I would be remiss if I did not share with you this startling new development, first revealed at Postbourgie. (h/t TNC).

Update — better image substituted for the last one.

Wow, Postbourgie are truly the Pamela Geller’s of the left.
Funny how the two heroes of Egypt right now, Al Jazeera and Mohamad ElBaradei, were both whipping boys (quite literally, for the former) for the Bush administration.
DonkeyKong
The last time I heard of this happening it was Danny Devito and Arnold Schwartzenegger.
Comrade Nikolita
I’m sorry to whine, but am I the only one having issues getting this site to load? I’ve got IE8 on a Toshiba laptop, runs pretty well, so I’m not sure if the issue is on my end or not.
I thought I remembered someone/some people on this site talking about coding/loading issues recently, but I can’t remember if they were fixed or not. I’m sorry if I’ve missed something, I work in Vancouver and pop on here when I can, but I’m not always a regular reader.
Thanks in advance if anyone can provide any help.
In other randomness, I submitted a picture of my cat to the Daily Kitten, based on the other user who was picked for Kitten of the Day (sorry buddy, your name escapes me at the moment).
Southern Beale
Remember that wingnutty South Dakota legislator who was going to pass a bill requiring every citizen over age 21 buy a gun, as a “stunt” to make a ooint about healthcare reform? Whoopsies.
freelancer
Uhhh, I’m nothing if not perplexed. Is this real? Is this snark? Help me out here.
WereBear
Glad my kitten inspired you. Post your pic for a Kitten War?
Carnacki
@freelancer: I confess I’m not certain either. The resemblance is enough to give me pause.
Separated at birth at the least.
suzanne
I’ve been reading Nixonland today, and it’s making me depressed.
So I’ll leave you with some cute.
Linda Featheringill
Loved the history lesson. Life is just freaking funny.
If this is seriously the truth, just who was this dude? Are there pictures or something? Must have been something else.
Alison
@suzanne: OMGZ. Soooo adorable :)

She’s awesome, Suzanne! You must be a very proud Mom.
PurpleGirl
@suzanne: Yes, she is cute. I could almost hear her gurgling, with that smile.

So glad to have an open thread so I can share the news that five “disgruntled readers” are suing Jimmy Carter because they didn’t like his book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid.
AJC item here http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2011/02/02/a-5-million-lawsuit-against-jimmy-carter-for-the-fiction-of-his-middle-east-book/ and longer Washington Post piece here http://voices.washingtonpost.com/political-bookworm/2011/02/president_carter_named_in_5_mi.html.
This is my favorite paragraph (from the WaPo story):

@SiubhanDuinne:
This obviously calls for immediate action on tort reform.

@freelancer: Glad I’m not the only one confuzzled. I think it’s a joke, right?
@suzanne: Mia is a doll-baby! I hope she’s stopped upchucking all over you several times a day.
@SiubhanDuinne: Good lord. Seriously. I mean…words just fail me.
Mnemosyne
@SiubhanDuinne:
Ya know, if you don’t like a book, you can just take it back to the bookstore and get a refund. As long as it’s still sellable, they’ll give you your money back.
I guess that never occurred to these schmucks, though.
suzanne
Awww, thanks, y’all. :) I’m kind of fond of her, myself. I think I’m gonna keep her. She’s snuggly and her head smells good.
@SiubhanDuinne: LMMFAO.
SiubhanDuinne
@suzanne: Mia is adorable!
@WereBear: Tristan is adorable!

Hmm. I have to rethink FTFY. BJTFY just doesn’t have the same panache, however.

West Virginians*, please sign this petition from pro-choice group West Virginia Free.
* Not that I’m encouraging non WVians who wish to sign as being from such places as Charleston, Morgantown, Fairmont, Martinsburg, Charles Town, Harpers Ferry, I’m just sayin’ those are some towns in West Virginia for those interested in such things.

Why did it never occur to me to sue Ayn Rand?

Okay, I followed the link, and I LOLed at this:
I say, bring. it. on. I’ll start preparing my lawsuits against Limbaugh, Coulter, Beck, Hannity and Savage.

@suzanne:
The alternative is CMMFEO.
Poopyman
@Martin: Wow! He got a BJ under the bleachers by the Yankee bull pen! They had to take turns with him, I guess?
asiangrrlMN
@SiubhanDuinne: Because you’re a rational person who realizes that, well, she’s dead.
@SiubhanDuinne: Cutting my motherfucking eyes out?
PurpleGirl
Postbourgie is, I don’t know…, I’m still laughing. I know it’s a joke and it’s so good. But “Tawana’s Crimp-n-Curl” is sooooooooo baaaaaaaaaaad.
suzanne
@SiubhanDuinne:
I think you’d have a case there! I mean, reading Atlas Shrugged would take up six years of your life you’d never get back. Not to mention the punitive damages.
@Carnacki: I can send you a picture of her covered in her 18th vomit of the day that might take care of that for you. ;)
suzanne
@SiubhanDuinne:
You’re so right.
Nellcote
Hey Picture Guy!
Have you checked out Goggle’s evil new time waster?
WereBear
@suzanne: Such cuteness! Nom nom nom. (On the belly.)
asiangrrlMN
@SiubhanDuinne: WTF does CMMFEO mean?
SiubhanDuinne
@asiangrrlMN: Crying, but cutting works too. More painful, though.
SiubhanDuinne
@asiangrrlMN: You almost had it! See my #33. And @suzanne: figured it right out!!
asiangrrlMN
@SiubhanDuinne: Of course I would go for the more painful option!
MikeJ
Hey TL, would you mind resizing the actual pic? It’s the slowest thing on the page and doesn’t need to be 1339×1700 to work as an illustration.
Carnacki
@suzanne: LOL. No, either the picture is too cute or I’m too immune to vomit any more. True story. Couple of weeks ago my 7 year old (I’m a single dad with 3 girls) came in my room and said, “Daddy, I don’t feel so good.”
“What’s wrong, sweetie?”
“My stomach hurts,” she said.
“What do you want me to do? You won’t take any medicine.”
“Daddy stuff.”
So I picked her up to hold her and she said, “I need a bowl.”
“A bowl?” I asked stupidly.
“I need a bowl to vom–,” and before she finished the word she did. It was sort of like the opening scene of the Exorcist parody at the beginning of Scary Movie 2.
Oh well. I’ve dealt with worse.
SiubhanDuinne
@asiangrrlMN: With rusty implements!
JPL
@suzanne: Balloon Juicers have the cutest babies.
Am I the only one who knows who a semite is. Can someone please inform the evangelicals. Since Israeli’s come from Europe do they really qualify?
EDIT…former Pres. Carter knows more about the Middle East than I ever could learn in a lifetime.
Huckabee could learn from him.
schrodinger's cat
@WereBear: Does he get extra noms and nips for being the daily kitten? He is adorable!
asiangrrlMN
@SiubhanDuinne: The rustier, the better.
@Carnacki: Ew, and, EW!
WereBear
He got about a million virtual belly rubs, judging from the comments on his post.
I haz a proud.
suzanne
@Carnacki: Oh man. I have a vomit memory from when my older girl was about three that still makes me want to cry, but I think you win. Poop is grosser than puke.

That Bellini portrait is the spitting image of my husband, give or take 500 years. He could probably even get his hair to do that if he combed it out.
sukabi
@freelancer: think it’s pretty subtle snark… read through a couple of the other posts… if it ain’t snark, it should be.
what a ridiculous world we live in.

@PurpleGirl:
OK, “Tawana’s Crimp&Curl” is what did it for me; but it is the sort of story that should be true, even if it isn’t.

@Comrade Nikolita: one of the ad sites that provide ads to BJ is currently misbehaving (speed.pointroll.com). It never actually loads, just sits there waiting for data and keeping the page from fully loading. Different browsers handle such problems variously. Maybe IE8 is particularly bad with this particular hangup.
This is an on-going problem with ad-supported sites—the ad suppliers simply aren’t up to the job. John probably doesn’t deal directly with the ad servers so he can’t deal with it either.
Tom Levenson
@MikeJ: Done. Been shrunk a lot. (Perhaps too much; I’ve lost a little resolution, but it takes up a lot less bytes.

@Carnacki:
I will take that under advisement, purely and only to satisfy my insatiable hunger for West Virginian place names. If my hand slips and I accidentally sign – oopsies!
Erich Hicks - Buffalo Soldier 9
Keep telling that history:
Read the greatest fictionalized ‘historical novel’, Rescue at Pine Ridge, the first generation of Buffalo Soldiers. The website is: rescueatpineridge.com The greatest story of Black Military History…5 stars Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. Youtube commercial: youtube.com/watch?v=iD66NUKmZPs
Rescue at Pine Ridge is the story of the rescue of the famed 7th Cavalry by the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers. The 7th got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn’t for the 9th Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. This story is about, brutality, compassion, reprisal, bravery, heroism and gallantry.
