I know the Fox crew are morons, but what was with the, ” was the ball over the plane before his knee was down?” What difference does it make? The defender didn’t knock him down, he didn’t slide, and defense didn’t make contact until he was in the end zone. He could have fucking rolled in and it still would have counted.
@Laura W.: I don’t think I’m going to. For 1. I think the odds are good it will be confiscated. 2. I think it will piss off my friend’s brother, and thereby directly impacting my chances for any future tickets. 3. It’s really nice! Too nice. 4. Somehow I’ll object to the fascist who’s confiscating the poster and say something snarky then get kicked out and cost the Riley’s their season tickets and then they’ll be out to kill me the rest of my life.
But still… it would be so hilarious! FEED!!!! It’s a good defense poster.
I’m with you there – I can’t stand Shannon Sharpe. His brother was/is a decent commenter. Shannon Sharpe gets tongue-tied all the time and misstates things. On top of that, I hate it when any speaker or actor has horrible diction. Some of the other CBS folks are all right, but the Fox crew does have better chemistry and balance.
True on McCarthy and playing conservative – although I’m assuming you wrote that before the lead extended to three touchdowns. He should go for high percentage plays, chew out that clock… which doesn’t discount some long balls occasionally.
@Gravenstone: I like how in the Fox Superbowl promo advertising an Obama interview with O’Reilly (WTF), Fox is forced to be respectful towards the President. Somehow, football fans are a more discerning bunch than those who watch a news station 24/7.
Peregrine Falcons have been recorded diving at speeds of 200 miles per hour (320 km/h), making them the fastest-moving fastest-falling creatures on Earth.
Grant, Finley, Brad Jones, Brandon Chillar, Brady Poppinga, Michael Neal, Atari Bigby, Anthony Smith, Derrick Martin, Morgan Burnett, Mark Tauscher, Nick Barnett…Johnny Jolly suspended…Missing Pickett and Jenkins for games at a time…And all the guys who have stepped it up when called upon has been amazing.
Southerners and real winter conditions are a bad mix. After my cousins moved to Knoxville back in the ’70s, they were amazed how an inch of snow could close the schools.

@Omnes Omnibus: That’s been my rule ever since watching the Baltimore Orioles in 1979. They had *so* many ninth-inning comebacks that year. Anyone who left the games early missed a hell of a show.
Plus, upper deck seats were $1.50 with a student ID and you could bring in your own beer. And in Section 36 you could get a contact high. Why the hell not stay to the end of the game?
Yeah, the injury list really is astounding, isn’t it? As a fan, I’m really grateful to have Rodgers, but also Ted Thompson and all the behind-the-scenes folks who put together a team of such depth. And 6 games lost by a total of 20 points. If they lose, they lose, but they’ll fight.
It would be the easier game. The weather in Chicago would neutralize our offense- if it’s typical January weather in Chicago. Temps in the 30s or above, we might do to them what we just did to Atlanta.
I would still like us to take a rubber match over dere by Soldiers Field. That would be sweet.
Adios for now. Packers post-game show here. Omnes, I’m counting on you to listen to it for me. I have to go grocery shopping.
@Yutsano: Actually, I don’t see that as a problem, as long as Carroll brings in a young QB to learn.
I don’t think Whitehurst is anything more than a backup. I don’t see anyone other than, say, Leinart as a suitable long term solution. If the QB of the future is a draft pick, keep Hassellback around for two years, allow the young ‘un to break in gradually…(and, really, if matt CAN perform tomorrow, that means he’s still acceptable at the position…)
Yeah, this a scrappier team than the one in the mid-to-late ’90s. And this team seems to play more as a team than that team did then. Kinda reminds me of the ’87 Detroit Tigers when compared to the ’84 team- for me anyway. The ’84 team had a lot more talent than the ’87 team, or so it seemed, but the ’87 team clawed it out through injuries, and a 5-game hole in the last week of the season.
Speaking of which, the Picasso exhibit I went to the other was decent. I understand the difficulties in putting together a show of his work. He painted for a hojillion years and the owners of most of his work won’t lend.
Even so, it seemed as if they should have just forgotten the blue and rose periods rather than have the small representation they had. Had they focused on Dora years and just expanded it I would have been happier.
As it was, my main memory was this cute hipster chick in black tights and a grey skirt and a brown cardigan. She smiled at me and then I noticed she was wearing wellies. And they just looked so out of place. And it’s not like I was going to talk to her anyway, just one of those pleasant “I look she look I smile she smiles” things, but gaddamn, wellies with a miniskirt?

@MikeJ: Yup. Passes were a breeze so no big issue. Although I love how I tell my parents I’m coming and they give away the guest bedroom to someone else. And they bitched about me having a hotel room for Christmas. I should just fire them all.
@gwangung: Whitehurst has flashes of brilliance syndrome. He’ll be amazing then he’ll be teh suck but there really isn’t much consistency. Which is a shame because he’s really not that bad of a QB. And there are worse ways to make a living than holding a clipboard for a few million dollars a year. I am all about bringing in a seasoned vet over drafting for a QB. I’d rather have one shovel-ready over needing seasoning while Matty plays for a couple more years and bangs himself up even further.
I drove my brother back to his house (where I’m staying) and we talked about the Bears game. He thinks they’re quite beatable. I kind of agree. But I put nothing past the Seahacks.

@Andy K: I am not getting ahead of myself.
JPL
@JPL: thought it was you earlier on a pajama media post ..anyway here’s the latest link ..but since this is a football thread..go falcons..

@Andy K: At halftime, damn dog.
Scarshapedstar
Failcons’ D is about as tough as a few boiled chickens.
stuckinred
@Omnes Omnibus: You talking to yourself there Captain?
martha
The Packers can never be too many TDs ahead. Yes, I’ve watched too many games in my life.
asiangrrlMN
@JPL: No. It’s not me. I don’t visit the rightwinger sites too often. I get way too pissed off. But, now I’m curious at the other me. Can you point out where “I” am commenting in a thread? And, I see a JL. Is that you?
Andy K
@stuckinred:
Halftime, pre-game, post-game, in-game, picture-in-picture… agarrrrrrrhhh….
Nice drive. 12 plays, 6:32 off the clock, build the lead….And the first play was a sack that lost us ten yards.
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: Tramon Williams appears to be able to do it.
Also too: Nice run, Aaron.
Gravenstone
I know the Fox crew are morons, but what was with the, ” was the ball over the plane before his knee was down?” What difference does it make? The defender didn’t knock him down, he didn’t slide, and defense didn’t make contact until he was in the end zone. He could have fucking rolled in and it still would have counted.

I liked the phrasing after Rodgers TD run: “He can do it with his arm, with his legs, or with his mind.”
Dude is fucking telekinetic.

@efgoldman: It’s not learning, their “d-backfield” has injuries that “A Rodge” will continue to exploit.

Taking the wife here tomorrow.

@Loneoak:
The sister LOLed over that one.

Loneoak
@Andy K:
Always happy to bring a chuckle to a Grand Rapidian.
Batocchio
@asiangrrlMN:
@Omnes Omnibus:
True on McCarthy and playing conservative – although I’m assuming you wrote that before the lead extended to three touchdowns. He should go for high percentage plays, chew out that clock… which doesn’t discount some long balls occasionally.
Andy K
Kinda surprised that was overturned. I thought White made a “football move” then fumbled…I’ll take it, though.
Redshirt
@Gravenstone: I like how in the Fox Superbowl promo advertising an Obama interview with O’Reilly (WTF), Fox is forced to be respectful towards the President. Somehow, football fans are a more discerning bunch than those who watch a news station 24/7.
stuckinred
@Andy K: This dude they are wired into doesn’t get em wrong.
stuckinred
@Redshirt: Yea, that’s why that have than fucking asshole Hank Jr all over MNF!
Svensker
@asiangrrlMN:
Really? I love me so Shannon. He’s funny as hell (when I can understand what he’s saying).
asiangrrlMN
@Redshirt: Well, damn it. I was excited to see Tunchie at the game. Do you have a BJ t-shirt?
@Batocchio: Agreed on Sterling.
@Svensker: I find him aggravating. I prefer my commentary low-keyed.
ETA: Yeah, bay-beeeee! How you doin’, OO?
stuckinred
If it was a fight they’d stop it.
Omnes Omnibus
@Batocchio: McCarthy hasn’t gone conservative yet. I am loving this.
Andy K
@Batocchio:
Compared to Mike “Three-Runs-And-Out-On-the-First-Possession-of-the-Second-Half-When-Playing-With-the-Lead” Holmgren, McCarthy is Bakunin.

Pack looks good. Too good…
Batocchio
Okay, now even I’m feeling a bit bad for the Falcons.
Not too much, but…

@stuckinred:
No kidding. This got ugly quick.
Batocchio
@Andy K:
Haha. That’s a keeper.
mr. whipple
Bleh. Was hoping for a good game. Pack looks too awesome :)
Yutsano
@stuckinred:
Let us never speak of this again. Yes I’m still bitter about that. It’s the Scorpio in me.
@asiangrrlMN: Arrived safely, and of course the first thing my mom asks me is, “Where’s the cat?” Yeah I feel wuved right about now.
Oh and my uncle got a new German shepherd seeing eye dog. ME. WANT!!
Gravenstone
I was hoping the Pack would at least put in a respectable showing. This’ll do nicely (other than that blown KO return).
scarshapedstar
The Falcons are certainly living up to their namesake.
Andy K
@Batocchio:
Do you know how many years its been that I’ve tried to get a response like that from you? A lot of years.
:)

Michael D is not having fun at the game..imo

@JPL: This will help traffic.
Loneoak
I wonder if the Packers actually set an NFL record for being the immediate cause of two midseason coach firings this season.
Omnes Omnibus
@Loneoak: They also unleashed Vick on the league.
Loneoak
@Omnes Omnibus:
And they dominated the Punt, Pass, and Kick championship.
Omnes Omnibus
@Loneoak: Imagine what it would have been if Grant and Finley had been healthy all season.
Mark S.
Here begins the comeback . . .
Andy K
@Omnes Omnibus:
Loneoak
@Mark S.:
“And instead he begins this drive on the ground …”
MoeLarryAndJesus
If Raji is hurt that’s a big loss for the Packers.
Loneoak
@Andy K:
And the 6 games they lost were by 20 points total.
Omnes Omnibus
@Andy K: Yep, but Grant and Finley are the two where the replacements have not been nearly as good.
Andy K
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
Yeah, no kidding. Can’t think of a 3-4 NT who’s had a better season this year.
asiangrrlMN
That’s my boy, Clay Matthews! Woo-woot!
Andy K
@Omnes Omnibus:
True that.
Barnett’s going to be gone. We’ll resign Bishop. I’d be shocked if I’m wrong on this.
Omnes Omnibus
@Andy K: Hawk and Bishop stay. Barnett is traded.
Andy K
So how bad are the roads in Atlanta on a Saturday night that the fans would be leaving so early?
Omnes Omnibus
I think that was Rodgers last play tonight.
Andy K
@Omnes Omnibus:
I thought Barnett was a free agent at the end of the year.
Omnes Omnibus
@Andy K: I think you are correct. No trade then.
stuckinred
@Andy K: The main roads are fine but there is a great deal of ice on side streets and in the country.
Andy K
It was a game until Tramon’s pick-six. There was your dagger. The Falcons bled out in the locker room at halftime.
asiangrrlMN
This game is over, right?
@Omnes Omnibus: I hear you. But I bet your stomach doesn’t hurt as much any more.
Andy K
@stuckinred:
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.
Southerners and real winter conditions are a bad mix. After my cousins moved to Knoxville back in the ’70s, they were amazed how an inch of snow could close the schools.
Omnes Omnibus
@asiangrrlMN: Yes and no.
Three-nineteen
@Andy K: You forgot Al Harris.
Another fumble recovery? I hope the Packers aren’t wasting all their magic on this half. There’s an NFC Championship game to be played.
MoeLarryAndJesus
Falcons and Steelers were both down by 14 at halftime. But the Steelers are better than the Falcons and the Packers are better than the Ravens.
So it goes. And having the better QB is always a big factor.
Evolved Deep Southerner
@Evolved Deep Southerner: I think I mentioned in another thread about how I had pulled for the Falcons because I felt sorry for them. Now I just feel sorry for them, period. Atlanta can’t have NOTHIN’ nice.
martha
@Omnes Omnibus: You beat me to it! It’s never over with the Packers until the clock counts down to zero. never.
Andy K
@asiangrrlMN:
Yes. The nephew (11) is getting tired, and he’s got Lacrosse game at noon tomorrow.
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: YES!! No. Maybe?
@Omnes Omnibus: Yeah. There will be much wailing around my household tomorrow after the Seachickens get whomped.
Omnes Omnibus
@martha: Winning or losing… I always watch until the end.
Mark S.
Rodgers: 31-36, 366 yards and 3 TDs. Those are some sick numbers.
Andy K
@martha:
For the third time today I give you this:
Junior Murvin Cool Out Son
This Packers defense might bend, but it doesn’t break. Leads are safe.
Favorite this and listen to it five times a day for the rest of the week.
Omnes Omnibus
@Yutsano: I want Seattle to win.
scarshapedstar
Congratulations on your second straight home loss, Failcoons.
Oh, and…
WHO DAT!!!
martha
@Omnes Omnibus: You’re a better fan than I am. My husband, on the other hand, is with you…
So, Bears or Seahawks? We were just debating this. Which do you want?
ETA: just saw your answer to Yutsano…we think we agree.
Yutsano
@Omnes Omnibus: I do and I don’t. I really am of two minds on this, but honestly I’d just as soon the season be over and we can work on finding a replacement for Matty. The longer he goes the more I’m afraid he’s going to get Old Man Yells At Football syndrome.
martha
@Andy K: Love it and thanks for the great advice…
frosty
@Yutsano: German Shepherds Woo-hoo!! We had three, two of them from the Monks of New Skete. Great, loyal dogs.
MikeJ
@Yutsano: You posting from over the mountains tonight?
Omnes Omnibus
I shall now sit over here and be happy.
frosty
@Omnes Omnibus: That’s been my rule ever since watching the Baltimore Orioles in 1979. They had *so* many ninth-inning comebacks that year. Anyone who left the games early missed a hell of a show.
Plus, upper deck seats were $1.50 with a student ID and you could bring in your own beer. And in Section 36 you could get a contact high. Why the hell not stay to the end of the game?
Batocchio
@Andy K:
Loneoak
@Andy K:
Time to hit the homegrown.
Batocchio
@Loneoak:
I had a joke about that earlier in the season… that might be a trivia question in future years.
Andy K
@Omnes Omnibus:
I have to go grocery shopping.
gwangung
@Yutsano: Actually, I don’t see that as a problem, as long as Carroll brings in a young QB to learn.
I don’t think Whitehurst is anything more than a backup. I don’t see anyone other than, say, Leinart as a suitable long term solution. If the QB of the future is a draft pick, keep Hassellback around for two years, allow the young ‘un to break in gradually…(and, really, if matt CAN perform tomorrow, that means he’s still acceptable at the position…)
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: You made it! Game ovah. I’m two for two!
@Omnes Omnibus: Heh. You get to rest for another week.
Andy K
@Batocchio:
MikeJ
@Loneoak: Way, way ahead of you.
Yutsano
Michael D.
Well, I just got home. That was the worst $350 I’ve ever spent. Fucking Falcons.
Andy K
@Michael D.:
It was a game for a while there. Williams second interception seemed to rip the Falcons heart out, though.
Michael D.
@Andy K: It’s the only time I’ve ever paid to go to a game. SUCKED. It was a game in the first quarter. That’s it. We left halfway through the 3rd.
Svensker
@MikeJ:
But what season were her Manolos?
Captain C
@Loneoak: Yes.
