew cooked with a bottle of Guinness (in the stew, tho you can drink along if you want). So yummy.

I either got spam filtered or forgot how to post a comment… but to answer the question everyone else is: this is a great time of year for cassoulet.
Tonight, however, I making chicken basquiase for Dorie Greenspan’s new book (got it for Christmas)… finally almost done… just waiting for the rice to finish. I really need to get better as estimating how long recipes are going to take me.

The key lime pie recipe that I’ve used was a 3 step process and took an entire day to make. I think I’ll have to copy this one. No key lime pie tastes so good that it’s worth taking all day to make.

In accordance with my heritage, I made bigos today.
Smacznego!

Quick aside: you can buy key lime juice in a bottle. It’s available in most grocery stores in the same section as the lemon juice.
