We haven’t had quite enough good old-fashioned winger craziness in our posts recently. So here’s a double shot.
The first may be for connoisseurs only, an Althouse bit about how she thinks a liberal plant is harassing an Asian-American Congressman state legislator to make Rush look bad. There’s nothing flashy, but Bieber is in the details: Althouse alternately calling the Congressman Yee and Lee (they’re all called “Lee”, right?), the commenter who says of Rush “He’s like the sun”.
The second (via Wonkette — h/t a comment I can’t track down), some Christian guy arguing in favor a benevolent Christian dictatorship.
Enjoy.
Alex S.
Rush is like the sun. There are several small minds in his gravitational pull.
Skepticat
Rush is indeed like the sun–big, hot, and gassy. (And I mean hot in the worst possible way.)
Comrade Mary
That needs to be a tag, please.
I don’t have any wine in the house, but I do have a half-full airline bottle of vodka. Is that enough to fortify me to read Althouse on a work day without losing too many billable hours?
WereBear
@Skepticat: My very thoughts :)
Whenever Rush stops staving off whatever needs both a metric ton of scented candles AND Oxycontin; that will be an epic Nova.

That video is from a site called RealCatholicTV, which has a mailing list. I’ve subscribed, and it is like drinking from a firehose of crazy. Truly batshit insane.

I like his idea that only well-informed voters bona fide interested in the common good should be eligible to vote.
Let’s start by revoking this idiot Michael Voris’s voting privileges.

Um,
“A beneveolent Christian dictator?”
I grew up in Wichita, Kansas. There’s nothing benevolent about fundamentalist Christianity in the United States. Tell it to the Tiller family.
I have no beef with believers. I’m an atheist. You want to believe in your invisible sky daddy, go right ahead. Just leave the rest of us the fuck alone and stop trying to claim the founders misunderstood the message of Christianity as badly as you did, you assholes.

I saw this on Wonkette yesterday and thought about linking to it but blew it off. Thank you for doing so today.

@mistermix:
It’s really strange: Michael Voris spends half the video railing against gays, he doesn’t exactly scream “straight” himself, and it’s uploaded by OnKneesForJesus.
donr
Althouse is worried about the racist death threat not on Yee’s behalf, but Limbaugh’s? Have I got that right?
cmorenc
The speaker in the video is “Michael Voris, STV”. What does the credential “STV” stand for? Of course, you could make up your own snarky explanation (e.g. “Southern Tele Vangelist”), but…what is Mr. Voris actually referring to
Dave
See…I feel the exact opposite way. These self-righteous asshats are the ones who shouldn’t be allowed within shouting distance of a voting booth.

Love the post title! But even that can’t make me click through to the hothouse of crazy that is the boxwine bitch’s blog. No way.
Now the wacked out Christian guy. That sounds like it might be fun.

Are you sure that Christian dictator one isn’t a spoof? I was fooled by Christwire for a while, only to find out it’s parody.
It’s hard to tell with these people sometimes.

That Christian dictatorship guy is hilarious. His view of who is informed and who is not, whose interests are selfish and whose are not … verrrrry curious.
You know, I’m sure we can all agree that the nation would be much, much better off if we had a dictatorship — as long as “I’M” the one doing the dictating! LOL.
gene108
The guys a Roman Catholic hegemonist. Pulled the same thing up on YouTube and instead of Christian he’s talking specifically about a Roman Catholic dictatorship. I think a bit of it’s been dubbed.
He seems to want to make the world Roman Catholic. Seems like a Grade-A nut job.

I’d like to see Frank Gaffney, Mark Levin and John Bolton’s live blogging the Egyptian revolution?
All kidding aside. We are watching the end of the American century(s).

@New Yorker :
Unfortunately, the video in question is but one of a regularly recurring series put out by its narrator (Michael Voris) at RealCatholicTV, “The Vortex”. Unlike Steven Colbert, Michael Voris appears to be a true believer in his monologues trying to bona fide lead people to his religious/social/political perspectives, If there’s any parody, it’s totally unintentional self-parody. Voris is the kind of crank who’s entertainingly loony, up until the point where you realize he has enough like-minded theocratic adherents to be a bona fide danger to the rest of us.

Is this just reflexive now, or do these people really sit down and come to the genuine conclusion that everything that reflects badly on conservatives are actions resulting from liberal plants?
Villago Delenda Est
@PeakVT:
Interesting, the military has come to the same conclusion. That climate change will be the engine behind global instability for the next century or two.
Winston Smith
How is it that conservatives rail against dictatorships abroad while demanding them here?
Their heads must be explosion-proof.
Also, God is not a dictator, according to the Bible. In the Old Testament, He sets up laws, explains (to the prophets) what will happen if they are ignored and then — people ignore them and suffer those consequences. A dictator doesn’t have to keep his promises. You can follow the law in a dictatorship and still end up in jail.
In the New Testament, God is really “hands off,” until the day of Judgement, so you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want although you know what you’re supposed to do.
What you’re supposed to do is to treat everyone — even people who are your enemies — as fellow human beings. If we had a dictator who imposed THAT plan, the conservatives would be pretty miserable.
KG
@Southern Beale: well, see, Plato was actually a Christian and he was really talking about a good Christian benevolent dictator when he wrote the Republic…

@GregB: Well, yes & no. Frank, Mark & Bolton would be fun for shits & giggles but no closer to reality than any Glenn Beck episode. I’ll let the net distill me the Cliff Notes version.
As far as Egypt, Tunisia, Yeman & Lebanon…what can we do really? It’s not like the US (government) commands a lot of respect with the locals so we can’t really appear to be on anyone’s side. I mean, if the US government supports the governments over there & they fall, the US loses. If the US government support those wanting to topple the government and they stay the US loses. I think Hillary struck about the right tone. Platitudes is about as far as we can inject ourselves into their current plight.

“RealCatholicTV?” Oy.
I’m beginning to think that Vatican II was like the election of Obama — it made the conservatives in the Church completely lose their shit, and now we’re seeing the long-term results, with wackos like this, Catholic evolution-deniers, a Hitler Youth pope, etc. All I can do is hope that the conservative fallout from Obama’s election doesn’t fester and persist for this long.
Winston Smith
@ppcli:
Belarus is a Christian dictatorship (for all practical purposes). The government help fund a new lavish RCC church in Minsk recently.
Although gays are still not generally accepted, abortion is totally legal. Also gambling. Minsk is the “Windsor” of Moscow. Russians come to gamble in Minsk because casinos are illegal in Russia. Oh, and the economic model is “market socialism.” President (for life, apparently) Lukashenka un-privatized industries that stumbled under privatization, leaving a relatively effective mix of public and private industry. It’s still developing.
It’s a Christian dictatorship I could live with. I’m moving to Minsk in April.

Wasn’t that “STB”. Apparently means “Sacred Theological Baccalaureate.” According to the entry on his speaker’s bureau website, it was granted by a “theologically sound” RC seminary in New York City. This is the kind of guy who would be surprised to learn that epistemic closure isn’t supposed to be a good thing.
Just another guy who thinks the world is divided into those who agree with him and those that are selfish, deluded and/or evil. Not exactly an attitude confined to the right.
Comrade Kevin
Leland Yee is not a member of Congress. He is a California State Senator. Even Althouse gets it right in her stupid post.

I knew a guy back in high school, really devout, conservative Christian, who believed that we should re-institute slavery. I even got him to explain his reasoning to me, which I don’t remember much of other than it had to have been totally unhinged from reality. But I also didn’t think much of it. The guy was otherwise mild-mannered and friendly, so I just guessed that it was some sort of elaborate joke or something to that effect. Then after I got out of high school and was exposed to more and more religious fundamentalism, I wasn’t really sure.
Yeah, this whole benevolent Christian dictator business reminded me of all that.

Try googling Voris and read a bit. He’s a fairly big-name Catholic um… televangelist? And been doing this for years and years. He is completely serious (and has taken down the video, and made weaselly disavowals of the ‘what I really meant was…’ variety).

The sad humorless feature of all orthodoxies is that they are incapable of imagining their own hypocrisy. Well, of COURSE we need to persecute those other guys … because they are wrong.
Entirely aside from the medieval experience, three centuries of post-Reformation European history consist, on one register, of people objecting bitterly that their liberty of conscience is being violated when the other guys in charge persecute them…then getting to be in charge, and promptly persecuting the former persecutors in exactly the same way. This was not hypocrisy! They — whichever they — were RIGHT, after all, and thus deserved liberty of conscience.
Moral universalism is SO not a feature of pre-modern Christianity.
