Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

Consistently wrong since 2002

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

How stupid are these people?

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Wow, Postbourgie are truly the Pamela Geller’s of the left.

Funny how the two heroes of Egypt right now, Al Jazeera and Mohamad ElBaradei, were both whipping boys (quite literally, for the former) for the Bush administration.

I’m sorry to whine, but am I the only one having issues getting this site to load? I’ve got IE8 on a Toshiba laptop, runs pretty well, so I’m not sure if the issue is on my end or not.

I thought I remembered someone/some people on this site talking about coding/loading issues recently, but I can’t remember if they were fixed or not. I’m sorry if I’ve missed something, I work in Vancouver and pop on here when I can, but I’m not always a regular reader.

Thanks in advance if anyone can provide any help.

In other randomness, I submitted a picture of my cat to the Daily Kitten, based on the other user who was picked for Kitten of the Day (sorry buddy, your name escapes me at the moment).

So glad to have an open thread so I can share the news that five “disgruntled readers” are suing Jimmy Carter because they didn’t like his book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid.

AJC item here http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2011/02/02/a-5-million-lawsuit-against-jimmy-carter-for-the-fiction-of-his-middle-east-book/ and longer Washington Post piece here http://voices.washingtonpost.com/political-bookworm/2011/02/president_carter_named_in_5_mi.html.

This is my favorite paragraph (from the WaPo story):

The five plaintiffs named in the lawsuit are seeking at least $5 million in compensation. The hard cover edition cost $27.

In a press release, one of the attorneys, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner stated: “The lawsuit will expose all the falsehoods and misrepresentations in Carter’s book and prove that his hatred of Israel has led him to commit this fraud on the public. He is entitled to his opinions but deceptions and lies have no place in works of history.”

@suzanne: LOL. No, either the picture is too cute or I’m too immune to vomit any more. True story. Couple of weeks ago my 7 year old (I’m a single dad with 3 girls) came in my room and said, “Daddy, I don’t feel so good.”

    “What’s wrong, sweetie?”

    “My stomach hurts,” she said.

“What do you want me to do? You won’t take any medicine.”

    “Daddy stuff.”

So I picked her up to hold her and she said, “I need a bowl.”

    “A bowl?” I asked stupidly.

“I need a bowl to vom–,” and before she finished the word she did. It was sort of like the opening scene of the Exorcist parody at the beginning of Scary Movie 2.

Oh well. I’ve dealt with worse.

@Comrade Nikolita: one of the ad sites that provide ads to BJ is currently misbehaving (speed.pointroll.com). It never actually loads, just sits there waiting for data and keeping the page from fully loading. Different browsers handle such problems variously. Maybe IE8 is particularly bad with this particular hangup.

This is an on-going problem with ad-supported sites—the ad suppliers simply aren’t up to the job. John probably doesn’t deal directly with the ad servers so he can’t deal with it either.

Erich Hicks - Buffalo Soldier 9

    February 8, 2011 at 12:04 pm

    Keep telling that history:

Read the greatest fictionalized ‘historical novel’, Rescue at Pine Ridge, the first generation of Buffalo Soldiers. The website is: rescueatpineridge.com The greatest story of Black Military History…5 stars Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. Youtube commercial: youtube.com/watch?v=iD66NUKmZPs

Rescue at Pine Ridge is the story of the rescue of the famed 7th Cavalry by the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers. The 7th got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn’t for the 9th Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. This story is about, brutality, compassion, reprisal, bravery, heroism and gallantry.

Visit our Alpha Wolf Production website at: alphawolfprods.com and see our other productions, like Stagecoach Mary, the first Black Woman to deliver mail for the US Postal System in Montana, in the 1890’s, spread the word.

    Peace.
