I’ll spend part of it trying to sell my book, and the rest getting caught up enough that going to the AWP convention in DC this week won’t fuck me over for the rest of the semester. Oh, and maybe sleep a little. Who am I kidding?

Oh, and if there are any other south Floridians in the group, my partner Amy is part of a Sound Art show at 18 Rabbit Gallery in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow night. I’ve seen some of the installations already–they’re pretty impressive.

Daughter 1’s wedding is 11 weeks away and tomorrow is a trip to the seamstress with Daughter 2 for alterations of the mother of the bride dress and the maid of honor dress. It’s hard to imagine that there won’t be snow on the ground here until July but hoping for a nice spring wedding.

Flying to NY tomorrow. Have a ticket for the Duke – St. John’s game at the Garden on Sunday. Then meetings in NY Monday and Tuesday and a meeting in Chicago on Wednesday.
iPod is full of new music, transcoding last Wednesday’s episode of “Friday Night Lights” for iPad, and lots of reading and work to do over the weekend to prep for next week.
Next Friday, the kid is auditioning for the six-week summer program at the Alvin Ailey School. Would be pretty awesome if he gets it, although the idea of dropping off a pretty naive gay 17-year-old in Gomorrah-on-the-Hudson for most of the summer makes me a little queasy. Sure hope they put the emphasis in “in loco parentis” on “parentis,” not “loco.”

Drinking and writing my dissertation. Preferably at the same time.

Going back into to work to finish off fourth quarter and print the last lingering W2s and 1099 for my less organized clients. I hate them all.

Beer makes the words flow… just remember to not submit anything until you proofread it the next day. I must admit I have wrote some really nice prose while drunk, but withy a hellofalotta typose.

Off for an evening with Robert Randolph.

And tomorrow will be just another American Saturday Night.

@Brian S (formerly Incertus): Shameless shill.
(Actually does look interesting, but your provenance here makes me suspect).

Guess what? Crazy works.
What the hell? It’s a Gallup/USA Today poll. But still…

Anybody here live in Manhattan? How screwed are the streets and/or parking as a result of the most recent snow?
Brian S (formerly Incertus)
@kdaug: I have to be shameless. It’s poetry. No one would buy it otherwise. But it’s not a self-published book, if that’s what you’re saying by provenance (and I wouldn’t be ashamed of it if it were). It’s through Louisiana Lit Press, out of Southeastern Louisiana University. Instead of doing a regular royalty contract, they gave me a bunch of author’s copies and the chance to buy more at cost. They’ll be selling it through their website and Amazon eventually, but I got a box straight from the printer as part of the deal, so I’ve been hawking it all over the place. I’ll really be hitting it hard at the convention next week.

Finishing up a meeting in Kansas City tomorrow, BBQ at Jack Stack, then the kind folks at Southwest take me home to sleep in my own bed. And not a moment too soon because the weather in the midwest is supposed to get nasty again.
BruceFromOhio
Its fucking January. What else would it be?

Actually it was 70+ degrees in Topeka today. I sure wasn’t expecting that!

I will be working tomorrow night, then beginning my off-kilter weekend (Sunday-Monday). My main goal is to get my life back to something like normal.
Last weekend I went to Rehoboth Beach, DE, for a long weekend, hoping to escape the bitter weather in Washington. It turned out to be just as cold there, plus–bonus!–no heat in the rental house. The temp inside was in the mid-50s (teens-20s outside), occasionally goosed into the 60s by running the oven continuously at 180° with the door open and burning Duraflame logs and sticks foraged from the yard in the fireplace. Problem turned out to be an empty propane tank. “Sorry, can’t deliver until Monday.”
Came back to D.C. in time for Snowpocalypse ’11. My power went out about 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, just came back on this morning. I toughed it out until late yesterday, then fled to my brother’s house in Arlington to mooch free electricity for my fading Droid. Came home this morning to find power on but cable/Internet farkled. Went to work, got home about an hour ago; cable TV and Internet back on. Thank the FSM!
So tomorrow morning I am going to do a week and a half’s worth of laundry and finish up a copyediting job for a client that I couldn’t get to because my computer was dead the last few days. Then I hope to have a weekend in which nothing, absolutely nothing, happens.
something fabulous
Going to Chicago for the week to visit my dad and some old friends. Hope to see some plays, eat at a few new places since last time… and taking the honorary goddaughter (6) to high tea!
I do not think I have enough sweaters for this.

Apparently, the Egyptian protesters are responding to the government’s internet shutdown by creating one of their own, sort of.

Thinking about hiking at Westmoreland Sanctuary, but blueberry pancakes at the diner may win out. Maybe both.

@Brian S (formerly Incertus):
By provenance, I mean that I generally assume anyone posting here is likely a rangy cur who might scratch poetry in the mud with it’s paw, but it wouldn’t make much sense to anyone else.
You appear to be an exception.
Might just take you up on your offer, and purchase one of your books.
Brian S (formerly Incertus)
@kdaug: Ah. Well I’ll take that as a compliment and thank you for it.
kdaug
@Brian S (formerly Incertus):
You’re welcome.
A good audience is hard to find.

Watch FA Cup – Everton vs. Chelsea – on television (Go Toffees!!)

My weekend (he’ll, my month!) is complete! One of my snarks is a category on BJ!
This after a great day skiing, a nice bottle wine and crawling into bed. I can’t wait to what tomorrow brings.

Leaving for Tampa 1st thing in the morning for a weeklong conference. I plan to spend part of tomorrow riding the TECO trolley around Ybor City and Hyde Park, then back to the hotel to read by the pool. I’m tempted to make a little road trip down to Sarasota to visit the Ringling museum. Haven’t been there in forever.

And it was a vamp on mistermix’s post about bachman’s SOTU rebuttal (Bachmann Tea Party Overdrive) iI wouldn’t have thought it up without him

@burnspbesq: Heh. You went there. I r so proud. Course the fact he’s a DFH is kinda cool too.

Saturday, packing lunches for the stand down.
Sunday, delivering them.

@burnspbesq:
You teach them right from wrong, and how to think for themselves.
The rest is up to them.

@burnspbesq:
I could make a couple of discreet inquiries to get a few eyeballs on the kidlet. Not to mention this is Bnut’s territory. There’s a few other Juicers around those parts as well. I think he’d be more scared going somewhere that he doesn’t know anyone more than anything. But even if none of that comes together, the young’un should go. You never know where these things might just end up.
asiangrrlMN
@Steeplejack: Ah, Steepman. That’s sucky. I hope things improve dramatically (at least for the next couple of weeks).
Damn. I think I have nothing to say. I can’t believe it.
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN:
I shall enshrine this comment upon stone and bards of yore shall indeed sing of this day. Or something. Or I’ll just gently mock you for it.
Hi hon. I think I got part of my soul back.

Yea, Everton played well. Good news is that Tim Cahill will be back from the Asian Cup for the replay at Stamford Bridge.

A good friend of mine and her partner are going to be Double Surrogate Moms, so it’s probably handled. I will still worry. That’s what dads do.

My beloved Forest are away to WHam tomorrow. As much as I’d like to see a deep FA Cup run, I am ok with them going out. Promotion is the main objective.

Working, again. And arguing with a user who thinks that because he works WITH a system, and I work ON said system, that he can argue with my diagnosis of an issue. Makes me feel a little like this guy.
